I decided to switch from cartridges to cartomizers, and picked up a 10-pack of Boge 510 cartos. I've tried 3 so far, and all 3 make a distinct sizzling noise durning and for a few seconds after using them. It sounds like I'm vaping fried eggs... is this supposed to happen?

(Answering questions I'm sure will be asked.... I drip anywhere between 12-20 drops in all around the sides, taking care to avoid the central channel thingy, and let them sit for about 5 minutes before first use. I have both auto and manual batteries, and it happens on both.) :)

1 thing that draws a red flag for me, you need to let the cartomizers "rest" longer than 5 minutes after filling. More like a matter of hours as opposed to minutes. Otherwise, the liquid may not become fully distributed into the batting and you could burn a perfectly good carto. We all know how bad it sucks to have to throw one away, especially if you got next to no use out of it. :/

But, to answer your question, Yes, the sizzling sound does happen in some cases. One thing that could be happening is, the connection to the batter could be drawing too much air through the carto in which case, that sound you are hearing is more of a gurgle. Try loosening the carto slightly from the battery and if that doesn't help, try adjusting the post on the carto or battery by taking a paper clip and insert just the tip into the hole of the post and gently "pry" up, rotate to the opposite side and do the same until the post looks level. After doing this, when you screw the carto to the battery, it will push the two together and create a more solid connection.

I usually put in 18 drops or so. They are 1ml cartos and you want every bit of stuffing to be damp or you change singeing the carto and ruining the taste. Hopefully you have manual batteries. If you have autos you need to be super careful a carto is not going to leak before you put it back on your battery. Some manuals can be damaged by leaks too (manuals with a hold in the threaded end of the battery) but not as easily as autos.

After cleanup I usually lay a freshly filled blank on different sides for 15-20 min (which is enough with my 70% and 80% PG juices. People with thicker juices may need to let it soak in longer)

Sizzle is good. Sizzle means it's new, it's clean, it's happily vaporizing away. It may even pop or crackle. As deposits build up on the coil and the stuffing gets more boggy, the sizzle will diminish then be gone. But the longer I hear sizzle the happier I am. Sizzle usually means you are getting a good hit.
