Dead short P, on a carto your carto pin is probably crooked and tightening it probably pushed it to the side shorting it to the inside of the male 510. Certain can do that if tightened too much. Or you have a recessing v3 center pin shorting the mod out or intermittent dead short in the atty but unlikely, and possibly due to over tightening

The sigelie protected you a mechanical mod would not. Extended firing with a short in a mech can cause a battery vent even with a 30 amp battery. Most likely only if it had a short and wasn't locked and the switch was stuck on fire it could vent with massive energy with a 30 amp. Or a non imr or low amp battery would go into thermal run away much faster.

When your device reads "short" it's telling you that there is an abnormal condition that will allow too much current to flow from the positive pin on the device directly to ground. During normal operation, the device will sense the resistance of the atomizer and allow it to fire. However when it senses little to no resistance, it displays the "short" fault. No resistance would cause too much current to flow, since there is very little to "resist" it. A short condition would normally damage the device and/or the batteries very quickly due to the runaway heat caused by the high current flow. Luckily, the Zmax has internal protection that prevents it from being fired while the "short" fault exists, which prevents this sort of damage.

A short is most often an indication that there is a bad connection at the tank where something is making a conductive bridge from the center pin on the Zmax to the outer threads of the 510 connector. The Zmax will also display a "short" if the resistance of the atomizer is below the minimum allowed by the device (I think it's 1.2 ohms if I remember right).

Gotcha, it hasn't done it again so it was probably just the way the tank was screwed on or the pin being crooked like Jeremy said. Thank you for adding that little knock to the mechanical as well Jeremy lol. I guess you saw my thread about wanting to get a mech? I probably won't switch, but I did get that one just to see how I like it. I just get tired of the issues, the stinkin buttons messing up, the misfires and always feeling like it's b/c of something I'm doing wrong, it gets tiring. I Noaloxed the crap out of all my mods, again and the issues haven't changed. Although, again, I haven't had the issue with my Vamo. Idk, maybe I'm just crazy!

Ok, so I got a Nemesis over the weekend. Been using it in 18650 mode, but wanted to try 18350 mode. I love the tiny little mod! When I screwed off the extra tube, I thought the threads looked similar to the a sigelei top cap. So I figured "Why not". And to my disbelief, it fit! I screwed on the top cap, and had a perfect glass protector for my mini protank!! This is so neat!! Not sure if I can do anything else with the parts from the Nemesis, but I'll mess around. Isn't a perfect tube to use with a 510 to eliminate the gap though.

Here it is in 18650 mode with "protector": ( tiny Nemy next to it with KLF+ v2)

Not sure why it's sideways, sorry!

Start using the vamo all day every day.. I think you'll start to have an issue at some point. For me it was stripping the 510 .. I did and yes mechs are nice just know there are inherent risks. Certain mods are worse than others. A short stop resettable fuse can make it safe. My issue is having to lock it to prevent a continuos fire condition. But many people use them. You'll hear the occasional " my mod was burning fire hot when I pulled it out my bag"

I get the short indicator a lot.. I am using a KPT2 with the air flow control added to it. The center pin on the AFC is a floating pin surrounded by a rubber. When I install the atomizer if I'm not careful I can easily over tighten and push the AFC center pin down. Then when I install the tank on the mod the pin gets pushed back up and squishes the atomizer center pin up crushing the atomizer insulator causing the short or low load fault . Hope this makes sense...

That is a great point. I always worry about how tight is too tight. I'm going to pay a little more attention to that!

The ten Omron tactile switches I ordered from Digi-Key on Friday morning arrived today on Monday evening, USPS First Class. Part of me wants to slap one these into a V3 tonight just for fun but my practical side is going to wait until I actually need to replace a switch. They go out to the workbench for storage for the time being.

Fegbri, you might need guy wires to keep that upright. :) How tall is it?

Doesn't add any more height, but it is a true light saber now!!

Just trying to find options still to get rid of the gap I get on most 510 tanks. Wish there were different top rings to buy somewhere. Might just try a provari ring, even though I don't like the pressure fit set up.
