I think the topic would have been better served as "some people seem to think a high-quality mod is expensive." There are plenty of devices that are well-built and perform well that are not Provaris. Not to slam Provari at all, but I understand that non-vapers, whether smokers or not do seem to gasp at the upfront price of a couple hundred bucks.

The math is easy to do, but doesn't work out as well if you get gadget-itis, and wind up with a dozen high-end PVs. It is still cheaper than chemo, that's a good line!

Whatever you're spending on a ProVari, juice, and cartos you won't need to spend on wheelchairs, COPD meds, and Oxygen Bottles in the future. I don't care what it costs the ProVari sounds like a bargain to me. You could get by cheaper but what fun would that be?

I don't agree to this. Many ex smokers develop lung cancer years after quitting.

frazz, agreed. I have known people (OK, one) that got the Big C, 20 years after quitting, and others that smoked from age 7 until age 90, and died because they "got old". Or something like that....

It's the luck of the draw. We are doing well here with harm reduction. Our parents' genes have a lot to do with it, I have chosen to make the best of what I have.

Vaping is also a lot more fun than chemo, I am familiar with that one.

The Provari is expensive, but it's not a throwaway PV. There's repair service available at Provape for reasonable prices and they will upgrade your current model to the next version. Right now, folks are getting their V1 upgrade to V2 electronics for $20 and that includes return shipping.

I don't have a Lavatube, but it was on my short list of finalists when I was shopping for a VV tube mod. Service and workmanship won out. The realization that a Provari is equal to about 4 cartons of cigarettes figured in nicely, also. The Provari is a heavy PV at 9 ounces, but it's reliable, repeatable, and consistent in the vape you get.

It's use of 18650 IMR batteries was another consideration. IMR probably doesn't have quite the charge life of a Li-ion, but it can take more heat and heavy current draw without entering thermal runaway and that's important to me. The LT can use those also. I was also tired of pot metal threads on eGo batteries. SS threads will sacrifice the threads on the atty rather than wearing the thread on the PV.

An important part of a high quality PV that is perhaps overlooked? The reduced stress of "will it work?". I was an accidental quitter, I started vaping to just save some money, and to be able to do it inside. After a few weeks I realized that I could perhaps really quit smoking.

Once I was a couple of months in, I was quite excited about quitting, and I had two battery deaths two days apart. I ordered immediately, white-knuckled it for a day, then bought a pack.

I remained pretty anxious about "will it work" for some time. A high-quality PV takes that worry away. In addition to the original stress about quitting smoking, we don't need stress about "will it work" as well.
