Scuba. Great Work with the spring setup! Are you sure your not a nanosculptor ? How did you isolate the positive post?

LOL you would not believe me if I told you... but here goes...

First how to make the washers, I used 4 old cartos, and pulled out the center connector, on two of them I did this:

On the other two I did this:

Now I have 4 beveled washers, 2 short tubes and 2 longer tubes. Since I drilled the holes for the post 1/8", the longer post:

Fit snuggly into the 1/8" hole, I simply stacked two washerd bevel to bevel and then the spring on a tiny nail. I tinned the nail tip with solder and did the same thing to the top of the tube. I then heated both and soldered them together while applying pressure on the spring. I them pressed the assy into the 1/8" hole. This is for the neg leg.

For the Pos leg I did the same stack, pre-tinned the nail tip and short post.
And beveled the tip of the post:

Now believe it or not a bic pen tubing OD is exactly 1/8"
I cut a short piece so it stuck up 1/32 above the top of the aluminum, soldered the nail and short tube with a piece of 22ga red electrical wire. I then pushed that assembly into the bic tube and made sure it was short of the bottom so it did not short. And ran the electrical wire down the center tube to the atty connector.

All she needs now is the wick heated, and a coil put on her and some juice added and she is ready to go:

I will have to find the manufactures of the nails I used and post them too.
Just doin what I can with the gray matter between my ears. Will post updates on how she holds up.

Lorderos, might you have links for a parts list? I have the rod at MSC Stainless Steel Threaded Rods and Stainless Steel Solid Rods in metric and non-metric. but with the washers and nuts I'm not so sure. The clear heat shrink tubing really looks nice in the hybrid, doesn't it? Nice job and further pics please.

Dan, aren't you almost out of old carto parts by now? The bic pen tube has an ID or OD of 1/8"?

Same here.
Best I have found is hold one end while twisting the other while bending. (after you have rolled it into 2mm) So its more of a spiral type of roll.
Sometimes it kinks some it doesnt, lol.

I can definitely put up a parts list with links, no problem the stainless rod and nylon parts came from smallparts.com but the stainless nuts and washers came from a hobby supply place (they are control rod parts from an R/C heli, lol). I'm glad you liked the clear heat shrink. I'll pull it apart tomorrow night and take pics of the whole build process then post it all up most likely the next day. I might even just do a build video since all the parts are already cut it only takes a few minutes to put it all together.

I know Dan bends it while rolling, but I cheated and used the heat from oxidizing the mesh to bend it. When it's glowing red it bends very easily and does not kink if you go steady. I was playing around with it and managed to get some very small radius 90 degree bends in the mesh roll (talking 18 gauge needle radius). Not sure if I can use that in anything, maybe a ce2 rebuild, but it can be done and the wicking does not seem to be affected by the tight bend.

How is the performance of the double wick compared to single? I didn't like the single wick but gonna give this one a try just for fun....

Smallparts want ~$40/ meter for M2, via amazon, but msc has it for around $8... Before when I was looking I could only find RC heli parts and that was $8/ 10cm. Quite some difference there.

Also when bending, be careful not to ruin the square grid nature of the mesh, I had to give up on one that got deformed by twisting that it had a diamond pattern to it that never wicked right and wouldn't 'straighten out' right either. Perhaps I should have ironed it.

Then straighten it until you can remove the wire and bend the pure wick again to the needed curve.

That was the first technique I tried - it works, but not great. Once you have four or five layers of steel mesh it wants to kink. Maybe I should try it with fewer rolls and see what it does.

You have to over-bend the wick so the layers deformate a little. It works for me.
