Well Bear, it's hard to tell from your posts that you're enthusiastic about it. Glad to hear it.

I really don't want to belabor this here in Snails, so will try to make this short.

It's complete "serendipity" (man, I loathe that word) that I am in a VERY unique position to play the system. While I'm sure there are others doing the same, it's a very slim sliver of the ACA population. I share the how-to-do it (and my dollar results) with others in hope they ccan manage the same scenario. The truth is I've found nobody else who can do it and every one of those folks ended up in a worse financial situation (re: premiums PLUS deductible PLUS co-pays and co-insurance).

Moving to single payer is going to be a HUGE battle and one that will take decades to accomplish. We're talking multi-billion dollar industries (insurance companies, medical supply manufacturers and health care providers) who will fight with every fiber to keep it from happening. Too much at stake. So, with that, paying more now for something that is not guaranteed/promised by "X" date is something I am unable to get behind.

Yes... I made out and am happy about it. Still, in my gut, I wish things were just left alone. Guess I'm just a status quo type person. Predictability and stability have a very real value to me. That's why I'm in the same home since '77... I partner for the LONG haul... I schedule and plan in advance and am NOT at all spontaneous.

... around here silver plans still carry deductibles ...

Tibs (in case you're dealing with ACA, I still don't know)... There are ("may be" in your state) silver-level plans which are "hidden" and only pop up if you are eligible for "cost sharing reduction (CSR)". You'd have to really dig in and look. Those are the ones with low low deductibles and annual OOP costs. They are not advertised at all. My financial guy and I then planned how to qualify for coverage under one of THOSE plans. Not everybody can do it, granted. But it may be worth a look and seeing if you can swing it.

ETA:
Those "hidden" plans are ONLY available in the silver level.

Disclaimer:
NY as far as I know. Other states may not have them. But it's still worth digging.

Birmingham, Al
i wish there was a good answer for the insurance questions, but as long as there's lots of money to by made by big businesses that don't give a :censored: about actual people then i don't see it getting better.

I don't actually care about the political labels that the predators are given...the meanings of those labels change over time ( I feel like we're living in Orwell's 1984) , and are used to keep people from researching, thinking and acting. And there are very few non-predatory politicians, ideologues, or businesses on either side of the manufactured divide.

If you are into candles, I'm told one of the best smelling is from Bath & Body Works, Pumpkin Pecan Waffles. I ordered one yesterday off of amazon as a gift for my mom for Christmas. I think I am going to give it to her on Thanksgiving Day because I can't wait until Christmas to find out how good it smells.:)
