I live in Cali, and we are hard against smoking. Flavor cigarettes, cloves, cigars are banned because "of the children". There's a bill to ban e-cigs because "of the children", and other reasons. Last week I went to City-Walk in LA, and saw this in the chocolate shop there. I don't care myself, I feel parents need to be in control of their kids to teach them, and let people make their own choices in life, but how fair is this?
I mean "we" ban flavor cigarettes, cloves, cigars because "of the children", but sweet shops can sell chocolate cigarettes to anybody? Is it me or is there something amiss?
I find it ironic and unfair, and makes no cents to me.

(mods; This might not be news, but is in theme with what's going on in the news. Move if it needs to be)

Yeah I thought they outlawed those a long time ago for the very reason that it makes kids grow up and smoke. I used to fake smoke those candy things all the time when I was a kid. Who knows if that laid somewhere in my subconcious when I got older and picked up real smoking.

Definitely ironic, but honestly how often is something the government does not ironic? :sneaky:

California has ........ up for legalization on the November ballot (not that I object, nor am I a user) but yet they continue to draft up bills that ban E-cigs.

Speaking of irony, there is one flavor of e-liquid I use that my 9 year old daughter is most envious: Pina Colada. Seeing how that flavor is named after an alcoholic beverage, is that marketing to kids or not? I haven't figured out of my coffee and energy drink flavors are for kids yet, either. I guess I'm just a silly rabbit.

Obviously it really boils down to being a responsible parent and educating your children. I sent a long letter to the person responsible for SB 882 here in California. Here's an excerpt from my letter which I felt was extremely poignant.

"When you make something illegal, you give up all control. If electronics cigarettes are made illegal and a black market forms, I strongly doubt those involved will be asking for I.D."

I recieved this response back from Anthony Valdez (the Legislative Aide in charge of SB 882 for Senator Corbett).

"Thank you for the insight. I will take your comments into consideration. If you are a constituent, and would like to provide an address, the Senator would be pleased to respond."

It was nice to be acknowledged, I never thought I would receive a response. It gives me a little bit of hope. But at the same time I'm sure Arnold will simply veto the bill if it shows up on his desk, just like he did with the last one. Dangit California, would you just give it a rest already!

Sorry if I strayed a bit, I felt it was applicable.

I remember reading someones post on the forum (I apologize for not giving credit to the OP). And they said something like if you're going to ban E-cigs because of flavors that might appeal to kids then you should ban things like peppermint schnapps. Just one more thing to add to the irony of it all.

Let's take that one step further...

I saw a health drink that was Pina Colada flavored.
If any teenagers got ahold of that it might make them want Pina Coladas.
And that might turn them on to alcohol.

So we need to ban Pina Colada flavored health drinks.

Skydragon, I though along those lines...do you think it would help? I'm thinking this comes down to tax money--two, the Nazis that want to run our life are in power and there's no stopping it. I really think the world has gone made at the top. How does that saying go? "With ultimate power brings ultimate corruption"?

Hmmm... that would go something like this...

Child: Oooh Oooh... Daddy! Daddy!... I want a chocolate cigarette... so I can look like I'm smoking with you... Please? Please?

Father: Sorry son/daughter. Daddy's all out of money from buying a carton of Marlboro's. [thinking "dam taxes"]

Child: But it's only $2.50... Pleeeeaaaase?

Father: For a small package of chocolate?!! You want chocolate? We can get 2 big bars of chocolate for $1.00 over at the Dollar Store.

Child: But I can't pretend to smoke those! I want chocolate cigarettes!

Father: NO!

Child: But Daaaaddyyy?

Father: I said NO!

Child: Waaaaah-ahaaa-ahaaa-haaa. uuuuuuu-ahuuuu-ahuuu. sniff-sniff. Waaaaah-ahuuu.

[other people in the mall are watching and giving daddy the evil eye here]

Father: Okay! Okay! Dam. I'll get you some chocolate cigarettes.

Child: Goodie Goodie.

[make purchase]

Child: La La La... I can smoke. La La La... I can smoke.

[Dad can't smoke in the mall, so he grabs one too]

Just the way it goes. And people wonder where it comes from? - LOL

i can not see why a state that would have medical mari.. would ban a e-cig..

i could see if it actually cured something.. but all it does is suppress symptoms.. the only thing it has proven to help cure is one form of prostate cancer..

Not true at all.

(I know that "drug discussion" is banned; is there an exception for discussing pot's legitimate medical uses? I'm guessing that that's a different kettle of fish, but I'm asking first just in case, I don't want to break the rules.)

I believe it is considered off topic. IMO, it is a reasonable comparison in the vein of "if that is legal, why isn't this", but we're here to discuss electronic cigarettes and protracted discussions on other topics could be used by our opposition as "evidence" that e-cigs are just a "smoke screen" (pun not intended) and its just not worth the risk or liability it would put on ECF's founders. If I were you, I'd drop the subject as quickly as you picked it up and call it good. ;) There's plenty of other more appropriate places where you can discuss that if you want.
