We have a $20 per month dumb-phone emergency type of cell phone, was handy when the internet went down. But other than that, yeah, I'm like you, I don't use cell phones. Guess I'm old, or just don't care about the damn things. They're handy for some things, but mostly I don't care, I have a desktop or if I'm away, I'm just not on the net.

Sometimes having google maps or something would be helpful. Other than that, meh.

But it's something for you to consider, since some plans are cheap and IDK what your current e-phone cost is.
Current company is NOW $37 a month, up from 25 because I canceled tv. But, the other voips are listed above. A substantial savings. Marsha loves the landline, for some reason, so I don't think I can get away with dumping it, so if I can find a really good deal, I'll be happy. I just HATE how the cable companies have you over a barrel unless you really do your research and find some deals that are worthwhile.

The other thing people do, particularly if they use mostly-internet stuff, is play multiple companies against each other.

So if there's a competing cable company service to you, you can get their $xx per month deal, and then switch to the other one two years from now and average out the savings.

Or just tell your current provider that you're switching over and they offered you ___ per month with a ___ contract, and see if they'll meet the price.

Our cable company has the monopoly in this area. Have for about 50 years. The local landline company is the only competition and they are horrible all the way around. When I called to cancel, they offered me a lower price with almost NOTHING....bare bones and STILL would have been $90.

And I STILL have you beat. We are such talkers, aren't we....We be lovers, not talkers!!!:wub:
My plan, when I finally upgraded to a "smart"phone (oxymoron)
was to dump the landline. But I've never had any calls where the
clarity of a landline happened. And, I've tried friends' cells with
no better results, actually. They ALL have that really annoying
thing of "dead silence" coming through as YOU talk. And if both
parties are trying to talk at the same time, it gets really
maddening. (Propriety DOES say one person speaks at a time,
but I don't want it forced upon me.)

And if I make a call from within the car (NOT WHILE DRIVING),
my end of the conversation echoes. THEY do not hear it, but
    I do.

    It's all such crap. Really.

Happy Valentine's Day one and all. Even though we don't celebrate. Love is supposed to be every day!! It is in this house

    :D

We just do cards and boxes of cheap chocolate.

But, I'll be sneaky this year. My "job" is to time arriving home with a
pizza (NO CHAIN PLACES) just as he arrives home from work. I may
even order a dozen wings to go-with.

Oooo! Less than 1 month before "#25".

I have internet only, plus my apt building has a strong antenna. My Cable company has a tolerable price for internet only, but they are not happy about it. I use Magic Jack for phone, so that is like $50 a year. I have Prime, so that gets me a lot of TV, and Acorn, because I can't break my addiction to British mysteries. All In all, once I got used to it, a nice media package for minimal $$.

And I don't have a cellphone, just can't get them to work right with my hearing aids.

    I hear ya, Mary. ;)

Gracie, so good to hear from you!!! :)

Well, cable is gone, Hulu hooked up to 2 tvs and I"m a happy camper. Took all their equipment back, ordered a new voip, which will take up to 2 weeks to get going, then I can cancel cable phone, too, and save another $30. YES. Thank you ALL for your help. I'm sure I was a pain in the ...., but I appreciate y'all, as usual...

Good evening and goodnight Snails. Sleep well, sweet dreams and a better tomorrow for all :)
