Maybe more tomorrow... nothing on the urgent to-do list. But definitely when the hibiscus
("dinner plate") bloom... and the Rose Of Sharons (which are also in the hibiscus family).

There's a jar of (old) bacon fat in the fridge... but I'm scared to open it and look at
the top :shock:. I'll just use butter... a clove of garlic... ground pepper.

just looked that up the other day - bacon grease will last 4 to 6 months in the fridge ;) on the counter about 3 weeks

I rarely (I mean really rarely...like a few times in my life) have used bacon fat rather than substituting a better fat in a dish. There are times you want that extra bacon flavor and use a teaspoon or two in a dish, but mostly not. I'd rather substitute a lighter fat. I remember the "old days" when you could fry an egg in the bacon renderings for eggs and bacon. These days I don't fry egg that way anyway (and I usually use egg-beaters).
