Thanks for posting that, pherse! And thanks for making the vid, Mindfield! Hell, it looks simple enough that even I could do it! Bonus! Have the link saved to my desktop now so I don't have to try and remember where I saw it, lol.

Happy to help out. :D I'll have an update to it soon enough using the Extreme Vision. It probably won't be any different, but I do want to test for leakage with the new plastic tube, and I'd also like to do an Extreme Extreme Vision mod, replacing the original coil and wick with 32 AWG Kanthal A wire and a SS 320 mesh wick. A Vision that could last hundreds of fills? It's more likely than you think. :D I have the supplies I need, I just need to work out how best to attach the wire. Visions use .... joints instead of solder, I believe, and I can't do .... joints.

Wrap your one wire around the air tube and knot it. The other can be sorta sandwiched between the tube and base.

That's how I put the led in one of mine when the original one broke and I accidentally broke the red wire.

Not a bad idea. I figured on the sandwich bit since the original Visions do that, I was just concerned about the tube, but a small knot should be sufficient to make a good connection, and as a bonus I won't need to do any soldering. I like solutions that require as little skill as possible, and soldering can be tricky for some people, so this should be something most people can do pretty easily. I'm going to try that on a Fluxomizer first.

Is there a fix for the CE2 R4 cartomizers, one that doesn't require a surgeons degree to complete? By fix I mean getting rid of the nasty burning rubber taste that is prevelant on vaping anything.

In my personal experience...the fix is to throw the CE2 R4's away, never buy them again, and pick up some Boge 510 cartos. Which do work simply & easily, right outta the box.

:D I know that's not what you wanted to hear hun. Couldn't resist.

I recall from 2010 that the best way to get rid of the nasty burning-plastic taste is to do a few dry-burns first with the CE2 R4, before filling it with your e-juice. That doesn't mean they're gonna be good...but dry-burns do seem to make a positive difference with CE2 R4's...at least re: getting rid of that nasty taste.

But seriously...it's not your fault. These things suck. There have already been several revision-versions since the CE2 R4. Even CE3's & all their versions are old news now: we just saw the other day that CE4's already exist. I have no reason to believe they're any better than CE2's were. The fillerless carto was a good idea...but these CE-thingies are a flawed design that should never have seen the light of mass-production the way it did, or when it did. They wick terribly, they're inconsistent, they're very difficult to fill, they leak frequently...and if they have a clear body, they can break too. Awful. Yes, some people like 'em...but all CE2's require fiddling. They have never worked properly, fresh outta the box.

So I say get some Boge cartos. Save yourself the hassle & get back to simple, happy vaping. If Boge cartos aren't your thing ('cause not everyone likes them)...then your best alternative would be a good atomizer + drip tip.

Anyway, enough about that. I wish you the happiest of vaping & all the best in 2012! Happy New Year all!

not a book but darn close. It
Someone could write a book on all the mods and fixes found on this board. It would have to be part 1 and part 2 with a sequel for the new stuff.
Clyde already done that some time last year :) Not abook but something darn close. It was amazing to see what we had forgotten or seemed like eons ago

That's kinda what I figured. I have about 50 or 60 boge 2.0's on hand so I'm all set then.

Granted you did say this was your opinion, but it is a horribly mistaken one in my opinion.
I'll make my argument short.... Try a vision.

I'd have to say the "vision" is a perfect example of a product that fits the bill as something that needs to be often modified, IMO.

I've had far too many issues to consider them "something that actually works right out of the package". Definitely another product that could have easily avoided the QA catastrophe by proper beta testing before rushing out to market.

I feel very sad for customers that have been taken by manufacturers and their corroborating suppliers.

All the while, it is a fairly brilliant way to launch a retail product and not lose money on R&D.....paid beta testing. Perhaps E Cigs are the Minecraft of consumer products..except for the fact that you don't INHALE Minecraft into your lungs.

Factory Engineer: Sir. I know remembering when I was told you about R1, and R2 and R3 and R4? This is way amazinger. We are so exciting, because new 2012 clearomizer is hear.

Owner of Factory: WOW, I'm so exciting and so will Western World, because they never expecting something amazinger than R4 or Vision. Maybe we too nice to these guys with all new produx? Please, telling me.

Factory Engineer: Sir, we has great new cartomizers for all has to enjoy. It is very maximum vapor production and you have so many fillings for each......... Revision is the new Vision.

Owner of Factory: How does it works for satisfied customer?

Factory Engineer: We has test it for 13 animals and 46 Human. Everyone is alive and they also say vapor is maximum awesome, expeshally animals.

Owner of Factory: Awesome Style! Sounds like Revision is the new Vision! Is it safe to use for not leaks and wicking and burning and taste and everything is okay?

Factory Engineer: Yes, 5 people has say it is leaking, 15 people say it is not work, 10 people is dogs so we can't understand, whole bunch others is that peoples we keep locked in closet for testing. They always say everything is great. So basically from testing.......way better quality than R4 or Vision........ Revision IS the new Vision!!!

Owner of Factory: Fantastic Style Amazing!, we will release to all our supplier and let them sell to customer and have them pay for our mistakes. Plus someone will make youtube video on how to waste half hour on dollar product to make it work anyways!!!! hehe. Move forward with production on Revision Version 2.... MoRevision will be the new Revision!

I'm not in any way indicating my love for boge cartomizers (I don't use them), although their reliability out of the box is far better, IMO.

I went through the phase of modding cheap atty/cartos.
i found it redundant and a waste of my time.
There is no need to tinker with an existing product to get it to vape better, you just havent found the right one. Or, you have it stuck in your mind that there is better, when there actually isn't. Gluttony is a sin in many cultures :p

these "mods" do absolutely nothing for performance. yes, some so called mods make use more convenient, but that convenience is thrown out the window by the inconvenience of modding it in the first place.

the commercially available atty/cartos have their place in our vaping community.
buy them, use them, toss them and buy another. That is the convenience of a $2 carto...

you want to tinker, buy/make a rebuild-able atty/tank. Use parts from used atties if that tickles your modding itch...

It just grinds me up inside when people spew their verbal ........ of an amazing mod that turns a cheap product into an amazing fog machine. when in reality it performs the exact same as before...

2 things affect performance:
-airflow
-coil heat

aside from engineering your own atties and winding your own coils, modding remains cosmetic.

Not true. My mods on the Fluxomizer Deluxe and Vision improve both airflow and coil heat (or more accurately, vapor temperature) by removing obstacles that get in the way of both, and the performance is absolutely improved afterwards.

I have to agree 100% Mindfield. Vision worked ok out of the package but after performing the first of your mods (no cutting down the tube size) vapor production and warmth if far better.:vapor:

What gets me is when people hype up expensive mods and not be honest about saying they have them because they're shiny, they give them prestige like owning a Ferrari or something, or simply saying they have them because they like owning them like a collector's hobby. If an expensive mod is so great, why would you need another mod? Shouldn't you just need one? I see people displaying their expensive PVs A, B, C, etc. Aren't you supposed to be content with one because it's great and expensive? Why need another one? Because the first one didn't work as you expected?

They're basic devices to me and nothing more than flashlights. Of course, they have extras like regulators, digital displays, extra buttons. I have an e-reader worth less than $100 and it has everything and more. If this is how you assess technology and how far it has gotten us into, then we need to think back and expect more from our money.

I'd mostly agree with agree with Buzz, although some modding does render rather useless products useable at least.

In pertinence to this thread, however, the thought of having to mod anything that is purchased from a company here is absolutely ridiculous! It happens nowhere else, but for our industry, and should only be a "because I want to" not "because I need to scenario.

The fact that this happens is both a result of the forum community, new-comers and suppliers that get swept away by a cheaper product, passionate vapers with a lot of time, and helpful vets with the kindness to help people out who got screwed.

In my opinion, the onus is on the suppliers to direct customers to a good product that does not need modification to work properly. If it sucks, they shouldn't sell it. Period. Please don't use customers as guinea pigs. I'm not ranting, there are many suppliers (I'm not advertising them) that realize these things....here....in Canada!

A word of advice (not that my advice should mean anything): If you're selling atties or cartomizers as a supplier....test 100 atties until they die....with different viscosities and flavours etc. etc. because not all of your customers are vaping 100% PG clear liquid from China. That will give you a great idea of how your hardware performs. When it comes to cartomizers....you should probably test 100 as well, at the VERY least, with all sorts of liquids. DOA is a big problem, as are all sorts of other well known defects with some of the manufacturers' other hardwares (batteries etc). The giant sea of chinese e cig "factories" and "manufacturers" and distributors and resellers and fakers and copy-cats and down-right disgusting practices etc etc. is mind boggling. I'm sure most customers would be shocked to realize the density of the machine that is "E Cig China".....some fantastic, some despicable.

Additionally, the suppliers/vendors would be able to ensure better, long term business, success and customer satisfaction, when dealing with better and more reliable products! win/win.

This is what consumer protection is about and the safeguarding points that larger institutions use against disorganized business practices that result in an improper/failing product falling into the hands of Canadians.....and as Canadian consumers, we have many, many rights when it comes to the quality and consistency of product, when purchasing ANYTHING in this country.

As far as modding and "packaged" or "disposable" products, it is most often a case of people wanting to squeeze tons and tons of life out of something that costs a dollar or two and should just be thrown out.

IMO

I agree as well, If you spend 20 bucks on some junk cartos (ce2 r4) based on a few good reviews, then find out they are total crap unless you modify them then you either modify them or throw away 20 bucks.

What does gluttony have to do with mods?

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't attacking you Mindfeild, i can see how your mod can improve airflow :p
I actually own the exact same carto, which i bought on impulse and no longer use.

I was just venting... there are too many people on these forums wining about out of the box performance of throw away items.

I was perfectly happy with the 2.8 Ohm atty that came in my 510 kit when i started to vape, it was only when i saw the performance of other mods and used them, i felt like i needed more or that what i had wan't enough.

I spent needless amounts of money, trying to buy the perfect vape.
Once I realized that maybe I was the reason my PV wasn't enough, is when i started to actually enjoy vaping.

After over a year of trial and error, i have been happy for over a month with a single cell mechanical mod with a 2 Ohm rebuild-able atty. Having no urge to search for anything else has been my largest vaping achievement since quitting analogs.

To me once I experienced having an Ego and my brother letting me use his VV box mod, I got it. All I need is a good battery and cartomizer. I'm not necessarily recommending an Ego here, I'm just saying the vapor production is enough. Anything more expensive is just SLIGHTLY better. (Well, it's all subjective, anyways. What's better to one is crap to another.) Like my bro, I don't need one with a variable voltage. I'm content with a nominal 3.7V and LR carto.
