So I just received my #20 v3 from VaporTek but it has a pretty big problem where if you touch the button and another part of the mod with a piece of metal it fires. Putting your mouth on the drip tip is like putting your mouth on a 9v battery. Is nobody else here having this problem or did you somehow fix it?

I got one last week also - I haven't had the "shocking" experience, and I use a stainless tip, but I noted that my Scar rda had a somewhat "metallic" taste when I used it on the #20. I whipped out a piece of wire & touched it to the button & the atty - yep, it fired.
I sent off an email to John @ Vaportek to see what they will do.

Too bad - I really like the #20 (I have three of them - a V1, V2, and V3), and I was hoping this would be the final fix for it. Evidently....No....

Which is truly a shame. The design of the #20 is exactly what I was looking for in a mod. This is my first mech and the price is right for a beginner who doesn't even know if a mech is right for them. Why is it so hard for them to get it right?? At some point a company is going to come along and take an entire market that should belong to Sigelei.

Would anyone be willing to remove the button and take a picture of the switch's interior?

I'd like to get to the bottom of this, but I need to see how things connect in there...

EDIT:

Someone beat me to the question! Let's investigate.

Okay, so the problem is that the entire topcap is part of the isolation. Perhaps that's the inherent problem with that kind of design where there's bits touching both sides of the battery at all times, like the EA Mod, but with the EA Mod the isolation was on the inside, so there's no chance of anything metal completing the circuit (if you could touch a wire to both that negative brass piece and a part of the exterior body on the EA Mod, the same thing would happen; probably the same deal with a GGTS).

Here are some pics of the button assembly. Sorry for the bad lighting.

This pictures shows the spring still inside inside the mod.

Does it only fire when you touch metal to the top and the button, or does it fire when you touch the top to any part of the body?

If the logic I posted above is correct, it should fire when you touch a wire to the atomizer or topcap above the delrin disk and any part of the body. If that's the case, I can't think of any possible fix or this.

Thanks, let me see if I get this. The long pin goes through the hole in the bottom plate with the delrin insert where it contacts the battery + and the firing button completes the connection to the 510 atty by pressing against the pins on both ends of the switch head?

Yep, any part of the body and the atty will fire it. I thought it was just the button, but nope.

The long pin goes through the thing on the left of the first picture (that looks like a top hat), and the button hits the outside of the top hat to complete the circuit.

Yep, any part of the body and the atty will fire it. I thought it was just the button, but nope.

Well, I guess that solves it then.

Well, I think I'll wait for the v4 #20.

Given Sigelei's complete inability to solve all the problems with the #20, is there any hope they can get this fixed with a fourth version? I'm also considering the idea that Sigelei will finally just give up on the #20. Since I'm new to this, does Sigelei usually update their mods till the problems are solved? Have the given up on a mod before?

I was thinking of just telling VaporTek to send me the 19b instead of waiting around for the #20 v4. That's the only other Sigelei mod I like and don't want them to sell out!

I remember looking at Nam's switch photos, and I asked about the black ring. The black ring is supposed to insulate, right? It seems to me that it won't insulate because it doesn't cover the top of the head all the way to the delrin insert...so it doesn't actually insulate, but it looks like it insulates when the head is assembled. I'm not the mod expert here, but hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong. It seems to me that the black ring should look more like a washer and cover the entirety of the metal part of the housing...

That top piece doesn't touch the head. There is a tiny space between the head and the top piece with the ring attached. I suppose it could still allow current through like maybe an arc? It does seem like this plastic should cover the entire head though...

I got the 19 all brass and it's my fav of the Sigelei mods. I had to return the 20 for repair but rarely use it. The 19 ss has a switch problem and you have to press it at a certain angle. I don't use it much but put the ss tube on the brass top and bottom for a different look. When it comes to Sigelei products, it's hit or miss. I have a Zmax go back for repair and the new one has the screen a little off. At the moment, I'll keep what I have but don't plan on owning another mod from Sigelei. I'm thinking about but undecided if I'll be giving any more of my money to companies with shady practices like stealing an original modders designs. It didn't bother me before but having to fix something over and over gets old.

It doesn't really bother me too much if they rip a design. It does bother me when they rip a logo. Sigelei kinda did it with the NZonic clone and I don't even want to get into the Grand Vapor clones. That's just wrong.

For a new vapor like myself it's nice to have cheap mech alternatives to get started. Paying near $200 just isn't in the cards right now especially not knowing if I'll even like them. But this experience may shift my priorities into buying something more stable, rather than how good it looks. I kinda thought mechs were all about the same in how they worked and that the differences came down to the looks. While I think that's how it should be, Sigelei apparently hasn't got the message.

I don't have one of these, but I pictured in my head that the assembly would look like this (side view, not to scale):
New20head.jpg
It looks like the top part with the connector touches the metal of the housing and the black ring doesn't prevent the top part and the housing from touching. If those two parts touch, then the circuit is always complete I think. Since I don't own one of these, I don't know if that is indeed the case. It seems to me that the top of the housing should not have the "ridge," and the black ring should cover the top of the housing completely, like this (side view, not to scale):

Quick question: How did you get the fire button off? I've tried unscrewing the collar on mine but No Joy....

One of my favorite setups, brass 19 top, stainless 19 tube, 8w button. Hits hard, looks great. I prefer the 8w button, it stands without locking and feels better to me.
