Sony Vtc5 Battery Problem

Hello, I have a EHpro kayfun and its been working great for about a month. Then I start having problems with the battery which is a sony VTC5. I ordered 2 new ones that over heated and stopped working. So I bought another one that did the same thing. I dont know what the problem was so I bought a fourth one and that one gave out on me too. Won't fire or charge. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

By chance what mod are you using them in? Is it something like the 4nine mod that uses a hybrid connector?

+1 seems like a problem with your mod. If it's any mod with a hybrid cap, they prefer and are safer with button top batteries. Or, it could be your RDA. The contact pin needs to protrude out past the 510 threading.

If you don't have one of these mods... I don't know. Is your battery charger working on your other batteries?

Where is Baditude?!?!?!?

We might need a bit more information to solve the problem. Here's some info you might want to provide.

Where you bought the batteries.
Mod you use it on.
Ohm reading of your coil
Charger you use

Pictures might be nice if you have it. The only thing I troubleshoot on is the atomizer. IF you have access to a multimeter, I'd check to make sure there's no short in the center of the 510 pin and the side of the mod. make sure the delrin piece is below the coil spacer on the positive side, and make sure that spacer isn't touching ANY part of the side of the atty. When you make your coils, make sure you snip any excess off, and make sure your coil isn't touching anything but the post screws.

You also may have bought some fake VCT5's. They are flooding the market lately with the recent popularity boom.

I was just thinking that. I've never had a VTC5 get hot, closest was really warm. But, a mod can affect the heat if not designed right and not able to vent properly. That can be more of an issue when using clones. But using a kayfun or kayfun clone shouldn't have that issue since a kayfun doesn't work well with low sub-ohm builds.

That's a good link. The only thing is in time counterfeiters are getting better at what they do.

I am using a EHpro origin mod, i know i dont have a fake vtc5. I bought the 2 of the batteries from the same store i bought my e-cig from. When i first bought it it lasted me about a month. No problems with the battery what so ever. I have tried everything to fix the problem and just when I think its fixed it happens again.

There are some places that sell counterfeits, NOT because they are crooks BUT because they DON'T know they're fake. Could it be your battery charger? What charger are you using?

I have 2 chargers. One I got when i originally bought the e-cig. And another when i thought i was having a problem with either the battiers/charger. right now i am using an itellicharger i2 that i bought off line. I also looked up how to spot a fake vtc5 and it seams like its real. Like i said, when i first got the ecig i had no problems at all for about a month.

Four different batteries did this. I think you have a short, bottomline.

The only time my Sony's have gotten hot was when a mech switch locked in firing mode when was in the loo. Came back to a fog filled fragrant room. But then everything was hotter than he//. Melted inuslators, drip tip, burnt the chit out of me, but once every thing cooled down, batt was still at 3.8 volts, marked it and have been monitoring it, seems to be no worse for wear.

You have a short, or fakes, or both. Break everything down, mod and rba used, clean everything, tooth brushes and toothpaste is what I use, then go over everything with rubbing alcohol. re-build, reassemble, check it out. Monitor closely.

Sony's just don't heat up by them selves. What amps you are demanding from them whether due to a short in the mod or atty, is like way over specs, basically more amps then it's pulse amp rating.

Yeah, defective ones are picked up by like fire something and ebay sellers, well some of them. Actually have two reliable, reputable battery sources on the Bay.

If you have not solved your issue all I can suggest is to look at:

- Your charger! A lot of the time it's a low quality charger or a buggy charger that does not have overcharge protection.
- The mod you are using
- The resistance of your coils to the amperage of your battery. Perhaps you are running a build that is too low (unlikely considering you are using a kayfun not an RDA but still worth mentioning if you do ever use an RDA with a really low resistance build)

All I know is that the VCT 5 is probably not your problem unless you are ordering them from a company that sells fake VCT batteries. Good luck!

There are some places that sell counterfeits, NOT because they are crooks BUT because they DON'T know they're fake.
A very reputable battery vendor, Illumination Supply, announced via email to customers who had recently purchased Sony VTC5 batteries from them, that the batteries received are counterfeit batteries. Initally these batteries had passed Illumination Supply's initial testing, but later were found to be re-wrapped Samsung batteries with only a 20 amp continuous rating. Quotes from that email are in the below link:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/batteries-chargers/590787-more-fake-sony-vtc5.html

I caught the above information while browsing a Facebook vapors group last evening. Another interesting comment on the same post made by the owner/operator of an E-liquid company said he had gotten word that Sony will be discontinuing the sale of Sony VTC batteries and will no longer be offered to the vaping community. I can't yet validate this information but if true, we may soon lose our best battery for sub-ohm vaping.
