Sony VTC4 Pitting? ??

Hi. I purchased these months ago but after about a week of use, I found they made my Maraxus uncomfortably hot. So naturally I stopped vaping and pulled the battery out. The battery was hot and I immediately stopped use. Upon further investigation, they appear to be pitting on the bottom.

I was looking through my dresser drawer for something and came across them again. They haven't exploded or vented or anything and out of curiosity, I was wondering if anyone knew if these would still be safe to use? In my Vamos if nothing else? They do still work.

I'm not a battery expert by any means. Personally I would toss them or maybe contact where you bought them. I doesn't sound safe to me and I wouldn't take the chance. I don't own many of my own teeth but I would still want to keep them. Just my

Lol yea... It was more so my curiosity. .. however I did check them in my Vamo V3 and V5....the do work, but..idk...only reason they are even still around is lack of a place for proper disposal...

I hear ya. I had a battery go super hot on me in my pocket one day and since then I'm really careful with anything. You know the old trick when I was a kid was about seeing a match burn twice. I may have been crazy then but I'm not as dumb in my old age! LOL

I ordered VTC5's from Mt Baker Vaper last month. I really like them. I also use the Efest 35A 2600 mah and of course the old reliable AW.

I have a few extra bucks at the moment so I'm definitely open to suggestions. I did like the EFest batteries I used to have before I dropped out of a window in a moving car...always watch out for potholes when you're changing batts while your friend with a lead foot is driving...

Those vtc5 batterys are the best 18650 imo you can get right now. I wont use anything but those in my mods! They can get warm while charging and heavy use. That pitting looks to me like where a spring may have been contacting under load and got hot. If you dont have enough surface area making contact with the battery it is going to get hot at that contact point.
thats a 30A battery. Lots of power for its size
anybody know of a better battery? I would like to know?

I use a pair of knockoff UltraFire 3000 mAh in my Vamos more like 186500 mAh lol. They actually do great.....for about 45 mins...I use them as an extreme last resort after my backup batts are done... glad I only paid 4 bucks

It is hard to tell, is there only indentation on the batteries, or is there discoloration? If there is, you could have arcing, which would indicate an issue elsewhere in the device, a short somewhere

Yeah those batts should be good if they were old then I would not use them again but since you say they are basically brand new they should be better than ok but great. There's an obvious problem with your mechs spring and those batts which are the shortest batts available. They are only 64mm where most all other batts excluding AW(65mm) are 66mm unprotected -protected up to 73mm..

There are knockoff sonys on the market too and that may also be an issue.
If not sure best to toss them but if they are sony's they can take extremely low currents and be fine
if they charge and hold that charge they are fine... You may have lost a few hours charge on them if any..

Those batteries are bad, send them to me and I will make sure they get recycled.

The fake Sony also has an unsightly wrapper seam...and the real should have a flat bottom, some fakes do not

Looks like arcing. Make sure the contact surface is as large as possible. If the battery and button are only touching in a small area, it can cause that.

It looks to me that you have a short or coils with extremely low resistance. That's how they would look if something was shorted as well as explain the heat.

It looks like there is something wonky on your button. Maybe a spring. Maybe the button isn't contacting the battery flat. Maybe a burr on the button.

Wait... let me clear up. It wasn't necessarily only the Maraxus. One heated my Nemesis button up also.
But that "generic" blue Dishy 2200 mAh has been holding up strong. As for my coils...I get the same resistance every time I rebuild, 1.8 ohms - 2.3 ohms weather it be single or dual coil build

I also considered them being knockoffs...but they'd be some amazingly great quality knockoffs...plus I got them from a seller who had been approved/recommended by quite a few happy people from the forums here.

That blue battery has different dimensions. It still looks like arcing. Maybe your mode are making better contact with the cheap battery...i find myself doing a lot of micro adjustments to the button and positive contact when switching batteries to make the fit right
