Hey guys. Since there are clearly a bunch of techies around here, I was wondering if one of you could help me with a computer problem I'm having. My darling daughter downloaded a movie from a bootleg site a while back and apparently a virus with it. So now I am getting pop ups like crazy and sometimes a new tab will open up when I click on something - even if it's not a link. Any ideas on how I can get rid of this? I have Windows Defender so I thought that would protect my laptop...
Windows Defender is minimal.
You're in trouble.
Don't do any banking or use Credit Cards on it right now.

no anti-virus program catches all - look for malwarebytes online, it's free

Atty - I've already explained to DD. It has been going on for a while. I usually do my online banking and such at work. Thanks for the info to both you and Tibs!
Malwarebytes has a free version, and it's good.

I have Malwarebytes Premium (not the free version) and it's been excellent. But I hear that the free version is good too--just doesn't do as much and doesn't continuously monitor your computer.
