I get it from my own mother, of all people. Last year when I told her I'd quit smoking she was extremely happy and then I explained vaping to her, which she'd never even heard of. Then six months later, we were talking on the phone (she lives 1,200 miles from me) and I made some remark about how nice it was that I didn't have to clean that icky tar film off the windows anymore, and she said, "Oh, HONEY! Did you quit smoking????" I was kind of puzzled, and said, "Um, yeah, back in June, remember I told you I switched to vaping?" And she said (and I could just SEE the hand flipping gesture she made), "Oh, I know, but it's the same thing." Argh...

Haha mums eh!! Mine is just glad that I gave up smoking but I had to. I'm not one of those people who lives their life by thinking "it'll never happen to me". I'm very much convinced that if I continued to smoke cigarettes the way I was, it would never have had a good outcome in the long term for me. I got so wheezy with it, I'm probably a bit asthmatic - never been diagnosed and have always passed peak flow tests - but I think I'm more lifestyle-induced asthmatic. If I'm in my small kitchen cooking (and burning) food, I can barely breathe, or if I spray something like a stain remover on clothes (or something a bit toxic), I'll have to go outside to be able to breathe normally again. Probably doesn't help much with working in one of the most polluted cities in the country either but at least I've kicked the fags.

My dad is an ex-smoker - now a hater! He cannot stand it. I always thought people like that were just in denial and, by telling themselves that, it made them believe they hated it but my dad seriously does. Even when we were on holiday, he wouldn't touch one of my cigarettes. But he said to me that I don't need to be vaping. I should just give it up like he did - but not everyone's the same. Giving up smoking has always felt like a big loss (and I've given up countless times!!) but not now with the vaping to replace it.

Has anyone else come across smokers like this? I was standing outside work the other day vaping. I used to be a smoker but gave up in January. I got chatting to a guy who I work with who is a smoker and he said "oh you're onto those now [vaping]" and I said yeah and mentioned how much money I'd saved. His response was "hmmm, I'm not buying that". Smoking, I spent upwards of £35 a week. Vaping, I probably spend £5 a week on, if that. So obviously that's flawed completely.

Then my mum said she was talking to a man the other day who was smoking and she'd mentioned about me switching to vaping. His response was "yeah but that's still as dangerous". Has anyone else found this? Like smokers trying to justify that vaping is just as bad? I mean, if you want to smoke and not give up, then that's obviously your choice and that's fine but there's no denying how dangerous it is for your health, as well as the ridiculous expense of it.

Plus, those that keep saying that vaping is dangerous, since giving up smoking, I've taken up running and in the first 2 weeks, ran about 45 miles! I'm pretty sure when I was on the cigarettes, I wouldn't have been able to run a mile!
it is easier to find excuses for not trying than to do the hard work needed to succeed. even with vaping it is hard to quit smoking. I have been tobacco free for over 14 month but it took a lot of work. smokers have always found excuses for not quitting but I am enjoying the heath benefits of being an ex-smoker. my friends notice that I have more energy and have lost that smokers cough.

Over the years I tried using many of the quitting techniques like don't have the first or put it off for 2 minutes until the craving goes away and there I was a PAD smoker once again. I initially tried to cut down by using the E-Cigs and was still smoking a pack a day until I just woke up one day and said to myself that's it NO MORE! The Cig-A-Likes got me past the crave and withdrawals and it has been over a year and a half without a smoke. In my opinion or what worked for me was Cold Turkey it wasn't fun but electronics got me past the want or need and here I am today happier to be able to say I am a former smoker.

Just my personal experience and what worked for me YMMV............ :2c: :vapor:

I've had the same experience with smokers. But the worst experience I had was with a woman who had quit smoking 2 years ago, cold turkey. She said she "didn't need to take drugs to quit".

I was shocked at her attitude, because otherwise she's a very nice person. I realized later though, that she's resentful that I'm doing it so easily, when for her it was excruciating.

Honestly, the best reactions I've had (apart from other vapers) are from those who have never smoked at all!

I never said it was easy believe me it wasn't and it was hard. But having E-Cigs helped me through the rough part and now I vape because I enjoy it and yes I am using nicotine but slowly intermittently lowering the level. At first 2.4 Mg kept away the cravings which I am now at 1.2 Mg to 1.8 Mg and with mixing maybe 1.5 Mg. I also use tobacco flavor e-liquid and have tried the flavorless.

If we don't educate, no one will.
And if no one does, we will lose and lose badly.

Hey, who cares though, I got my 20 years worth of nicotine in the freezer.
I guess I'll just go sit in a corner and let them screw us.

Actually, no.

No one says anything to me about vaping without walking away with an education.
I'm like a bulldog and I never give up when something is this important.

My goal is to change minds.

Very often ex smokers are the worse when it come to judging others who smoke and are trying to quit. Some can do it cold turkey, others need to taper down. It depends on whether your smoking habit is primarily psychological or physical. Physical addiction in my opinion is sometimes easier to overcome in a short time than when you associate smoking with other things you enjoy. Then there are the 'triggers' --eating, drinking, and sometimes working...

I would not worry too much about that. Whatever method works for you is the one that will ultimately succeed. I tried EVERYTHING (except hypnosis) until I tried vaping...and the first time it didn't work! I smoke nearly 2 packs a day for more than 40 years. Started vaping at 2.4mgs...now down to .6mgs...and that's since 15 November last year!

Be proud of yourself...and don't let anything or anyone get in your way.

Today I had my latest experience with smoker trashing vaping and it was outside our medical centre I was coming out he was having a last ciggie before going in I took out my sx mini ready to have a puff when he said "keep using them and you'll need more medical help then this place can give you, they blow up so easily". I walked back to him and just said I smoked for over thirty years each year feeling worse and I switched to vaping just over three years ago and have felt better every year don't believe everything you see in the media look into it for himself. I didn't make the switch to vaping till I was ready and had someone tried to convince me before I was ready I'd have been defensive as well, everyone has to be ready to make a change and until they are it's just not going to work. Just because some of them express themselves with stupidity doesn't mean we have to be anything but polite in dealing with them as there by the grace of God go I.

"There are over 40,000 deaths a yr. from car accidents. You still drive a car don't you." :)

" You spend $x.xx state tax per pack of cigarettes and $1.01 tax per pack to the Fed.'s. Do really believe they want you to quit?" :)

"Pfizer's Chantix has killed well over 500 people. Pfizer settled a multi-million dollar class action law suit in 2014. The Fed.s still allow it to be sold." :)

I've found in life, it's better to focus on the positive, not the negative.
So better to help smokers quit with vape, than spend too much of your mind battling with misperceptions.

The proof is in the pudding, so better to spend your time making pudding than debating it.

I was discussing vaping with an appliance repairman just this afternoon. He is a HEAVY SMOKER but he is interested in vaping. During our discussion as he was repairing the washing machine when I told him what it costs for vaping supplies for a week that sure got his attention. I explained initial investment and maintenance but his exact words were............. So it is like buying a carton of smokes!

I've decided that from now on, I'm going to say that before I started vaping, I put in many many hours of research into it. Only when they have done the same thing, will they be qualified to discuss it with me.

I think this works better.

Fortunately I have only been approached by smokers who wanted to know about vaping but my son and his girl have asked me anytime they hear something bad about vaping if I knew about it, which is good so I have the opportunity to tell them the truth.

My mom is a lot like your dad as an ex-smoker that hates on smokers/smoking but she has been surprisingly accepting of my vaping :) when ever she decides to go on a rant about smoking, mainly to/around smokers, I kindly remind her that as a previous smoker of 40-50 years who only stopped because she had a heart attack... she lost the right to say anything about it at all. ;)
