So I have this friend.....she's a "closet smoker" who bought a 510 model several months ago because she is health conscious.

Fast forward 6 months, and she hardly uses it because it sucks.

She comes to my house today to ask some questions, and it rapidly becomes apparent that she has not bothered to learn one single thing about ecigs or how they work.

She say " I really like mine, but..... It's always on the charger, and when charged the batteries don't last very long...the vapor isn't that great..blah, blah blah."

So I show her my ego, and my mods, and she says " I could never use something like that....!"

I tried really hard to explain how it all works, and show her things that might work for her, and she rejected every one. So screw it.

If you're too lazy to get informed, and buy a decent device that will vastly increase your chances of success,

I can't freaking help you.

Ah, but it isn't over yet... I've had a number of folks (co-workers, mostly) that would glaze over when I would try to "convert" them, and have (incorrectly, as it happens) arrived at the same place - screw it - you can't be bothered, so neither can I.

Then I find out, sometimes weeks after our last "unsuccessful" encounter, that they've taken the plunge and switched anyway.

What I've learnt - 1 - Don't be evangelical. We're not selling a religion here, after all. If someone expresses interest, that's wonderful - answer questions, address concerns, and so on. But let their questions drive the course of the conversations. Do not talk about the FDA, big pharma, or any of the other messier topics. If they ask, keep it simple, leaving plenty of room for future discussion. 2 - Lead by example. Like the old saw - a picture's worth a thousand words - seeing me, day after day, week after week, enjoying success with my equipment. It's a stronger selling-point than any amount of advocacy (evangelism) will ever be.

tl;dr - be patient, let her drive the eCig conversations, and let her come to becoming a vaper on her own.

Once they understand the concept, it should be obvious that you enjoy it, have quit or cut down on cigarettes drastically and without serious adverse effects. Sure, it's easier to just buy a pack of cigs and smoke, but the health risks are many. That's what people don't understand. They think ecigs are dangerous and their tobacco cigs are just easier than dealing with batteries, atomizers, and juices.

We need to help them understand that vaping is the safer way to satisfying their nicotine cravings.

The big thing I push when getting people to switch is how much better the flavor is. I quit smoking by accident, didn't even INTEND to. I got into vaping so my wife wouldn't get fired for smelling like smoke, and was going to keep smoking when she wasn't home. But, the flavor was so much better from the vape that I just quit the analogs. When you explain stuff like that, new people get more okay with the idea of bigger units.

One of the barriers to ecig acceptance is complexity. People don't want to mess with filling and cleaning attys, fussing with leaks, and trying to understand hardware and juice types. Most just want ecigs to be throwaways like tobacco cigs with no muss and fuss.

I look for ecigs to become even more easy to use and more reliable as time goes on. In a recent thread, an American supplier rep who actually works in China at the R&D level with ecig development told us that around March a new ecig design would be hitting the market. He says this one will revolutionize the ecig as we know it. Maybe that's hype, but we've come a long way in development so far. It's time for reasonably priced VV mods to hit with reliable technology.

I know, i get the same things, its too much trouble, blah blah blah -- it is more trouble than cigarettes, thats a given. But if you really invest some time into learning what is out there and finding what suits you, once you do, it just becomes a habit like anything else. It is like learning anything new, it may be time consuming and frustrating at first, but later on it becomes second nature.
