Ok....time for what is possibly a stupid question (but you know what they say). I have, and have had, quite a few mech mods. But none with direct atomizer/battery contact like the 4Nine and SMPL among others. The SMPL really appeals to me but I am curious about several things. Will it work with button as well as flat top batteries? I have read this is for experienced users only as you may get a short in the battery. Please explain, because I am kind of dense ;) I love the plain look and that it is Made in USA, just curious about any drawbacks, disadvantages, etc. So please educate me. If this has been addressed and thoroughly explained elsewhere I do apologize. A very Happy Thanksgiving to all and may you spend it with friends and family.
I switch between a KFL+v2 and a veritas (both authentic) as toppers. Ive only run flat tops in mine, because the switch is barely recessed. If I used a button top, it would make the switch stick out.

Don't get that logic at all.

The area that needs the most service (the switch) is the area that needs to be removable. There is no service needed at the top aside from what's already easily accessible. If I couldn't service an area prone to oxidation like all mods are, I would avoid the design like the plague.

The switch on the 4nine drops in and is 100% serviceable and accessible - as are all other parts, which are individually replaceable.

I'm not advocating a more complicated design simply to improve serviceability, but in my mind that design would make more sense.

I've tried the clone of the SMPL and prefer it to the 4Nine -- Have a SS Male Tarsius genuine and like it very much, but a friend's Infinite clone is pretty sweet. Ordered a SS SMPL from Vape Lair on Thanksgiving so I'll be able to give a full report on what I think soon after using it a bit. The Media Blasted version looks pretty cool as well, but I can polish any pocket scratches out of the regular ol' SS. Probably will be toting the SMPL around with an Atlantis tank for work instead of the usual 4Nine and Kayfun.....

How are you guys cleaning your threads? I've got the snap ring pliers to get at the inside of the switch, but seems like I can't get the threads fully clean with Never-dull. I was thinking never-dull + soft toothbrush. Any thoughts?

it actually looks great!

Thanks. I like that avatar by the way. So much misinformation out there it was cool to see a pic of a test jig from someone who actually understands what voltage drop is, and what the baseline setup should look like before you can go making blanket statements about "x mod" having a voltage drop of "x volts".

Pipe cleaners are gold when cleaning out small spaces (I get the kind that don't have the metal barbs so they wont scratch). I'll take one and cut it into three pieces, twist them together, then put on the cleaning solution then repeat the process with set slightly damp with water, then end with a paper towel cut into a strip, twisted so it gets all the moisture out of the threads. Is the copper that much harder hitting than the SS version? I saw that Vapor Lair is already sold out of the copper as of today, but they still have the brass, media blasted, and SS.

So basically just make sure the RDA I use on the SMPL has a portuding pin to make contact with the positive of the battery, otherwise a short is possible? Will I have problems with my Tugboat RDA's?
I would say that is a definite. And you shouldnt have a problem with any rda as long as the pin sticks out past the threading or insulator. I use the tugboat v1 all the time on my smpl copper and stainless, works great, the pin doesnt stick out as far as say the tobh does but its enough so you should be good to go.

If you fire the mod without an atty, wouldn't that short out the mod? I'm curious, because I have a 4Nine mod, and it has delrin underneath the hybrid top cap, I've been told that prevents the mod from shorting out if you fire it without an atty.
Ive always thought the same thing myself, and ive heard people talk about it before but to be honest im not sure. Hopefully someone else has more knowledge on that.

I understand the question, but I'm not sure why anyone would do that? The switch on the SMPL is pretty stiff, so I don't see it happening on accident....

No, the top section is machined into a slight dome internally which does not allow the battery positive to come in contact with the body of the mod.
