poopynuggeteer has a V5, so your V3 with a metal button would be a first report. Seeing a photo would be great!

Zmax v3 with metal button. (Purchased on 1/10/14 from varitube.com)

Hey everybody,

First off my handle is silly and I can't help but laugh whenever I get quoted, sorry guys hehe. Hopefully no one is offended!

Finally got the tobeco KFL clone in today. Let me just warn anybody getting one: CLEAN IT THOROUGHLY before you use it, 510 connection and all. I did a quick rinse, assembled and filled and had no airflow. Took it all apart and there was so much black crud in the air chamber I probably shortened my life significantly LOL. I'm running the stock 2 ohm coil as I haven't received my 28ga kanthal yet. This thing is no joke, a really nice vape, almost too much flavor though as I got extra flavor shots from MBV. Got root beer on there now vaping at 4.2v.

Also picked up some flat top efest 18490s and clipped the spring on the sigelei. To my surprise they're different sizes. The small one fits with no telescoping, larger one does not. No idea how that happened but the vendor is helping me out on that.

Here is some good news. Desert Vapes has re-stocked Sigelei Zmax V3 and V5 telescopics. They have brushed SS V3 in flat top and slant top for $39.95. V5s available in SS and black chrome, flat or slant top for $46.95. All have removable top caps and 30-day vendor warranty.

Mods

I should add: these are body-only deals, not kits. The typical Sigelei body-only boxes are about 1/2 the size of the kit boxes and white with the Sigelei name on two sides.

Okay, I know this info is in here somewhere, and I have read at least 75% of this thread, BUT I think I am more confused then I should be. I am about to purchase a Zmax V3 and obviously need batteries. I was going to get a couple 18490s and an 18650. I have looked at the reviews of batteries and bookmarked baditudes list. Will the AW IMR 18650 and 18490s be just fine?

Also probably going to grab a Panasonic NCR18650PF - if it will work okay with this mod.

Button top vs flat top? I havent found that it makes much difference, but I am pretty new to mods so I figure I should ask!

Also getting a Efest LUC V4 charger. I assume this is one serious charger.

Im literally placing my order now.

What is the difference between the two types of kits? Are the extensions in the body only boxes?

HopCloud, The Sigelei V3 and V5 take either flat top or button top batteries. Either AW or Efest IMR batteries are fine. The AWs will be better performers at the highest part of the Sigelei Zmax power range. I use Efest IMR 18500 mostly.

The Sigelei Zmax V3 and V5 do not use extension tubes. There is no need for them with a telescopic tube body. Some of the Sigeleis at Destert Vapes include both the short and long battery caps and others do not. Actually, the short 10mm cap is required for the telescopics to measure in at 100mm length for 18350. The 15mm caps are easier to use and deliver the same overall tube length as the short cap with all batteries longer than 18350.

Body only means just that. The device only. Kits include batteries, a charger, a topper, etc.

So is the bigger battery cap better/easier to use w/ the longer batteries? Or does it not make a difference?

By the way...really liking my new atty (my 1st) & dripping! Really surprised at how much more you can taste the juice! Even though I kept hearing about it. For me it's probably only going to be practical to drip at home though. Going to try out the cheap carto tank at work tomorrow. (any suggestions for setups on how to get better/more flavor out of the carto tanks...cartomizer, device settings, etc?)

Glad you are enjoying the new rig. The secret to any carto tank is getting the carto punched the way you want it for the juice you use. The idea is to have the carto as fully saturated as possible and just short of flooding while working in the tank. I punch my own cartos. With the 95% VG DIY juice I like four medium-sized holes punched around the lower end of the carto.

The larger physical size of the 15mm battery cap makes it easier to handle and screw into the tube. The reason why the larger cap will deliver the same overall device length as the 10mm cap has to do with the battery springs and is explained at length here...

Thanks for the advice! I wanted to get a punch but unfortunately the vendor I got my tank from was out of stock at the time. Will pick one of those up asap. I'm vaping a 50/50 and pretty sure the two tiny prepunched holes are not enough.

Another great post about the battery placement & caps! This thread has everything & is like an in depth zmax manual! Wish there was a way to have an index of links to all the major posts/topics like that one. (sort of like an in-thread sticky)

The search thread tab at the top of the page is currently your only option. Other than, of course, just asking us. Sometime when I look at the zmax or just vape on it, it's like its a high end mod. Costing 3-4 times the price. :)

I know what you mean! Even though I am brand new to the mod world, I feel like the zmax looks, feels, and performs pretty high end! Still loving my choice. Going on 3 days now and working great!

Did your zmax come w/ the Kanger Mini Pro Tank 2 look alike tank too? Still have yet to try mine out (been playing w/ new atty and a new carto tank) but expecting it to perform pretty decently. I started off w/ bcc's and feel comfortable w/ them!

"The Sigelei Protank Glassomizer is a container for your e juice. The mouthpiece and tank are all one piece, so there is nowhere for juice to leak out. Protank materials include metal and a sturdy plastic, giving the entire item an almost indestructible feel. It can be broken, but not without considerably bad luck. This tank holds 2.5mls of liquid." End quote

If the tank is really plastic instead of pyrex please be careful what juice you put in it.

Fast chargers aren't always the best choice if you want the battery to last for the most charge cycles. The 1 amp (1000mA) Sigelei charger gets a battery pretty warm but it is fast. The old Trustfire TR-001 is 500mA and takes something like eight hours to charge a pair of 18650s. The 18650s will probably give me more charge cycles off the Trustfire because the battery doesn't get that warm during a charge. Heat is said to be the #1 killer of Li-ion batteries.

Like JeremyR wrote, there is more to the charging profiles than just the mA rating but I'm not expert on this. The Xtar and Nitecore chargers get good reviews almost everywhere.

Yeah, definitely not impressed with the kit Sigelei batteries.. or even the extra eFest I bought. Seems like the batteries have been running down quicker lately.. Or maybe it's because I'm vaping more with my better juices now :D

I think the "quick-charge" charger (which came with the kit), as you mentioned, might also be part of the problem.

Getting time to upgrade these 2 components, willing to pay a few bucks more for long-lasting quality...

Just got my new v3 from Desert Vapes yesterday. It didn't have the metal fire pin.
