I'm done with cartos and I want a tank that does not use cartos. Just a tank with a wick and an atomizer. I've got 10 tabs open and my head is swimming and I have questions.. Please help. I use a 5v 510 passthrough and it's 3/4 inch in diameter so I'd like the tank to be similar in size.

1. What tank setup would you recommend for me?
2. What ohm dual coil is correct for 5v? I tried looking it up but I still don't have a solid answer.
3. 2.8-3.2 ohms at 5v is optimal, right? I like a lot of warm vapor.
4. What is a map tank?
5. What tank systems are there that do not incorporate cartomizers or filler?
6. Dual coil tank, or single coil?
Thanks so much ECF'ers.:)

Well, you said you are thru with cartomizers, so that rules out cartotanks, right?

A map tank is a cartotank.

3.0 ohm is a good resistance for 5 volts.

You want to look into a Vision mini Vivi Nova tank. String wicks that wic to an atomizer head. They are only single coil I think.

There are atomizer tanks that are just now coming to market that use a submurgable dripping atty in a tank, but they are more expensive than you would want to pay as a beginner.

I trust ViviNova more than most.

Vivi Nova is only a tank in the barest sense of the word. In all honesty its a clearomizer with a larger capacity than most, thats the "tank" part.

Its a clearo tank.

If you want a true tank you can do a lot worse than listening to Baditudes excellent advice and trying out a carto tank.

Disagree.
VN is certainly more tank than carto.
That's two cents worth.

Let me give you a little history lesson then junior.

The first commercial tank in production was an Ego Tank or Ego T. It had a small reservoir that held a couple ml of liquid and an atomizer. The atomizer was made with a point that punctured the tank.Gravity caused it to drip directly onto the atomizer. People still use them today although they arent that popular.

From there, people on this very forum started experimenting with punching holes in cartomizers, sealing them inside plastic test tubes with grommets and gave birth to what is commonly referred to as a carto tank or simply "tank". You can find them made of polyproplylene, pmma, Pyrex, and stainless steel. Some still utilize rubber grommets while others use delrin or stainless steel endcaps with o-rings inside. They will take any standard or xl cartomizer and you can get them pre-punched or punch them yourself. Tanks range from 5 dollars all the way up to 80 dollars for custom sandblasted and colored tanks with matching endcaps.

A Vivi Nova is a relatively new juice delivery device thats come onto the market in the past year. It is indeed a clearomizer. Every clearomizer out there uses wicks as opposed to filler material like you would find in a cartomizer. The only thing even remotely tank like about it is a larger reservoir than other clearomizers. It generally goes for 10 bucks.

Calling it a tank causes confusion. Its a clearomizer/tank hybrid or clearo tank plain and simple.

Saying its more of a tank than a carto tank shows you still have a lot to learn when it comes to vaping but the good news is youre in the right place :)

I would suggest reading a little more and trying to be an expert 60 days into vaping a little less, you might get a better reception.

The OP asked for "tank" suggestions that don't use a carto. The vivi nova is listed many places as a tank, it's all semantics. I assume they're looking for something with a large capacity that doesn't use a carto, and the vivi fits the bill.

I'd also suggest maybe a Kanger T3, though they can be hit or miss on QC from my experience.

Op asked for a tank system and someone suggested trying a carto tank. Putting a carto in a tank and keeping it wet constantly through gravity and capillary action eliminates burnt hits and many of the drawbacks associated with using plain cartos.

Both dual coil and single coil tanks are carto tanks....so is a MAP tank if Im not mistaken. Clearomizers like the Vivi Nova dont have dual coils and are a sideways step in the wrong direction IMO.

The OP is getting confused because he's googling "tanks" and DCT, MAP, dual and single coil are coming up when he should be googling clearomizers or vivi nova instead....one more reason why they should be called clearo tanks instead of just tanks.

Next time you have the chance try a Nova and a carto tank with the same juices on the same device side by side, you might just be surprised.

Ok I get it now, thanks so much everyone :). That power chart is great. So what I'm looking for is a clearomizer or a clearotank. I'll try out the cartotanks, but I just don't like the idea of poly filler, because it is toxic when it burns, right? Maybe with SS or cotton wick it would be better.

The vivi nova looks good, my question now is why would a cartotank perform better than a vivi or vice versa? It sure would be great to be able to make my own coil heads instead of buying new cartos. Are there any 3.0 ohm clearotanks/clearomizers that are better than the vivi nova, in your opinion?

Also, are there any 3.0 ohm cartos with something other than polyfill?

Oh yeah and to use a dual coil at 5v 2.2a, do I go for 1.5 or 3 ohms?

Novas suffer from wicking issues, just like all clearomizers do with heavier juices. Ive seen people posting that they vape all vg juices like Bobas just fine in them but I doubt they are doing so without modifications or thinning the juice.

If you vape mostly pg juices it may not be an issue. Ive tried both and clearos mute the flavor of my high vg juice too much.

Not trying to sell you but in a carto tank its next to impossible to burn the filler if its primed right and set at the right voltage.A full tank ensures that its constantly wet.

WageSlaveEscapist, read my blog below on juice carrying devices. I've written about the more common delivery devices, how they work, how they are used, included photos and videos on how to fill them. All are based either on a string wick or filler wick. This will give you a broader knowledge base upon which to make your choice in a juice delivery system.

Picture Dictionary of Juice Carrying Devices:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...k-what-primer-juice-delivery-attachments.html
______

The only way to get away from a wick in a delivery device is to go with a direct juice feeder. The least expensive route with this would be dripping juice on a drip atomizer. These only hold a few drops of juice at a time, so I don't think you will care for that, as you were asking for a tank.

A bottom feeder box mod is another alternative, but that is going to cost around $75 for the cheapest one that I know of, a Vampage VMod. VMOD 2.0 and VMOD XL One of the better bottom feeders is the Reo, and it will cost you almost twice that at $120 for a Mini Reo.

_____

Very new on the market device is the AMP tank. There's a huge thread on these right here in this sub-forum. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tanks/348394-amp-tank-amp-tank-amp-tank.html

The AMP tank is a complete tank system that uses a submersable atomizer. No string wicks or polyfiller. But it is very new, so reviews are still in the beginning stages, and will put you back $120.
______

The Killer atomizer is another new submersable atomizer, but you have to find your own tank to put it in. As far as I know, no one is offering these for sale in the US.

Just to follow up, it's pretty evident I dont like Vivi Novas and heres the major reason why:

New vapers usually start out using cartos.

New vaper gets tired of burnt hits and issues in perfomance with cartos.Swears off cartos completely.

Next logical step would be to move up to carto tanks since it solves many of the problems associated with cartos but youve already sworn them off without trying a more advanced system.

Instead someone says try a ViVi Nova "tank" instead.

More experienced but still new vapor tries Novas, T3's and all the rest of the clearomizers and still isnt happy with wicking issues, plastic cracking, vapor production etc. Swears off "tanks"

Vaper gets frustrated with clearos and either quits vaping altogether or moves on to dripping or RBA's without ever having tried a carto tank at all.

Which is a shame because Ive found their flavor to be superior to all other methods of juice delivery aside from dripping (too inconvenient) or Rbas (to fiddly).

All Im saying is give carto tanks a try before swearing off cartos altogether.... you might be glad you did.

Zapp, I totally agree with everything you said. I only recommended a Vivi Nova because it is tank, or larger capacity clearomizer, because they are easy to fill and use for beginners. I don't care for clearomizer tanks myself, as I'm sure that you are aware. They mute flavor in most cases, but there are many vapors who like and prefer using them. You know the phrase, "whatever keeps you off the smokes...".

I didn't recommend a cartotank, perhaps against my better judgement, because the OP indicated he wanted nothing to do with cartomizers. And although I personally prefer cartotanks, I was trying to take my keys from the OP's wishes. I ended up giving him some wickless alternatives for him, which more than likely he can't afford.

The OP came into this thread not having much knowledge and asking for advice, and that's all the more experienced vapors can do. Give advice, the best we know how. We can't tell them what they won't listen to.

Are you using cart's by themselves? A cartomizer tank keeps the carto's filled, and keeps them from the burnt taste. A good cartomizer tank that doesn't cost too much is this: https://www.ibtanked.com/kits/complete-tanks/19mm-clear-tank-detail, or this http://www.myvaporstore.com/U_DCTank_Tube_6ml_Chrome_p/udct-t.htm

A clearomizer tank would be something like this Splitfire- Vcore Tank by Tempest Tek | e-smokeonline, or this GotVapes VISION ViVi NOVA™ 3.5ml V2.5 REBUILDABLE TANK [gv-VIVINOVA-TANKV2.5] - $12.95 : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more, or this Kanger T3, M-T3, Mini T3 CENTRAL : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more

Do you use juices like cinnamon, or other juices that can crack a tank? .If so, you'll need a polypropylene, or glass tank.

For 5v, you need 3Ω. or higher. Personally, I don't like dual coils. I'm not sure if you can even get a dual coil clearomizer tank.

I would like to say that the forum and all who contribute there suggestions are great. There is a learning curve to trying new setups. I'm currently using the vivi.it works for me.Nothing wrong with cart tanks or other setups. I've tried them all and found what I like the best.I also do not like the dual coils. I had problems with flooding with the catro tanks until I started punching my own Boge single coil carts. I dont know why but it seemed like the filler was tighter inside the boge and did not flood like some others. I still occasionally use my carto tank setup. Good Luck.
