Ah, now the "posted" makes sense. I guess I'm also just not used to seeing "nores" written all together like that. When I was still rebuilding my Protank atomizers, I was welding my kanthal and nickel wires together with a little wire welder I made from a schematic I found online that uses an 18650 battery. I don't have a need to do that much anymore now that I'm using both of my Kayfuns pretty much exclusively.

I Googled "nores connector" and got no results earlier today. Thanks for the explanation, JeremyR. Pics always make a difference.

About all of the work I want to put into vaping is punching four holes into a carto once every 10 days. This IBTank is 5ml.

I like reading about rebuildables, though.

Yzer - I have been using Boge cartos for awhile now in my tank but only punch 2 holes. I kept flooding the carto if I try more than that. I'm relatively happy with the Boges but sometime wish they would wick a bit quicker. I guess I could stop chain vaping... What cartos do you use?

i guess I should have looked a little closer at your signature info - Smoketech

:D I love Smok Smok cartos and have used them for nearly three years. No "Bogegate", Smok cartos never tasted like Bacon. Smok can't be bad, IBTanked sells them (Boges too.)

I punch my own non-flanged Smok single coil XL cartos using a Siam Mods V2 carto punch. Even with four medium-sized holes punched into each carto I am still using the first set of O-rings that came with this 11 month-old tank. Believe it or not I punch larger holes into the carto during the winter than I do for the summer. I DIY a very thick VG juice. The larger holes will cause flooding with warmer summer temperatures. It gets over 100° here in Norcal.

Even when properly primed Smok cartos will draw airy and light for the first ten minutes or so until they tighten up. Nothing works better for high percentage VG juices, IMO.

yzer thank you for starting an awesome thread. I have read about 70% of it and I plan to finish it off soon.

I today received a new Zmax V5 I bought off of Fleabay. It seems to be the previous revision without a metal button, which I am fine with as long as it works. The main thing I want is the stainless 510 threads, which is why I bought the V5 over the V3 (as I didn't want to get stuck with a brass revision). I actually don't mind the look of the non-metal button at all, so unless there is some huge revision difference I missed in the 30% of the thread I haven't read yet I think I will keep it.

I have to admit this is much smaller and sturdier than I expected. I am coming from a Vamo V2 and this is like night and day in size. The vape is also much cleaner and these 510 threads are AMAZING. Like worth everything I paid. I bought some Ox-guard yesterday and I plan to clean it up and wipe it down now that I confirmed it worked a little.

Quick question for the group: three of the Sigelei batteries came with my kit. I am a pretty low usage and low volt vaper- if I get a better charger am I "fine" with the OEM batteries? Like not explode, not cause me problems? I had a Panasonics for my Vamo but I kinda like the way these look.

Thank you for all the amazing info in this thread and for any response!!!

Thanks for checking in! The plastic buttons work just as well as the metal. Really, there is no functional difference.

First generation V3s (without the removable top cap) had the press-fit brass eGo threading and stainless steel 510 threading. Second generation V3s and all V5s have one piece stainless steel 510/eGo threading.

Many vendors supply Sigelei brand batteries with Sigelei kits. I have not heard of any problems with these batteries but nobody seems to have any specs on them. I have two solid blue Sigelei 18650s that came with my first kit. They have worked fine for my 7 watt vaping and still operate well after a year of light use.

Glad you are enjoying the new V5! These are great rigs.

I haven't read all this thread so apologies if my question is redundant, but was the mean mode a big influence for people in choosing a Zmax versus some other APV's? I have a V5 gunmetal flat top, about 3 months old, and a new V3 Stainless, button top which reminded me of a particular version of a Provari in appearance. I love the mean mode and use it frequently - it's like a turbo switch. The first time i tried it i thought i had actually inhaled some juice. I'm sold on them now and would not go to anything less than a Provari. I don't rebuild or sub-ohm but find the mean setting gives that extra boost of cloud and flavor when RMS is not sifficient. Great thread!

Nobody can be expected to read all of this thread. It's too long. Most of us are happy to answer questions.

Mean mode settings result in typically higher values than RMS. Of the two RMS is the more accurate.

All VV Vmax devices were mean mode only. People discovered that Vmax was hitting harder than other VV devices and wondered why. Some liked the stronger hit. Some were burning cartos and juices. It was discovered that other manufacturers like Provari were using RMS to calculate voltage not mean averaging.

Yihiecigar developed the Vmax chip sold to Smok and other companies. I don't think that Sigelei used Vmax. After complaints about Vmax hitting too hard Yihiecigar offered the switchable Mean/RMS option for their new VV/VW Zmax chip. Having both methods of calculation on the device made everyone happy: older users who were accustomed to the stronger Vmax hit and newer Zmax users who liked accurate RMS settings.

I don't think that Yihiecigar even bothered with switchable Mean/RMS on their newer chips like 20W and 30W. These are RMS only.

The battery tube should be adjusted so that the battery spring is about 1/2 compressed regardless of battery size used.

    or...

-Using the tall (15mm) battery cap with batteries longer than 18350: end of battery should extend 1/8" past the end of the tube. Then screw on the battery cap while holding the battery tube in place.

-Using the short (10mm) battery cap with batteries longer than 18350: end of battery should be 1/8" below the end of the tube. Then screw on the battery cap while holding the battery tube in place.

-For 18350 battery: Screw the battery tube down all the way to it's shortest position. Use the short battery cap. It fits 18350 perfectly. The tall battery cap may fit for 18350 or it may not without stretching the spring.

-For 2x18350: Use the tall battery cap. The end of the second 18350 should extend 1/8" past the end of the tube. Then screw on the battery cap while holding the battery tube in place. The short cap is too short for 2x18350 and will leave some of the telescopic tube threads exposed, greatly increasing tube wobble.

This is great info, Yzer; I had wondered if I could use the short cap with the 18490s that arrived last week when I was so sick. Still haven't played with them, or even charged them yet; figured that once I'm more back to normal, it would be a good time to break down the Sigelei again and re-noalox, and get my various toppers cleaned up, and then give the 18490 length a test drive.

I've learned that IMR batteries may require a couple of charge cycles before they reach full capacity. This seemed to be especially true with new 18350s.

^ +1 on this... definitely true on one set of my '350s, though the other set seemed to hit full charge the very first time I charged them. Not sure why the diff, but I made sure not to use the set that needed a 2nd charge as a stacked-set until I got them both reading exactly the same voltage. Now they're in sync, and seem to stay that way.

I just did though lol. Great treasure trove of information. Made me feel good about buying the device to begin with!

And I am glad I did. This is just simply amazing! The 510 threads are the best I have seen- I basically rethreaded my lucky carto with them today that my Vamo ruined! The overall build quality amazes me! And the vapor-jeez. Well my first vape was rough because it was in Mean mode, but after I remembered I needed to change that it has been a dream. In fact, it showed me how off my Vamo was, all the VV settings I remembered for my carts I had to adjust!

I think I put a little too much Ox-guard on last night as when I hold the middle in full length mode it gets on my hands. I guess applying it properly will take practice, and the first time I wanted to overdo it and not underdo it. I just need to be careful to wash my hands after use for now I guess.

Thank you yzer for the info about the brass. Knowing that, I think I will track down a V3 as a backup eventually. I kinda wish I had a V3 already because when I miss the item I want in the menu there is one extra option (that I will probably never use) that I have to cycle through to get back to the one I want!

Thank you again for the welcome and the info. Glad to be part of the club, this mod is amazing and I see myself owning multiple like many of you!

Thanks for posting that, VapieDan. It's not a very accurate attempt at a Sigelei clone but it does have a vague resemblance to the real thing.

Yeah I kinda like it, it sorta reminds me of a cross between a Sig flat-top and a SVD, the *truly* flat top with the dimples. Bit pricier than a real Sig though.
