Something to think about for all you rebuildable users. The center post of the zmax seems to be made of a soft metal. My Phoenix clone is tearing it up, so a 510 to 510 adapter is something you guys might want to consider.

Good to know. I also use 510/510 adapters to protect the threads of my devices and for more airflow with carto tanks.

After about a month of heavy use with my v2 zmax have run into a few issues, all dealing with build quality. The screen cover is cracked for one. This happened when it fell over on the table it was sitting on. The pcb has gotten loose inside it, from time to time the screen cover starts to pop out a bit, and the button becomes wobbly. It still works, but the long durability doesn't look good...

I still have a first run V1 VMax that has no durability issues at all. Everything looks as flawless as it did the day I got it. So they can indeed be just as durable as a Provari...some are some aint....the price we have to pay for mass produced products. I use this V1 VMax every day also because I'm one of the ones that just loved the original beast.

I fell off the wagon when due to loss of job and home (thank God for family for taking us in) then eventually money, I had to quit vaping as I could not afford to replace equipment and juice. I was clean for 2 years. Been collecting recylables for anaolg funds and I hate myself for smoking. I just got 5 days of work for the first time in over a year, and it gave me enough cash to buy Christmas presents for the family and a ZMax2 for myself. It should be in by Monday and I can't wait. I was totally blown away when my wife gave the go ahead to buy it. She is one of those 1-2 analogs per day and misses me having (her pet name for it) a "smoky thingy" around the house.

Please Mr Mailman don't be late.

Optimo sir both my v2 vmax was in great condition before I gave it away to a happy new home, it survived a few drops and being taken out of the house. Can't say the same for either zmax, my v1 screen cracked the same exact way, and the v2 has been used heavier and it shows. It hasn't survived half as well as the vmax did...

I do have to say that my one complaint with the cosmetics has to do with the chrome version. If you get a little bit of juice on your finger and forget to wipe it off it will tarnish the chrome. I spent 1/2 and hour with some mother's polish and it won't buff out. It's there permanently.

Anyone have this experience with the SS model? The SS model sold out on madvapes a few hours before I placed my order. :(

Hmm...maybe they tried to cut some corners with the ZMax. The ZMax V1 that I have does have a sunk in screen cover.

The SS versions of both V and Z Max are far better than the chrome imo.

I bought a zmax on sept. 14 2012 about 3 months ago. with the understanding that it came with a 6 month warranty. well the center post at the top where you would thread your vivi nova in (or whatever you would use) snapped off and the positive wire came off as well. Now I cant even get the store i bought it from online to call me back and I am just wondering how or who i need to get a hold of for a warranty claim. I paid $120 for this and it only lasted me 3 months not very happy. I went to smoktech website and sent emails and inquiries with no response so far.

Who was the vendor? My dad wants a zmax too and I found a vendor that has a warranty. I'm hoping it's not the same place you got it from.

I just thought I'd drop in here tell about all the things that have gone wrong on my SS V2 Z. Nothing, no problem what so ever, it hasn't missed a beat, maybe I'm just lucky but my V1 Vmax is also in fine working condition.

Ditto that!!! Well..............I did send the spring in the end cap flying, never to be seen again........ordered an extension cap and all is well with both my V1 and V2 :D

Anyone else having problems with the 510 connection threads on their Zmax?

Not a serious issue, but it appears either my threads are wearing out, or where improperly machined in the first place. Everything I've tried on it screws in perfectly fine, but is very wobbly while screwing it down. A few cartotanks I've thrown on it even wobble a little bit when it's tightened down all the way, but these are carto tanks without the locking ring so the tank spins free on the carto, meaning I can't really tighten it down "all" the way.

A few even sit slightly crooked (maybe by 2-3 degrees, really only noticeable by rolling the Zmax on a flat surface and observing the carto) and then when you try to straighten out the carto it kind of clicks into position, as is then perfectly straight up-and-down.

I can't remember this happening when I first got the thing, but as I said it's fairly hard to notice unless you are looking for it, which I wasn't before. I never cross-threaded anything onto it, at least I never got that typical feeling you get when you are about to cross thread something, just normal, smooth, easy screwing down of the carto. So I don't think I cross threaded it...

Which leaves either badly threaded cartos (ST XL tank cartos, so it's possible..) improper machining from the factory, soft metal which is wearing out, or perhaps I had it in my pocket with something on top, which torqued the threads a bit perhaps. Phsyically inspecting the threads reveal no metal shavings, obvious damaged threads, or anything like that, so I'm kind of at a loss right now.

Like I said, it's not a major issue, it's been working perfectly, and you can barely tell that the carto isn't on straight, but it's bugging me.

Anyone else experince anything similar? Mind checking out your maxes to confirm? I know a guy earlier in this thread said he couldn't get some stuff to thread into his max, but out of 30 or so different cartos, attys, tanks, etc that I've used on it, not a single one failed to thread or fire.

For some reason I'm constantly getting juice all over EVERYTHING and my SS max is holding up perfect. A few scratches here and there from being in the pocket with keys, knives, and change, but nothing severe. And definitely no effect from juice getting on it.

That's good to hear. Mine is starting to look terrible. The chrome is completely gone around the button and it's wearing off all around the center of the unit. It still vapes like a champ. I'm definitely going to order the SS though.

That's totally unnacceptable. I'm a little disappointed in Smoktech's quality if the Chrome is that bad. Chrome finish SHOULD be pretty darn tuff, not rubbing off and getting removed by ejuice. I'm curious if it's even REAL chrome plating and not just some other sort of similar looking finish.

For instance, my Vision Eternity atty is Chrome plated. Obviously because it's an Atty it's got juice all over it. Yet zero issues with the juice affecting the Chrome.

I wonder if you busted Smoktech using some inferior chrome-like finish. My Eternity has been on my Zmax for all its pocket rides, and it is LESS affected by scrapes and bumps than the stainless of my max.

Your chrome sounds like the "gunmetal" Vamo I have. I baby this thing because i heard it's finish is weak. It sits upright on my table, I've only had it around a week, and it's already got finish wear. What the hell, right?

You know what I want? A steel zmax (or vamo) with Tenifer coating and the same crinkle finish as Glock slides. Now THAT'S a "gunmetal" finish ;) It would also be the best "manly PV" in the "show off your manly PV" tread.

Now I'm thinking of old school case hardened PVs. Those would be some nifty looking PVs as they develop wear.

For those who don't know what worn case hardened firearms look like:

I have two of the gunmetals, one of which has a tiny scrape on the end cap due to a serious sidewalk dive I took while walking my crazy beagle. I use them when I'm cooking, when I'm cleaning, non-stop all day every day. I get liquid and a lot more on them on a regular basis. Once I rub off the fingerprints the finish on both is fine (but not museum quality) which is kind of amazing. When I bought the first I was in a planning stage coop for the ss Segelei clone which was looking sort of iffy. I almost didn't buy the first one because there were so many prophesies of doom and failure on the forum but when Madvapes put them on sale I decided to take the chance. I am more than pleased with it, enough to have bought a second. The Segelei is nice too. (and great, wonderful price) I wanted a Provari so badly until I got the Z and I do think they are things of beauty and all that- but 3 Zs for the price of one P, with change left over, has left me more than content. Variable wattage is for me a seriously nice thing..I could (I did) live without it but why should I? I get excellent vape time from them even though I am a chain vaper. They don't look hideous. They can survive beagle moshing and house cleaning, and I don't feel nervous about using them as I would with something that had a price tag like the Provari. If my life was much different (read:if I had a megasomethington of money) I'd have a whole cabinet full of beautiful expensive mods, with perfect finished and matching one of a kind attys and tanks and tips. I'd still have to buy a zmax or a twist or something I could actually use in my adhd daily life though. ;->
