So I use my GTUS, Z Atty P and DID on a daily basis (+ the Penelope that's all I use lately)

The units that run on SS mesh (first three) will be running PERFECTLY on my provari, no shorts, stable ohms, ohms with and without the wick are identical, etc

Screw one on to the Vmax, and "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" high pitched whining sound. Take the top cap off, and behold, I have a short (hot spots at the top and bottom run off the wick).

Keep hiting the button, straight up F2 or F1.

Return to the Provari, issue vanishes.

In essence, if not literally, the Vmax 'creates' shorts on my RBAs

Perhaps the 8.4V spikes create a situation where the current is so high (albeit instantaneously) that instead of taking the path of 'least resistance' through the coil (vs. the hopefully 'infinite' resistance of the outer oxidized layer of the mesh) it actually flows through everything ---> short? Not an electrical man, so please, bear with me lol

I've long suspected the high PWM spikes in the vmax may increase sensitivity to shorts with my DID, but don't have the technical background for a proper conclusion. It seemed more difficult for me to eliminate shorts and hot spots than many in the DID forum were reporting with their experiences. Eventually I got it and it's running perfectly now but the road there was not what I'd call smooth.

WOW, anyone but you CV and I would just lurk and wait for the fog to clear. The buzzing I get but the induced shorts that clear with a VR PV, well that’s just weird. I do PWM and we get EMI and harmonics (maybe low enough freq to hear) and a skin effect is just a little more likely than the flux capacitance factor. There could be a capacitor like effect between the SS and coil that wouldn’t effect “real” DC but dose a PWM DC but we could go on like this forever. Your BUZZ work, it should?

well, riddle me this

No one is more ready to call bulshyte on myself than I, call it a consequence of an OCPD personality in the medical field who probably should have remained a philosopher

I just took the DID which has been running perfectly for a week at 1.6 ohms (measured pre and post wick multiple times), threw it on the Vmax.

The second I hit the button I smelled roasted metal and juice (this is at 3 volts, on the Provari I've been running this coil at 3.9-4.2)

And voila, F1. Hit the button again. F1. Again. F1.

Put it back on the Provari, checked my ohms. 1.2 ohms.

Tipped it up side down to soak the coil and fired a few times. Gently wiggled the wick.

Re checked ohms. 1.6. Back to perfect vaping.

w....t....f lol

And Cyrus you are absolutely right! I get the same invasion of bee's buzzing with both PWM mod's that I own. I have a Roughstack with a under load at 3.4v and will vape like heaven with a 1.5ohm coil in my DID. I try it on the Vmax, and I get the same exact results. Burning dry hit nastiness. No matter how much juice is on my coil. I even added 2 drops directly on the coil.

Hey Cyrus how do you like your GTUS ? I've got 1 ....put it together flawlessly and never really even used it.

Guess I should put it on the classies ??

Make higher resistance coils... 1.6 is too low for the raw VMax power. It will always display F1 error if it's 1.2 ohms or lower.

Been using the Max since may and I figured right away the powah it dished out;I never dared putting low res stuff on it.

All the atties I ever used on it was at 2.6 for the lowest and even then, some atties at that figure likes 3V,no more...others like more V.

This is why they are VARIABLE VOLTAGE.

Stop dissin` my beloved.

Some people don't know how to handle such a high powered PV :)

J I love the thing. I drilled the hole out and destroyed the ego spike with help from my buddy quigsworth :) I'm currently running it with a double wide wick 270 mesh and I can't get a dry hit out of it if I'm trying

Its a more mellow vape than the top coils and penny, but I still reach for it 20% of the time or so. Wicking and vapor are top notch IMO.

Put it this way, first thing the morning I go for the top coils or penny, but after dinner its usually GTUS time ;)

The Vmax needs 2.6 ohm or higher coils. It is what it is. If you're going to use a LR coil, you might as well vape barbecue sauce.

I have gone from 1.2-4.0, unfortunately it doesn't seem to matter. I have a 50/50 shot of getting the dreaded above scenario everytime.

And maybe its too low, but I haven't heard any complaints from my .357s and IO6s. 1.5-3.5 they all get along. I just mind my voltage.

I'm aware of what an F1 is my friend, but thank you. The point is its a 1.6 ohm coil until it kisses the vmax. Then it becomes short circuit. Kind of a bummer.

I'm not dissing anything, I love the Vmax and have been using it with my penelope all day.

What makes these PVs great is not simply that they're VV. And yes I'm aware they are "VARIABLE VOLTAGE." Curious, are you yelling?

Its an issue that's popping up with certain atomizer units, hence we're discussing it.

And controlling for watts I personally get better performance out of a SS mesh set up when the ohms are lower, hence I do what I do. Cartomizers and atomizers are perhaps a different story.
