Which, come to find out, is my father. Rather than give all the gory details, I'll give you the condensed version: it got pretty heated. Keep in mind I'd smoked analogs since I was fifteen, and I've never put the pack down for more than a day. My father is extreme anti-tobacco, and is a reformed smoker himself. That being said, I defended the PV pretty fiercely. Of course it was also at 5 in the morning for a breakfast visit, and we all can get pretty cranky that early in the a.m. =)

Essentially, he tried to hit me with the stuff we've all heard before: the anti-freeze bit, the "it's chemicals, you don't know what's in it" thing; we're talking the whole nine yards. Thankfully, (in no small part due to this site) my grasp of PV related knowledge was quite a bit more than he was probably expecting. What reeeeeally got my fires burning was the "they're going for kids" nonsense. I've seen that in a lot of articles and legislation (see New Jersey).

So, in this case, according to my father: Kids like fruit/chocolate flavors, E-cigarettes have fruit/chocolate flavers, therefore PVs are obviously targeting children. All bull:censored: aside: Do these people have any idea of how slippery a slope they're on?

AlphaTau. The way I shoot down the "you don't know what's in it " argument is that I mix my own juice. I know exactly what's in it. It's really easy and and a little cheaper. You may want to inform your father that the scary antifreeze chemical Propylene Glycol is pumped into the ventilation system at the major hospital my sister works in as a disinfectant. It's also the carrier in asthma inhalers. Very frightening.
The problem is that people believe that what they hear on network news is actually, well,... news when in fact most of it is agenda driven.

Wifey didn't like it for about 2 days. Luckily she's actually Dr. Wifey, so I pointed her to a few studies, asked if she'd really prefer that I go back to analogs given I freely admit I am hooked on the nicotine and psychological aspects of smoking, that "nothing at all" isn't an option for me at this time. She's been good since then :)

What's interesting (and unsettling) to me is that it it appears he'd prepared with some research of his own--and came up with all the misinformation. Looks like there's still some counteracting to be done out there.

I've been vaping for 3 month after 29 years of smoking and 20 years of nagging, I mean reminding that I promised to quit at some point in the near future, since I got married -- to a then-smoker! I now have already got "when are you going to quit the nicotine?" -- man, sometimes you cannot win! I should tell her it'll be another 29 years.......

Heard a good old joke yesterday:
Two women were sitting together, minding their own business.

People will look for and find the information they want to find. If I want to discredit PVs for example, all I have to do is search google for "e-cigarette dangers" and I will have lots of canon fodder to throw at people. Google searching can even make cigarettes look good by searching "Tobacco smoking benefits". Perfect example, the first search result from that is:
Smoking Your Way to Good Health - The benefits of smoking tobacco have been common knowledge for centuries. From sharpening mental acuity to maintaining ...
So, you get what you look for.

Haha, good joke... My wife, who has never been a smoker, loves the e-cigs. She even picked up one of mine that had some 0 nicotine and tried it. She said it was kind of relaxing and understood why the physical and oral habits were just as hard to quit as the addictive chemicals themselves.

your wife is an open minded woman. I'd keep her around if I were you. :)
My wife is a non smoking believer in ecigs as well. She's lived with me before when I've attempted to quit. She said that this time all she noticed was that I didn't stink anymore

I have every intention of it. She is very open minded about a lot of things and she generally accepts things that I enjoy. She was never happy about my smoking, but she never nagged me over it and never tried to push me in any other direction than the on I wanted to go. E-cigs have become a wonderful blessing in our home.

Rebuttals for ya :)

Diethalyne glycol is different from propelyne glycol or vegetable glycerine, and was only found in 1 of the (i think) 18 samples tested by the FDA, also it's actual amount was only a few parts per million, completely harmless at that level.

Sure, kids like candy flavors....But I like candy, my mom likes candy, my friends like candy...everyone friggin likes candy! ^_^

That slope is so slippery it could be used as a substitute Slip-And-Slide for parties!!

Exhibit A: Flavored alcohol
Exhibit B: Flavored cough syrup
Exhibit C: Flavored mouthwash
Exhibit D: Flavored Nicorette gum

I could break out more exhibits, but what's the point.
Your father seems to have his mind made up and he's just looking for ammunition.

That's what's really unfortunate.

To the OP: Your conversation with your father sounds like one I could have had with my father. Well, he's been dead for two decades, and I'd love to have that debate with him. He smoked for over 40 years, and quit cold turkey several years before he died of a non-smoking related disease. Sorry, I know my comment is off subject. Your post reminded me of dad though. Enjoy the living years.
