Yeah thats what others have mentioned, so may stick to this firmware for now, but not happy with the thought of never been able to upgrade firmware, as im sure that will get sorted in the next version. So still looking for a solution, but not heard a word back from smok yet.

I just got the alien yesterday and have not done more than download the update but one thing I did notice was it said to be holding the Fire Button when you hook it to the PC. Did you try that?
Haha, i got so sick of holding the damn fire bar and trying to get it to work i ended up taping it down! What a stupid idea that was of smok, what happens if you accidentally let go mid update i wonder?
LMFAO for real! OK, thanks for answering my question! Could possibly be a Win 10 issue with drivers. I think I might have run across that yesterday but I have not owned the Alien for 24 hours yet and did more cloud chasing than reading! I posted how I was to eager to RTFM the manual to change the coil!

That was my first guess so tried a win 7 laptop i had lying around same result, and thanks, any help would be highly appreciated, what i really need is someone to work out how to flash the hex file with version 2.0 of the isp program and tell me how to do it, im too worried ill brick my new mod!
I know it would be a pita, but have you considered contacting the vendor you bought from? Maybe they would be willing to exchange it? Myself, if it bothered me that much I would do just that. Could be the whole batch they purchased and you aren't the only one having trouble? If that is the case then they would be the ones to deal with SmokTech. Don't know until you try.
That would be a last resort tbh, dont think its a problem with the mod, more a problem with the update program they supply, if they just used version 2.0 and gave instructions for it, am pretty sure it would work as 2.0 sees the device fine.
Not sure that holds up for everyone as I'm on 1.2.2 and TC for 316L works quite well (after setting the proper TCR).
I got my Alien only yesterday and have not messed with attempting to update yet but I am on v1.2.1 and according to the website for the Alien it said it should have come with the v1.2.2
"B" sounds like a Beta Version to me........... That I would be on the phone with the vendor about ASAP!

Possibly, or maybe a revised hardware version, from what i have seen on youtube, vape reviewers who got the beta seemed to be able to update there devices, and also my mod is spot on for build quality, no clicky/wobbly fire bar and an immaculate finish?
I wouldn't think that the "B" in the firmware means a hardware revision. Mine also has a immaculate finish and I read that some of the early productions had bad quality finishes.
Its a shame there isnt a system info screen in the settings, other mods ive had tell you the firmware number and device revision, well if it is a beta its a damn good one, what puzzles me is why i can connect to the later isp software version (2.0) no problem and not the provided one (1.4)?
I haven't use the software yet but I did see that there is a field for a number llike a MAC address when you try to update it has to be set. Let me pull up the bookmark

Yeah but cant edit any of that till the device connects, i did it on version 2.0 but the field to the left of the one your pointing out didnt change to whats in your pic, and no way to change it, so i didnt want to risk pressing flash, thats the problem, because the interface has changed i dont know what setting i should use, im sure it will flash but config file needed may be different, and there are more settings that dont coincide with there guide because there using the outdated isp programming software, which is also puzzling as it is free to download from the numicro site, so why dont smoktech use it?
