Sat for about four hours today with artist Damon Blitz at Needle Pushers in the San Fernando Valley.

It went by quick for the most part. I had a long week and a very early day leading up to the appointment. I could have napped through the whole thing. The last twenty or thirty minutes were brutal though.

I think I'm going to have Damon turn this into an ocean themed half sleeve.

Reading this thread is giving me that craving, the one which I'm sure you all know very well, to go under the needle. I have some ideas but they'll have to wait until winter, fall at the earliest. I just can't keep myself out of the surf for two weeks of healing during the summer.

Oh well, keep the photos coming guys and gals. I'll satiate my ink cravings through you.

^^ You couldn't hold off any longer! Just a fantastic whale, man! Mine have NOT looked so good on the first day - extra puffy. Don't know if it's your skin or the artist, but what a difference. But that doesn't mean you don't have to wait those two weeks to go back in the surf! Keep us posted on whatever you add next:2cool:!

Alright mez, those are cool. No tats here (yet) but I respect the ink. Of all the one's you gotten over the years, which was the most painful or pain in the .... to get done? I heard the fingers hurt a lot. Me and my fiance talked 'bout doing rings instead of having wedding bands but it's still up in the air.

Anyone buy that saying about tattoing the name of your signifcant other is like a jinx or do ya'll think that is just a myth?

Pretty much anything on the inside of the arm sucks, all the way from the armpit to the wrist, with the inner elbow being the worst. Of course that's been my experience. Different people have different pain tolerance in different places.

For instance, I got a couple tats on my chest (not a full chest piece), I damn near slept through both on them because I felt almost nothing, except when the lead to the machine zapped my nipple lol. But I've seen other people get inked in the same spots that just about crawled out of their skin.

I think pain is an interesting thing and mostly mental. I can sit through a 12 hour tattoo (the samurai girl was about 11.5hr... but probably because we screwed around a lot), but I pass out when getting pierced, lol.

The only names you should ever get tattooed are blood relatives... I know a lot of "high end" shops won't tattoo names at all unless its a child, sibling, parent or grandparent.

There were breaks in there, lol. We watched a little spongebob, got some pizza, smoked a LOT of cigarettes... I'm pretty good friends with the owner of the shop that did it, and it was my last week in Cali before moving back to WI...

Come to think of it though, it probably wouldn't have hurt as much toward the end if we had just sit down and did it. Taking long breaks gives the skin a chance to rest... problem everything is super sensitive, so when you start going back at it, it extremely painful. Kind of like smacking a sunburn right after you finally cooled it off with some aloe, lol.

Wait hold up, you're a grown ... man, eating pizza, and watching spongebob, all the meanwhile getting inked up for the better part of a day. Are you sure ya'll were just smoking cigarettes?

By the way, I pop advils (Ibuprofen) like they are tic tacs sometimes and I read about how that thins your blood or something like that which isn't good if you're going into a session or afterwords. Is that a big deal or am I reading to much into it folks?

ETA: I don't drink or do drugs, nor am I under any medication. Just advils from time to time.

Lots of people assume the Atheist symbol is an Anarchy one. I get that a lot myself. I'm getting a similar tattoo on my inner right forearm... but with the Humanist symbol too.

It will be the session after my coloring session on Oct 10th. Most likely in December.

Fwiw: I'm a Secular Humanist and open about it... I've lost a few friends over my beliefs.

I've lost a few friends over my beliefs.

Sorry you lost friends, I had a few difficult conversations when I announced my lack of faith back in 2008, but didn't lose any friends. One of the responses I received from some friends of mine was "We are so sorry you have turned your back on God." and my wife and I have dinner with them almost weekly. I did have a few peripheral people that don't seek me out anymore though.
