Hello everyone,

I got a smok PRO BT50 box mod with bluetooth a couple days ago. I have one concern with it. When the coil is cold and the mod is set for 55w (it came upgrade as a 65w device) it automatically reduces power to 50 watts. Then after that it will run the 55 watts no problem. My build is a .8 ohm dual coil of 26ga kanthal. I have a program curve iin it with the custom power setting of 55w for 0-1sec, 40w for 1-2sec, and 20w for 3-6 sec. I've found that this custom setting gives me great flavor for long vapes up to 5 or 6 seconds.

In regard to it reducing power, I figured that the coil resistance might be too low. I know that resistance would increase with temperature. But seems to me that this should not be happening. The battery in it was fully charged and is a 35amp rated efest 18650. Any advice?

Your PV seems unhappy with 142mm of heavy gauge wire (excessive net mass) to produce such a (relatively) high resistance.

Try going with 27 or 28 gauge... which would be more common for a 0.8Ω dual parallel build, or... with the 26 gauge, lower your net resistance to around 0.4~0.5Ω. Either way, you'll be reducing wire net mass to a far more reasonable level for the resistance.

As you go to thinner wire, you'll find you can reduce your wattage to produce the same heat flux (coil radiant heat). See the first two hyperlinks below for more detailed information on build / wattage optimization.
