I don't live in a very big city (pop. 25k), but the vape craze has really taken off here so I feel lucky that I found this at the time and place that I did. It seems like all over Oklahoma the vaping is really taking off. I see people wearing their clearos on lanyards all over. I see people vaping pretty much everywhere. For a town this size, we already have three dedicated vape shops, which I think is awesome. So, not all over the midwest are people that ignorant. All it takes are some good B&M's with a lot of smokers willing to take the plunge.

Some people are busy-body nuts. I live where there's snow on the ground in winter and left my two dogs in the car to run returned videos in while there was. Some nut job called the cops because she didn't know the difference between an excited dog panting and a hot one. Geez... snow, coats on me and the dogs. The dogs live in a rural area and get way excited in town.. they pant the whole time we're in there. Cops were kind... however said although temp did not exceed the 70 degree limit requiring a ticket, three calls to them and they take the dogs regardless... scarey crap. Big Brother world. Now, the dogs don't get to do their favorite thing which is going for a ride because we're paranoid about loosing them.

You would think that with e-cigs everywhere these days, BLU's TV ad .. etc .. that folks would know what's what ..

People aren't reporting folks for cig-a-likes, that's what most folks use, they don't see egos and mods on TV so assume they a drug related rather than vaping related.

I see mods constantly .. in public, people in vehicles, etc .. if folks reported all the mods, all the cops would be doing is chasing down those reports .. now, when I started on a PV over 3 years ago, it was a different story ..

I guess it depends where you live. My best friend lives in a small town in KY. Apparently people vape everywhere there very publically. She works in a nursing home and the nurses and CNA's actually vape while at work. People vape at restaurants and stores. I live in a relatively small town in TN and I have never seen anyone else vape, as I said before.

The people probably thought they were doing the right thing. All to often people stand by and do nothing when illegal things are happening.

Now if the police were trying to confiscate my gear, i would ask them to bring a constable or more experieniced police officer. I guess it would depend on the cost of my gear they were taking vs. where i needed to go in a timely manner. Honestly by allowing them to take it, they are more likely to confiscate someone elses gear "just in case."

With that said, are you able to retrieve the confiscated gear once they determine it is harmless, or is it gone 4eva?

I get a few looks...nothing more, and CT isn't exactly the vaping capital of the US. In fact, none of my co-workers are smokers, and they suprisingly got comfortable with my vaping around them as soon as they realized it wasn't tobacco smoke.

My approach is to be polite and considerate, but never apologetic. Most law enforcement agencies are well-aware of vaping, so I worry little on that end of it.

There are decades of anti-smoking zealotry at play here though. To many uninformed, vaping is just another way to get around smoking. That is why I do vape in public...the more folks who become educated the better the chances of minimizing silly anti-vaping legislation.

I can see the scene in The City, 3 nekeed guys enjoying brunch at the sidewalk bistro, the lady with the shopping cart asleep blocking the doorway, the two youth passing a --, the man who hasten bathed in a month urinating on the tree... and you with the vape. Yes, I'm gonna call the cops on YOU! Welcome to The City, the land of fruits and nuts.

I now carry a Reo and tell 'em it's a medical deliver device for anti-depressants that keep me from repeating my past... :)

They confiscated my batteries and atomizers because they "resembled paraphernalia"

It happens man, win some, lose some.

Even if it's a $15 ego battery, I would not let that stand. I'd be respectful and I would comply. But, they would defiantly get a follow-up visit at the station from me and a lawyer.

That one may be the best one yet! If you don't mind, Montara, I will be using this in the future. Made me LOL!

I am therefore I vape. Perhaps it should be: I vape, therefore I am and will continue "aming" for a lot longer than if I smoked!

I have a "friend tip" in my case. I don't know why. ECB sent it as a freebie and I keep it with me just 'cause. Maybe it would be nice to offer the offended or suspicious person a free vape so they can see how wonderful it is!

People also spike soft drinks with alcohol. Yet the police don't pull over everyone they see sipping from a cup - unless they have other reasons to do so. Law enforcement need to be aware of the fact that these devices are used legally, by law abiding citizens, more often than they are used illicitly. Possession of a personal vaporizer is not, in and of itself, a suspicious activity.

I have been a police officer for 14 years and some mods and parts of Mods do kind of resemble devices used to smoke .......... However, in order to be charged with drug instruments, it has to be proven that's what it's used for. As far as confiscation, go to the department and ask to get your property back. Any property we find or conficaste has to be logged into property. We cannot destroy it immediately unless the evidence is perishable (food).

I showed my fellow officers and supervisiors my equipment so they knew what it was.

Thank you for sharing. Very nice to hear stuff like that from an actual LEO :)

Also.. LOVE the avatar! :p
