That cotton looks OK. It's just rebranded facial pads sold for more money. Oh, and that CVS search outcome? Folks have used those pads successfully for wicks too. For real. Honest.

Guess what? I have another question!

So, cleaning the wire, can I just use alcohol, do I need to use fire? (Too early, I honestly typed 'does I need to use fire')

I don't have a blow torch! I mean, I would love to play with one but I am a bit accident prone, and I mostly like having hair.

I do have fire sticks though, well, technically, they probably have another name, the ones you start campfires or grills with.

Though any way to make this less dangerous to me, the better!

You do not have to clean or torch the wire. Torching the wire is only on some types of wire to help remove any "springiness" in it, not necessary here. When you build and mount the coil, after you make sure the resistance is OK, you're going to gently pulse the coil with current to make sure it heats up all evenly. That will burn off any residual stuff that might be on it. Wire from places like Temco (still can't believe that back order thing) or Master of Clouds arrives quite clean with no machine oil or anything.

Oh, and should you ever need to torch a wire (or certain fancy coil builds) in the future and don't have a blow torch handy, a Bic lighter works just fine by passing the wire through the flame. Just don't burn your thumb holding the button down.

As long as the cotton is ok! It's the same price for the cotton or cotton + 100 ft of wire, and since I need both...

You are probably gettin tired of me and all my questions already, but thank you sooooo much Eskie. I really cannot thank you enough for your help, all the info, putting up with me and the fun. You've been just awesome and great and patient and fun, so thank you, more than I can say. You've made this easier and have made me feel SO much better about all of this. I'm so glad you are here and found my thread.

Do not worry, I am sure I will remember something else I need answered soon!

Your welcome. When I started I got a ton of help from this place, so to me it's paying back all that help and support. Besides, I still learn all sorts of new stuff hanging out around here myself.

Well, you've been super awesome and super helpful and super nice and patient so thank you again.

Ok wire and cotton ordered! Slumber party at my house next weekend for coil making, everyone is welcome!

Oh and I'm pretty sure that I owe you for all your

I mean, I'm not supposed to play with sharp objects, but noone said anything about blowtorches! Please?!

Fine, but it will be my little propane handheld. And I'm not bringing my plasma arc welder to weld the coil in place. The grub screws will have to be enough.

Well, I mean, we don't HAVE to use a plasma whatchamajigit for that whatchamacallit, we can use it for something else! You know you want to bring both! It'll be fine!
