I've been looking at carto-tanks for a while now and I'm wondering if I even need one. I already use 3 ml cartomizers on both my Echo and my X2. It seems to me the biggest benefit of a carto-tank is holding more liquid, but I rarely vape more than 2-3 ml a day anyway. Is the flavor much improved in a carto-tank versus a regular carto? Keep in mind I'm not using VV. The lowest ohm I would use might be 2.5 on a 3.7 v device, though I generally stay closer to the 2.8-3.0 ohm range.

Also, being an 808 user I'd need to punch my own cartos. Do most/all tanks use standard sized cartos? Are there any tanks I should avoid? I know IBTanked is considered top of the line, but I'm not looking to make that big of an investment up front for something I may not like in the future.

Mods, I placed this here for faster response. I hope that is acceptable.

Hi!
I think the best and most inexpensive tanks can be found here:

Welcome to Valley View Vapes - Your Home for Quality Inexpensive Tanks and Vaping Supplies

They have a large range of tanks, including glass and plastic that will not crack from certain juices....

I love using tanks as they keep the carto wet. Even if you don't vape a whole lot in one day, they will keep your juice ready and waiting for you.... I do believe they are all 510, so you would need an adaptor....

The other tanks that are good are the Boge F16's. They have free shipping, so it is not cost prohibitive to try them out:

Again, they are 510's.... The Kanger T3's and vivi nova tanks are also great, but they don't use cartos. I would also suggest trying those if you are open to not using cartos...

I think whether or not it's "better" than just cartomizers on their own is subjective. I personally prefer carto tanks for several reasons, but I like a good EMSCC if I can get one (the 3ml. cartomizer made by Smoktech...non dual coil.) Mostly prefer the tanks, though. It does seem to me that the flavor and vapor is a bit more consistently excellent. But YMMV.

You can get a carto tank like the Smoktech or Boge F16 and be fine. You don't have to buy Pyrex or high dollar, if you don't want to invest that much right out of the gate. If you vape things like citrus, banana or cinnamon, however...avoid the polycarbonite tanks as they might crack (they are the ones with the pretty, clear plastic tubes). If you vape mostly just tobacco, menthol or stuff that isn't "acidic" then you'll be fine with them. If you do vape the acidic juice then you need to look for POLYPROPYLENE tanks. Most of them are labeled "DCT" (dual coil tank) and come with dual coil cartomizers...but you can use single coil 808's in them just fine. Most of the carto tanks will come made for 510, but the tubes and end caps themselves can be transferred to the 808 carto...and you can gauge where to put the holes from the carto that comes with the DCT. Just put your holes 1/2 to 1mm higher than the pre-punched one you get with the tank. And don't punch the hole too big!!!! Keep it as close to a "pin hole" as you can! You can add another hole or two if you need it for thicker juice.

Not positive, but I think the peppermint ice might crack those f16 and dct tanks! In that case, you would definitely want one from valley view. They have an info thread and also a weekly contest thread on here as they give away a free tank every week....

The other thing is that I find that not all batteries can power dual coil cartos. That is why I recommended the boge f16, as it is single coil. The dual coils will also drain your batteries faster....

You may be right. But I DIY my menthol juice and use peppermint flavoring AND Koolada in it...and use polycarbon and polypro tanks with no issues. I did order a Triple V tank last Friday though...I really like the idea of the side fill hole! Talk about EASY!~

The side fill holes are great! You do need to use a needle tip or something similar to fill with, though..... I have one and I totally love it! I am going to buy more soon!

To echo a few comments already here... to me, the biggest advantage to carto tanks is keeping the carto wet. Less chance of that singed kitten flavor. Then there is the connivence of refilling. Regardless of side fill (my preference) or sliding the carto down... fill it up and there's no need to top off every 20 hits.

These days I use polypro tanks exclusively. Just takes the worry of what juice will crack a tank or not out of the equation.

You never know, it might not have been reported yet, but it appears that peppermint ice is safe to use in polycarbonate.

Any normal diameter cartomizer, whether it is single or dual coil, 510 or 808 threaded, will fit and work in a cartotank. All that must be made certain of is the length of cartomizer must match the length of the tank. Tanks and cartos will be either a 35mm or 45mm length. The diameter of the tank matters only in the aesthetics of how it will look on your battery device.

It's my belief that a single coil will work best with an mini-battery or eGo battery. I have found that the dual coils will drain a battery faster than a single coil will.

It seems like a lot of problems people are encountering with their first experience with carto-tanks are 1) not properly priming the carto first, and/or 2) refilling it wrong once their tank gets a little low for the first time (taking off the top cap to refill, then pushing it back on, spilling juice while refilling, cartos sliding.) These remedies can be easily fixed with minimal effort.

Seriously, PM Baditude if you have serious questions. That man knows his blank.
