You are absolutely correct and I (and hopefully others) can be patient as was asked, especially given that this just happened over night. However, what I do not understand It is the same thing that happened when there was the new interface . . . and also when the "Social" buttons first showed up on the headers and there was the same uproar . . . More importantly, given the extreme "dislike" of most people concerning them being forced to accept "Social" Networking sites by many places (not ECF) or the suggestions that they change "Browsers" (when the interface change happened) . . . Why would ECF (or whoever is responsible) allow this to happen ? ? ? Just asking- hopefully you or someone will have an answer . . . .

You realize of course that links to your posts have always been "pastable" anywhere easily any time right, even without the intrusive little buttons? :)

Yes - And I ALSO KNOW ECF is a Public Domain . . .

However, that is not the point, nor what is being discussed . . .

It is the fact that this leads to both inexcusable excessive ability of people to do so (which is so absolutely reprehensible when it is also tied into PRIVATE MESSAGES) and how these "Social" Networking links interferes so much with the loading and enjoyment of being here at ECF . . .

BTW: I have also checked with a personal Friend in the legal field, and even though post on ECF are in the public domain from what I was told you have a certain right to privacy from having your Post and PM's link to (or posted) in these "Social" Networking sites, especially if you are not a member and did not post this information at their Web Site . . .

OK, this issue was brought up in the middle of the night.
We get that you don't like it.

You do know it is a Saturday morning, and perhaps giving us some time to look into the issue would be appropriate. Not everything can be fixed with the snap of your fingers. Our coders don'r work 24 hours a day. I don't mean to sound overly harsh, but c'mon..................

Patience is a virtue

Elendil,
I appreciate your point about patience and the mods needing time.
We however were not given any time for this change or advance notice, it kind of just happened BANG all of a sudden so the school of thought goes ...if it could happen all of a sudden BANG....than it can unhappen all of a sudden too.
I just became a supporting member because I really like this place. I thought that things like this might be voted on or a poll taken to see what the "troops" think. This is how other forums...ones I have even modded on have done it.
This leaves a bad sense that the memberships thoughts and concerns do not matter.
Once that happens to a forum people can start leaving in droves. I saw it happen to a forum I modded at at few years back.
For the most part the people want to feel like this is an escape to come with friends who share a common interest or hobby, once the sanctity of that is destroyed....what do you really have left??

This thread started shortly after midnight and has blossomed. Your concerns has been made clear to ECF and they are understood. Additional "redundant" post will not speed up the process. Discussions are ongoing among the mods. I ask that you give us some time to sort this out. Many of you are veteran (long time members), and your input is appreciated, as are the comments of newer members. The mods work tirelessly for you, the members, so you can have an enjoyable experience here.

THANK YOU ! ! !

@ "UntamedRose" - as soon as I can get the Money requested directly from "rolygate" I will pass what is left from "My" share on to "YOU" so you can share it with the other Volunteer Moderators . . .

I deliberately and aggressively avoid social networking sites, and having them intruding into ECF is just unacceptable. I enjoy the forum, but it's not the only activity I pursue on my computer. Tired of having to download this or that (that affects everything else) just to have decent access to ECF.

What Uncle said: Please NOTE & Be Informed: No ONE has "My" Expressed or Implied PERMISSION to link to "Twit," "Google", or "Facebook" anything I have Posted or PM here on ECF - I MEAN NOTHING . . .

For IE9 try this, it might at least speed up your browser a bit:

Tools > Safety (or directly to tracking protection) > Tracking Protection > click on Your Personalized List > Enable > Settings > change the : Show content from providers .... to 3 > click Automatically Block > OK > Close

-------------------------------------

There's also lists you can download. I haven't tried any of them. Be advised, if you try a list download, only have one active, as they can clash. [Including with your personalized list.]

^^^^^^^^^

This an old tweak used during temporary forum slowdowns. I just tried it with IE9 and it did speed things up.

If you're using IE 8 -- Go to your InPrivate Filtering settings. Set it to Automatically Block. Set to 3 the -- Show content from providers used by this number..... Then refresh.

The automatically block has to be reset at each instance of opening IE, the 3 will stay. This blocks facebook for me.

^^^^^^^^

Similarly for IE8 slowdown issues during this temporary issue. I haven't tried it, don't have a copy of IE8.

A question.

In IE9, how can I tell if Tracking Protection is Enabled? Is there an Icon somewhere or do I have to go to the Tools Menu?

The point of this thread is not to teach people how to become ad blocking experts.
I answered this thread because something was forced upon the masses whether they liked it or not.
Most definitely DO NOT like it.
It should not be necessary for anyone here to become skillful at blocking ads they never wanted in the first place.

I know the powers that be are listening...and for that I m glad. I just hope they fix it with the speed with which they changed it.

In your browser bar there's a blue (active,in my case) circle with a diaganol cross through it. (if inactive it's grayed out.)

If you hover on it = Some content is filtered on this site.
If you click on it you get the same info and a tab to configure its functions.

everyone - i dislike the slowness caused by the buttons as much as everyone, but just to put some fears to rest:

there is no privacy issue with these buttons. all they are capable of doing is posting a link to the page to the respective social network. this means that if you were to click one of them on a PM for instance, only the parties involved in the PM would be able to load the link. Everyone else would get an error message, since you have to be logged in and authorized to view a given PM.

The only issue caused by these buttons is the lag and slowness on page load and while scrolling. Nothing else is any different.

Hope this allays some worry.

Thanks progg.

I knew there should be something but just could seem to figure it out.

Thanks Again.
