ASUS is a fairly well respected MOBO maker (?China or Taiwan or ?).
Levono is well known too (China computer maker, been in business a while) and acquired IBM's personal computer business in 2005, including the ThinkPad laptop and tablet lines.

I'm using an ASUS board now, for example.

asus has earned quite a bit of respect - but when it comes to specs the main point is - what is your main requirement!

What, you want her to get a Raspberry-PI for $40.00?

Unless I miss my guess, Fran and her DH are...not fond of "flimsy". Nor fond of under-powered. That doesn't mean she needs a lot. The $200-ish computer will work.

I want to know
1) If the old one died for real
2) If so, why? May be wise to get surge suppression and power conditioner...regardless of what unit she buys...for example. Maybe she has one, IDK.

Surge suppressor for sure, but a power conditioner might be a bit much (though i'd like to have on on my electrophysiology rigs)

cats chewing cables could be a possibility.

If you took up hunting, you could make us some duck waffles for breakfast :)

Duck waffles? Is that like Chicken and Waffles only with Duck?
More detail please!

I forgot to mention cats chewing on ethernet cables........... ;) Just a possibility.

I have two cats and they get into everything, but I have never had a problem with them chewing on cables. This is very surprising to me because one of my cats in particular is very bad.

Pretty much. I can't find an appetizing picture....but that may just be because it's still too early to think about breakfast.

It's an entire enterprise! Named after that dish.... ;) Good find CES. Where did you hear of it?
That blog review was good.

The enterprise looks well done, and so did the duck. :)
Gives me a better impression of "British Cooking"...whose reputation has suffered, even here in the states (AKA Pizza Central).

I had duck waffles for brunch at a local restaurant once, Atty. It was done differently- pieces of duck meat in sauce on waffles (it was really, really good), not just a big honking (no pun intended) leg flopped down on a waffle. Still probably tastes wonderful, but isn't a pretty photograph.
