Well, today was the moment of truth when I measured the voltage drop of the SS against the Copper. As should be the norm, the same battery and atomizer was used with each mod during each test. Battery is a VTC5 that has only been charged twice since new, atomizer is a Plumeveil V1.5 clone deck with triple twisted 26G at .15 ohms.

Copper SMPL
Standing battery voltage - 4.16v
Loaded mod voltage - 3.66v
Overall voltage drop - 0.50v @ .15 ohms

Stainless SMPL
Standing battery voltage - 4.14v
Loaded mod voltage - 3.60
Overall voltage drop - 0.54v @ .15 ohms

I'm happy with the results but I can't say I'm surprised, I used the SS and copper side by side for an entire day to gauge how well each one worked and they were almost identical. Even looking at the numbers the SS is only fractions lower even at supersubohm level resistances. Now that I've confirmed what I had hoped I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the brass SMPL as well. Can't wait for the Trio to be together in my hands! :D :D :D

Presumably, voltage drop would be smaller in a setup with a higher resistance coil, correct?

Absolutely, that is why I specifically state the resistance that I measured the drop with. At .15 ohms having a .5V drop is pretty badass IMO, even my heavy thick walled copper Hybrid Panzer doesn't perform that well, though it is very close.

Nice! Just wanted to make sure I understood the implications correctly. I'm still rockin' the brass SMPL with a KFL+ at 1.34R. It needs a good cleaning, but my snap ring pliers aren't here yet.

Hey guys I have a question. Bought another SMPL mod. However this one I just bought has the V1 switch which is ok, it checks out because it was bought 3 or so months ago. However, the engraving on the button is different and the tube it came in is different too. A much skinner tube with a label saying #theSMPLmod instead of printed on the tube like on my known authentic V2 switch. The engravings also seem much shallower than my V2. I'll attach pics but can anyone help me? Don't really want to call someone out on it and be wrong.

Also notice the M is thicker on the authentic V2

I'm not sure these guys will ever make anything but an 18650, I've been bugging them for months, and when I got a note from them it said..."everyone uses 18650's". The frustrating issue for me is their Facebook posts that show all three metals in 18350 attached to a post that says, "available tomorrow at VaporLair", why the hell would you post a picture of 18350's when they've never been available. Epic "fail" Design studios advertising.

I was told the 18500 and 350 tubes would be an optional accessory, so IF they ever make these tubes you'll have to buy a $120 switch that will come with an 18650 tube you'll never use, again...Epic fail IMO.

I don't even think I'd use it but when/if 18350 tubes become available I'll probably buy all three just to have them, depending on price of course.

I think it would be nice to see a "whole kit" offered as an option for say...$180ish that had all three tubes and one switch included but I doubt they'll ever do that. To be honest a 48mm tall 18350 is too small for my hands, but something about me still likes really small compact mods that I may or may not ever use. I wouldn't pay more than $40 for the 350 tube by itself though, if they ever come to be sold.

I think their $120 price point is much more attractive for many people that want an authentic mod, to pay $180 for a mod supplied with a tube you'd never use, in my case the 18650...just doesn't make sense to me, if they just sold them in all sizes individually IMO they'd sell many more, I would have purchased one long ago If they were available in my desired sizes. For the modder to say everyone uses 18650's is very narrow minded.

It's refreshing to see a completely different point of view brought to the table! I completely agree with all points you've made.

I never really understood the three tube thing to begin with, I'd be willing to bet, if asked, how many three tube mod buyers actually use more than one...betcha the percentage is pretty low...that said, why don't these three tube modders just sell you the size you want and lower the price accordingly...at a lower price point they would likely sell more units, JMO.

Loving my SMPL, I haven't put it down since I got it. The switch was a little stiff for my liking, so I took it apart, cleaned it, and torched the spring. Now I can easily fire it with my pinky. I like it so much I think I'll buy a brass one when I have some extra cash. Thanks everyone for your suggestions

So got a chance to fire this up last night. Put my Mutation X V1 on it, .3 ohm 24g vertical build.

I'm going to go ahead and compare this mod to my Nanos Sleek since the two look so much alike and are almost the same size. I really dig my Nanos. Rhodium contacts.....awesome switch....it hits great, with a freshly charged battery. And that is the downside of the Nanos. Once you get a few puffs off it, performance drops dramatically.

Now, this Mutation X I'm rocking on my SMPL came right off the Nanos. This, I figured, would give me an apples to apples comparison.

The SMPL does NOT suffer the same issue as the Nanos. The hits are consistent all the way through. I'm sure this is due to it being a hybrid, vs the Nanos which has a top cap with contact pins. That said, I've got other mods with top caps and contact pins that do not have the same issue. And theirs aren't rhodium.

The switch on the SMPL is a little stiff, but I'm sure it will loosen up in time.

And while we are on the subject of the switch.... I dropped by my local B&M last night, where a few of the guys have been rocking SMPL mods for a while. We noticed a slight difference between theirs and mine. The contact point on their switches are straight flat, while mine is cupped. After struggling a bit to figure out why, it came to one of their builders. Nipple top batteries. With the old design you could not run nipple top batteries without the switch protruding from the base of the mod. With the new cupped design it allows for just that tiny bit of space you need. Genius in design.

All in all I'm liking this mod quite a lot. I'm thinking it may take the place of my 4 Nine as my "go everywhere" mech, since I wouldn't have to fuss with loose magnets any longer. Now that is an idea! :vapor:
