Small-ish mechanical mod?

Just can't stand to wait for the Infinity, can you?

Ha ha, that's another one I'm really interested in. But I thought about it. I don't know if I want a varivolt. I want my sweet spot, all the time. And I definitely do want to be able to fix it myself if it dies - thus mechanical. I'm still budget-conscious, although my cash flow should be less restricted than it is now, which is the only reason I'm considering a mod at all. Otherwise I'd be going back to 3.7/3.2v kind of experience.

I've thought for a long time I might like the 7-ish watt/4-something voltage range better, but I didn't have the means... now I've tried it, know I like it better, and might have the means. But I don't ever want my baby in the shop. :p I have a basic knowledge of mechanics, and it doesn't seem like it'd be too tough for me to figure out with a somewhat simple mechanical mod.

The problem I've found with a known sweet spot and a static setup to get you there is that you're on shifting sands regarding atty resistance. The other day I was down to my last 3 LRs, which were reading 1.3, 1.5 & 1.7 ohms--same make & model (EM). A VV allows you to compensate for these kind of small differences that make all the difference.

That's true. I've noticed the resistance of my 510 LR changing, although since I don't have a meter I don't know where it started, or where it is now.

But this little range is where I want to be. And the difference isn't big enough for me to mind.

Because at the end of the day, I don't want to have an arsenal. I want something that I can pick up and have it work every time. Or if it doesn't, I can take it apart and diagnose it myself. I have every intention of getting a mod, and giving away 90 percent of the other hardware I have, with the 10 percent just being enough back-ups that I'll never be down for charge time. I want something that works, and be done with it.

My partner bought a non-mechanical mod from a well-respected vendor, and it went down in 2 weeks due to some electrical problem that was barbecuing batteries (yes, he was using protected ones). That's a hundred bucks he just flushed down the toilet on what is essentially a disposable unit. I don't want to ever have to fuss with that. I want my mod to outlive me.

That means mechanical. I'll give up the fancy stuff to have that.

How hard do you have to press the top down? It looks kind of solid, from the reviews.

On my list of stuff to get with a mod is "light springs" and something where the switch locks, or otherwise is prevented from firing, due to light springs being, well... lighter. I have a pretty severe repetitive stress injury. My thumb on my right hand (vaping hand) won't hold up to a tough switch.

Yeah, I just don't know what to call that thing. The whole top is a giant switch. :p

It is a nice-looking mod, though the biggest of the mechanicals I'm looking at. But it's really nice-looking. If I could get a lighter spring in there, and the weight of the top isn't too much, it's another contender. Killer battery life I'm sure. Hmmm...

You should see my desktop set-up. My keyboard probably cost more than my computer. Do I get to be an Elite Writer for wrecking my hands by junior year of high school? I mean, that's dedication, right? *sigh*

The 10440's batteries are not up to par to meet the need of a LR306 atomizer, IMO. Having said this, they are quite small batteries and would not be unlike carrying around extra Kr808 bats.
I will post pics in a couple days, of a few of the different e-cigs and mods w/batteries that I have on hand. I say a couple days as I am hoping my P18 comes in and will be able to have it in the shot.

Take your time and continue the indepth research you are doing, as it will pay off in the end.
If you look for any of Drozd's and Switched's post on batteries and in the ikenvape forum here, you will learn so much about batteries and atomizers in regards to resistance, volts, ohm's and the like.
Yes, David will add vent holes to his modds, upon request!

Well, there's a price to be paid for being a writer (and hence, a killer typist).

Would a bottom switch work out better ergonomically?

Heh, yeah, I guess. I can type at the speed of normal speech - roughly 130wpm. I make it work.

The bottom would probably be better than the top, but not ideal. The easiest position is on the side, where my fingers don't have to do anything particularly articulate to hit the button - just hold it slightly tighter.

Top buttons are the worst though. I got to play with a GLV - I couldn't imagine myself using it for a day.

It's hard to describe but if I have to spread my finger(s) to do something, it's more stressful. For example, I have a very small laptop with a very small keyboard. But it's actually more comfortable than a flat, full-size keyboard because there's less spread. And my desktop keyboard is "ergonomic," so it's one of those dealies where it rises and splits in the middle, splitting the keys into 2 sections that are at an angle. That's more comfortable too, and I'm less tempted to hit keys that are far away.

We couldn't have less different taste! I love my GLV2 and I loathe those ergonomic keyboards! :p

I'm thinking one of these from Super-T:
Final1.jpg

Obviously you wouldn't want to hold it as shown, but is your trigger finger up to the task?

Could be. Pinky's not as bad as my thumb, and the switch seems pretty light from what I've seen. I may be able to fire it not putting in much more effort than "resting" my finger there. But I look at the price tag and my head explodes, ya know?

It's gorgeous and I want it... I've seen a SuperT mod, and it's just as impressive if not more so in person, and I'm sure it's worth it. But e-gads.

Right now... I'm mulling over the GGTB and the Icon, with the Mako Minni a somewhat distant 3rd as the aesthetics fall a bit flat with me. Yes, I do care a little about that. :p

Though I'm trying to find out of the GGTB's dummy battery poses the same kinds of risks as stacking. I patiently await the Veteran's words.

The guys that designed the Mako obviously gave no thought to half their clientele being women. Even to me, I can't see vaping with something that ugly when there's other choices.

Yeah, Super-T is pricey (which is why the only thing in their product line I've bought is their drip tips). Maybe when I get my tax return...

I'm not especially demanding on looks, nor especially girlie. Pink eGo's make me want to puke. But c'mon... a little bit of character would be nice. I can't even figure out exactly what it is that makes the Mako's so ugly, but... they are.

Basil - Pretty big... and that can't be mechanical, can it? I'm going to be stubborn about that. :D

Well, nice to know they're getting new end caps. Yeah... garden hose came to mind.
