Aaaaaand the flip side of burnt taste is... gurgle!
I've been working on building a high-ohm protank coil this afternoon. 9 wraps of 32ga; first I tried a 3mm silica wick, with a 1.5mm silica flavor wick. got one 1 good hit... and it really was good, considering that from protank coils, I usually find the flavor very muted -- which is why I picked the protank to start with. After that 1 good hit, all I got was gurgle, and no amount of wiping, swabbing, the center tube did any good, it seemed the juice was just running right thru, onto the battery.
So I took all the silica out of it, and used a full strand of P&C yarn for the coil, with half a strand of it for the flavor wick. It's better, but not completely free of the gurgle, and definitely giving me more taste than heretofore with any protank-type coil. Not sure how to address it at this point, how to eliminate the gurgle without causing dry hits.
While I ponder, and wait for golden pearls of wisdom from here and various other sources on ECF, I'm going to warm up dinner, feed myself and the spouse, and afterward, work on a T3S coil.
I did use the 5/64 drill bit for the protank coil, those heads are just so tiny and I knew I wanted 9 wraps, and without a torch it's damn hard to get them close enough together -- though the 32ga is so fine that the blue base of a lighter's flame worked at least somewhat, to help me squish it togther without overlapping any of the coils. Oh, the 9 wraps of 32ga on a 5/64 bit gives me a solid 3.2 Ω, so I think that's the right size. When I work on the T3S coil, I thought I might use a 7/64 bit my husband came up with.
