After almost 2 years without a cigarette, my wife seems to be concerned about the PV! :( Gave me a print of some "news" on the internet, given by the Lusa agency... what a load of b*s they wrote!
I'll try to translate:

"The electronic cigarettes sold in the internet and presented as effective to stop smoking are in fact bad for your health, and keep the addiction..."
1) I, as many others, have completely quit cigarettes with the PV. Others have at least cut the consumption by more than an half. How come it is not effective to stop smoking (as in "SMOKE" ??)
2) Last time I remember, cigarette smoke was really bad for your health, also...
3) The company I bougth the PV from, did not advertise it as a "stop smoking" drug/device... instead, it was advertised as a much safer alternative to cancer stricks. The fact that I have, in fact, stopped smoking, instead of only cutting back, is only an happy coincidence.:p

"Electronic cigarettes keep the addiction, and there are already some reports of negative effects concerning the healh of those who use it, and besides, they're really expensive. They're a little luxory toy to rich countries, and socially discriminatory to the poorer countries."
1) What negative effects? Why does not the 'reporter' states them outright? (Some allergies to PG? Some asthmatic people who had a bad reaction, maybe? How does that even compare to lung cancer?)
2) Really expensive?? Luxory toy?? I'm laughing my brains out!! In Portugal, tobacco is not that expensive (Say, 3.5 Eur) And even so, I have been spending a little more than half the money I used to spend with cigarettes! Imagine if I used to buy them at, say, 8 dollars a pack... now, tobacco is really expensive, Mr 'reporter'! Don't you know that for each 3.5 Eur pack, our government takes 2.7 Eur?? :?: (According to a recent article our Mr 'reporter' should be aware of...)

"The World Health Organization had already stated that it does not consider the e-cig as a non-stoping system, and that it contains chemicals that may be toxic"
OMG! WHO should know better...!
1) I don't care what they consider, or not, a 'non-smoking system'... in my own experience, as in many others, the PV was the only system that has allowed me to completely stop smoking! Yes, I still have the same oral fixation that smokers have. I may, or may not, be addicted to nicotine (sometimes, I use 0 nic liquid... trouble is, it does not give me the same throat hit that other liquids do). But, one thing is certain: I do not inhale cigarette smoke anymore! Cigarette smoke was also a WHO's great concern... so, where does that leave us?
2) Those chemicals may be toxic? Really? And about the chemicals found in cigarette smoke? Maybe there are some that may not be toxic, right?

"Luis Rebelo [president of the Portuguese Confederation of Tobbaco Prevention] stated that the e-cig came around after the grouth of tobacco-restrictive laws, and the growing evidence that second-hand smoke is really bad to one's health. For those reasons, companies who make fortunes with tobacco started making products where there is not visible smoke from tobacco consumption, allowing people to keep smoking"
What a shame! Being who he his, this person really should know better!
1) Philip Morris (who bought 'Tabaqueira' ['Tobacco Company'] in Portugal, some years ago, is the one who is 'making fortunes' with tobacco... there is not one single company who produces PV's/e-liquid in Portugal (There is one or two small companies who just sell them). And if someone starts producing them in the near future, I really doubt that it will be 'Big Tobacco'...
2) "allowing people to keep smoking" ?? PV's are still somewhat new here... personally, I have never seen anyone using a PV to 'smoke' in non-smoking areas. And I do not think for a moment that us, vapers, bought our PV's specifically to circunvert non smoking bans! Im my experience, we all bought those as a much safer alternative to cancer sticks! As the president of the Portuguese Confederation of Tobbaco Prevention, that person should be happy because our PV's are keeping us from smoking tobacco! But again, I believe this is only another poor example of how the anti's twisted mind works...

Sorry about the little rant. But as a Portuguese, I do feel ashamed about some of our portuguese "journalism" (Quotes intended). Unfourtunately for us all, I do not feel as ashamed as I should. Because we have seen already this kind of misinformation worlwide... any comments?
