In an effort to diminish underage smoking, Sonoma California is the first US city to ban the sales of e-liquid flavors and flavored tobacco. In a unanimous vote last week, Sonoma’s council members approved a law that will ban new businesses from selling flavored tobacco products like cigarettes, cigars, hookah shisha, chewing tobacco and others. But the council has also lumped e-liquid flavors into the ban too, essentially equating e-liquid with tobacco.
I mean they actually did it, the future of vaping looks more and more grim, how dare anyone try to take away the very thing that stopped me smoking.
With the unanimous vote from the council during the first reading, it seems very unlikely that the members will change their minds on the regulation when it comes for a second vote sometime this month. If voted in, the measure will take effect September 1. Thanks to volcano for most of this information.
Protect the children, that's their defence, really ??? Like a lovely yummy custard vape is going to lead to younger people moving onto disgusting tasting cigarettes...Come on

Well since you're not going to be smoking/vaping delicious flavors children help yourself to some cotton candy flavored vodka on the house. Irony uh what's that?
My kids prefer overly sweet coconut flavored vodka.

They're more traditional like that.

Time to lace up your best OHHELLNO boots rally the troops and fight this with everything you have. As concerned as we are about what is going on at the federal level (and yes we should be) they are cutting us off at the knees locally. Bans of all kinds regarding ecigs are becoming common place, honestly, once the local and state governments get through with us there won't be much left for the federal government to pick apart.

The only reason I can see for optimism right now is that the States are all doing it differently. California and Indiana might be lost but maybe a few States will be less draconian. What I'm keeping my fingers crossed for is that there will a few States that still allow vaping, and it can start to grow back from there.

The Feds could still close it all down though.

It's SOPA all over again. They introduced the bill at fed level and made it known so that the timing was just right for advocacy to stop it in its tracks while it was being signed in at the global level under a different name.

~~damn it..I like Sonoma wine tours..crossing them off my destinations list~~

isn't cali making it tough for ejuice makers I'd read in some article where a lot were leaving Cali for Arizona or something like that?

CA is making it difficult for anyone who disagrees with their particular politics. My state of NY is, unfortunately, close on their heels.

less draconian like Ohio who doesn't want to ban anything they want us Ohioans to enjoy our vape, well, for a tax that would equate to almost $34 on a 30ml bottle ....but hey enjoy! Thankful that move by Gov. Kasich failed but there are plenty of other Ohio senate members that are pushing for taxes on vapor products to be included in the final bill.

Some great comments here.
Yes menthol and tobacco flavours too, only unflavoured e liquid can be sold.
As long as the government are losing money we are going to be targeted.
If we're no buying their products or their drugs then they will do all they can to stop us vaping, this has never been about safety or protecting children, if it were then they would ban tobacco, one of the deadliest drugs known to man, it even kills people that don't smoke. I'm afraid the number one reason is of course and always has been money.

So does that mean menthol cigarettes will be banned as well? Since technically menthol is a flavor.

This is one of the ironies. On a National level, when the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act was enacted, a few years ago, which banned all flavored tobacco cigarettes, in the supposed interest of saving the children, menthol was exempted. Curiously, the majority of teen smokers, as well as an overwhelming majority of minority adult smokers, smoke menthol cigarettes.

Which is why I've been vigorously corresponding with these elected officials. Ohio only spent 0.5% of the MSA payments for its intended purpose. They took out loans on that money, and now can't pay them back. Poor budgeting on the part of this state! There's nothing to keep me here either. I can move if I choose.

This whole flavor thing just boggles my mind. How anyone could think they will lead children to smoking cigarettes amazes me. Now, having crappy tobacco flavor only might because cigarettes taste better than most of those e liquids

the whole flavor and advertising and the children thing was
all sophistry to begin with. back when the pertinent studies were done
about 70% preferred regular,24% menthol and 6% all the other flavors
combined. it is easy to see how banning flavors most assuredly helped
cut back on underage smoking.(not)
by the way flavored cigarettes tasted awful.
also when you consider that most every one actually
had to learn how to smoke as not to gag with every
puff its obvious the activity is learned first and any
preferences come after.
