Smoking Cessation or Alternative?

Smoking Cessation or Alternative?

  • I'm using the e-cig as a cessation product.

  • I intend to continue vaping 'til I can vape no more!

im getting my nic fix and im seriously amazed at how im not wanting an analog for the most part (since im a relative noob at this)...the price is appealing too, but if it gets approved by the fda and gets taxed up the @$$, id honestly pay more to get my nic and feel better rather than quit all together...i mean come on, its ok for a 9 year old to buy a triple strength energy drink? wheres the fda approval for the hundreds of energy drinks on the market?

a little story... we have two guys who make our SDs for us in our little factory..

both are/were medium to heavy smokers.. one smokes roll ups the other tailer mades..

both smoke the screwdriver... nether have any real desire to get off real tobacco.. they use both.. they like both...

if they didnt make screwdrivers they are the type of guys who would not even give e smoking a second thought..

not normal e smokers and because of this their opinion is interesting..

i sometimes dive into the roll up tobacco tin of one of them... he he

surround by e smoking devices... there sits the roll up tobacco tin.. it seems e cigs and real cigs can co-exist side by side... there dosnt have to be a self induced hatred of one to take up and use the other..

me... i can go days without a real cig and it dosnt bother me.. but will take one if offered or temped by the tobacco tin under my nose..

a roll up tobacco tin in the screwdriver factory.. make of this what you will... some might find it humorous... he he he

I didn't see the option to vote "both".

Once I took up vaping as an alternative to smoking, I no longer smoked. Therefore, my smoking has ceased.

On the other hand, I can no longer see cigarettes as an alternative to vaping. So I'm not sure how to define my position.

Eventually I think I would like to stop vaping, if only to get away from the day-to-day maintenance, cost and stress from worrying if they are to be banned.

I purposely didn't include a lot of different options in the poll including nicotine questions because I'm really interested in the overall use of the product. I don't really care about the legal definition of "intended use", I only know what my intended use is and was wondering what it is for others. Nothing says you can't vape and smoke. Hey, we're all about choice!

I'm not sure if I love the Smarties video or if I'm horrified by it.

I'm not sure if I love the Smarties video or if I'm horrified by it.

I picked that video because that kid just made me think of some of our video reviews... I mean he really did a pretty good job of what he did. and because he was entertaining. Also he does mention not to inhale, and explains that it hurts to inhale. So if some kid sees that one, atleast they hopefully wont try to inhale it.
On the other side. Its horrible because its CANDY.

On a side note, I've actually witnessed someone snort a pixie stick. In a HS classroom, with the teacher watching and aware of what was happening. Whole class was. I don't think the Teacher thought he was really going to do it.

Following something posted on another thread where a supplier stated that whether or not we want to admit it, our little devices are used as cessation for over 50% of people, I thought I'd resurrect this poll to try and get more contributors.

This thread firmly suggests that they are NOT being used as cessation, but as an alternative, and I, for one, would definitely prefer them to be classed as an 'alternative' rather than an NRT.

I chose Door #2. I inferred from the wording of #2 that what you REALLY meant by #1 was "nicotine cessation."

I am using the product to refrain from smoking tobacco, but it only works for me because it does NOT fit the FDA's profile of a "smoking cessation" product.

In March 1996, FDA denied the application for approval for flavored versions of Nicorette gum "based on inadequate data addressing the abuse liability of these products." In other words, FDA was afraid users would like the products too much and continue using them beyond the recommended weaning period. FDA will only approve products for smoking cessation that have as their goal the eventual complete elimination of nicotine use. If the product does not cure "nicotine addiction" it isn't a "smoking cessation" method, as far as FDA is concerned.

I have no desire to be cured of my nicotine addiction, because I can't afford to endanger my own life and others by trying to perform all my activities of daily living while being permanently inattentive and confused. My SIL came up with a good description of the sensation: "Brain Fog."

Interesting poll!

I love vaping and do not want to stop. I would, however, like others here, to get off the nic eventually. At least half of my smoking problem was the 'hand/mouth' thing. Vaping has that covered, and it also isn't a danger/irritation to others...second hand smoke, risk of fire, stinky smell and all that nasty crap has been completely eliminated by my vaping.

You'd have to pry my e-cig from my cold, dead hands :)

Finally we have a safer alternative. I think i would have smoked on my deathbed without e cigs. I wasn't only addicted to smoking... I really enjoyed it. I can't believe I'm saying this but analogs and e cigs aren't even comparable. Better tasting, more fun, cheaper, no second hand smoke, no smell, etc etc etc etc. A lifetime user? I'd bet on it.

I'm still a junior member and can't start threads...

So on another note, does anyone else agree this is very similar to smoking hookah? I always loved hookah tobacco flavors and wished there was some way to make it portable. IMO this is it. +nicotine. What else could you ask for?

I quit smoking 11 days ago using Chantix. I love smoking though!! I don't necessarily want to go back to the nicotine addiction. I ordered the starter pack of Blu because I want to see what it's like and I ordered the non-nicotine. Yeah, kind of like getting a non-fat, decaf latte... what's the point? ;-)

I want a cig with my coffee. I want a cig when I get up in the morning. I want a cig after a meal. Maybe this can get me through those times with just a taste of tobacco. I'm glad to know these things are out there if I ever back-slide and want the nicotine. My mother died of lung cancer and it's a horrible way to die. I don't want that for myself.

I accidentally quit smoking tobacco on Tuesday. Ordered my first ecig last week, a 901 off of Amazon. Won't be going back there at those prices, however by the weekend I had found this forum and read it for about 48 hours straight. By Monday I had ordered $150 or so in supplies. My 901 arrived and I charged the batteries and smoked two cigarettes that day. The next day I smoked one cigarette. Two days later and I haven't had another. I lit one on Wednesday and put it out. It didn't taste good, I plain didn't want it!

I live in the state with AG Nanny Kroger declaring war on ecigs, no local sales anywhere, but it appears that better deals are online even if there were a local ecig shop.

I LOVE the fact I no longer smell like an ashtray, nor do I taste like one. Hubby likes that, too. Vacuumed out the car today, cleaned the upholstery. Smelled nice. Took a drive with the grandson and VAPED. NO second hand smoke for ANYONE!

I am angry and appalled that this alternative is being brushed aside and even considered for banning. NO second hand smoke, NO tobacco, NO nasty cigarette butts.

I cannot imagine going back to analog. Its funny to think a week ago I was smoking stinky cigs, huddled outside (look where I live) dodging rain drops and wind. Vaping indoors, nice smells, great flavors, cough going away, chest no longer hurting. AND my grandmother died from Parkinson's related complications, my dad has Parkinson's and nicotine may prevent it. Nanny Kroger and the FDA better stay away.
