They are being cautious with what they learned throughout the Shuttle program (rightfully so IMO).

As they should be, sure. It's just such a letdown. :/ But as you say, not exactly unexpected.

Still, I'm pumped about all the possibilities the Artemis/SLS program has in store for the future. Learn how to live on the south pole of the Moon. Then launch to Mars from the orbiting Moon station. What's not to like.

Yeah, makes total sense.
