Getting back to the OP and stockpiling, for a new vaper. I am of the opinion that eliquid sales will be restricted severely for some period of time by the FDA. That may be tight regulation of production and no internet sales of liquids containing nicotine. I also expect that the initial regulation will be challenged in court and be modified at a future date. I'm guessing that it takes a year or more to settle down, (hopefully), so I'm betting about $100 on nicotine concentrate that will cover us for a year and a half.

Practically speaking, stockpiling is a form of a wager, depending on how long you guess nicotine will be unobtainable or very costly through normal channels. It is also based on how long you think it will be before you can vape 0mg liquid. I don't see that happening for me in the foreseeable future.

If you are a new vaper and don't mix liquid, how do you place your bet while keeping it relatively safe and simple? Just get a few bottles of nic concentrate at or just above your current usage level. If you're using 24mg now and buy some 24mg base, assuming flavorings will be 5-15%, you can simply add flavorings to make liquid that's around 21mg. Just buy in the approximate PG/VG ratio you prefer, keeping in mind that most flavorings are PG. Some vendors sell PG/VG base mixes, while at others you buy separate bottles of PG and VG base.

The wager you make is based on your expection of delay and your usage level. A couple minutes with a calculator can help you figure out how much you need a month. We use about 8ml a day, or about 3000ml/year. Using this easy mix method, I would want 6 500ml bottles. For a 24mg vaper, the wager would be about $150 for that one year supply.

Here are a couple of small possible bets, using liquid that is in stock at the time of this post

$30 - two 250ml bottles of 24mg nic, Wizard Labs including shipping - gives you about 16 30ml bottles of base
$55 - two 500ml bottles of 24mg nic, Wizard Labs including shipping - gives you about 33 30ml bottles of base

More experienced juice mixers can place an even smaller bet with much higher nic concentrations, but newer vapers can place a fairly small bet to ease their concerns. It is easier to obtain lower mg nic while also being safer to handle. If it's only a year you are concerned about, freezing it in the plastic bottles you receive should not cause any harm. Easy as can be.

The interesting thing about this bet is that even if you lose, you win.

If there's no regulation, you win nic base. You can have fun and save money with DIY or give it to a vaping friend who does.

If there is regulation, you win a number of comfortable months without agonizing over juice supplies, or just to wean your self off nic without reverting to smoking. I'm happy to bet the equivalent of a carton or two to head off any setback. vaping is important for my health.

Feelin lucky? Place your bet!

So my question, without having to read 44 pages of comments if you don't mind, is there a real threat of a ban or restrictions in the U.S. that a new vaper as myself should know about? And if so, could someone point me in the right direction to get pertinent information?

Yes, there is a real possibility that the ban of Vaping equipment and very severe restrictions on ejuice may be coming soon.

I completely agree with suppliers supporting CASAA, as long as it is not a conflict to CASAA's legal structure. The first word in CASAA is "Consumer" after all.

In your posts, however, you have not advocated that you or vaping consumers in general support CASAA. If only suppliers supported CASAA it would be a trade association instead of a consumer advocacy organization.

I joined CASAA weeks ago, and have financially supported it. Also, by committing to use participating vendors first, I am indeed advocating supporting CASAA, albeit somewhat indirectly.

My post that you are referring to was specifically addressing this particular post:
@Racehorse posted: I'd prefer to "match" what the vendors, manufacturers and mod designers put in. I think that is only fair. I don't think end user vapers should foot all these expenses in addition to having to buy stuff to keep vaping.

I do know quite a lot of vapers on this forum who literally are vaping paycheck-to-paycheck. They have like 1 ml of juice left last day of the pay period and scared they won't make it til next week........

It sparked an idea was all.

If such a program were to be started then we could support CASAA in the course of our normal purchases by supporting vendors who participated. This would give an option for those who are financially challenged to support CASAA by patronizing participating vendors for supplies they HAVE to buy anyway. In this scenario both the consumer and the vendor would be supporting CASAA. In all likelihood the vendor would figure it into their prices so it would really be the consumer footing the bill in the end.

There are plenty of posts throughout this thread advocating supporting CASAA, I didnt feel the need to repeat what has already been said by so many others. What I was trying to do was come up with another (previously unmentioned) avenue of support that could be huge. Same concept as various charities who get the grocery stores to participate, it can yield big donations cumulatively.

There is a big difference between being a pragmatist and being an unempathetic defeatist.

.......................I don't know any unempathetic defeatists. And there is nothing wrong with being pragmatic. There is a big difference though. But i think you're saying that a pragmatist "is" an unempathetic defeatist. I don't think that is the definition of pragmatism.

I'm sure most of the eleven thousand people that have read this thread, but haven't commented, agree with you though.

I think it is a good idea. I'm not sure how financial support from suppliers to CASAA works. Hopefully there is no conflict. Although people being people, vapers tend to have their favorate eliquid suppliers based on their personal "taste" preferences. I'm afraid I would not vape an eliquid I really dislike just because they supported CASAA.

What if every supplier configured their web sites with a regular price and a CASAA price. If you clicked on the CASAA price, a donation would be sent to CASAA from that "consumer". This might be wildly unrealistic, but just a thought in the same vein.

That is NOT what I am saying! You can BE pragmatic and be empathetic towards other's situation and support the right to vape. From your posts, you are none of these.

Very well said.

My wager (1,000 ml @ 100mg/ml) is also tempered by the storage life of the nic. Some say it's indefinite if done properly. For me, this amount will last anywhere from 4 to 7 years, depending whether an how much I step down the nic level. I would probably buy more except for:

1) it's hard to know how long this stuff will reeeeeally last. It's a hundred dollar (or so) wager with each additional liter.
2) if I step down the levels, how can I know now what my final level that satisfies me will be? 5 mg/ ml? 0? And what happens if I wean myself from nicotine and find myself in the situations that used to lead me to smoke--stress, social drinking, etc?

It's murky at best. This is certainly a good example of how government action (interference if you prefer) in the free market-- or even the threat of it--affects decision making and distorts markets. Fortunately we haven't seen prices rise yet, but if the FDA announces a date after which sales will be banned, watch the prices soar!

Let me ask you this. If you do stock up with dozons of litres of e liquids, diy base liquids etc what will you do when it eventually runs out ?. I'm guessing that a lot of people would realise they would have to slowly wean themselves off of nicotine but what if you simply do not want to stop vaping ?. Do you have a long term plan ?.

Join and support CASAA is the best short and long term plan.

Thank you so much 440BB for this practical advice! I placed an order at Wizard labs today for 6 500 ml 24 mg bottles of base! I will now jump into the DIY world and try to learn enough to mix a few flavors I can vape.

I am also going to start donating to CASAA - I was already a member and now will give them money and try to get more involved. VAPE ON!!!

You can make vapable liquid without nic. VG is found on drugstore shelves. Dilute with distilled water to make it thinner and you're good, as long as you've weaned yourself off of nic.

And I just fed the troll.

Shame on you!

VG and PG can be bought locally and at a good price. Vaping 0 nic is possible. For those who need a little nic you can soak tobacco leaves in PG/VG (PG is better, but 50/50 is alright) for a 2-3mg juice. I get mine from leafonly.com. I make my own NETs. Currently I soak them in 12mg unflavored juice to make approx 15mg. but once I add flavors it dilutes back to about 12mg.

Ignore is a good tool for trolls.

Supporting CASAA is good as well. We both joined.

Having a couple years worth of supply allows time to make the next move. Once we have knowledge of what, if anything, our government intends to take from us, we will be able to make a better informed long range plan.
