I remember the Chile one - it was last Feb.
The news stations all join together, so there's only 2 different stations in situations like this. So 4 channels have the same broadcast, and the other one has slightly different footage. I'm guessing they just can't cover the entire coast line of every island. I could be wrong, but I think the news stations are centered here, not on each individual island. You'd be surprised how backwards it can be here, lol.
We live just outside the evacuation zone, so we stayed home. If they had predicted the 30-something foot waves that hit Japan I definitely would have gone to higher ground. They were predicting 6 feet, which wouldn't travel far inland like the Japan waves did. I admit I spent the entire time second guessing my decision to stay put, its just a tough call because we're about .75 miles from the water. I can hear it when the waves get big, but I can't see it from home. I knew in my head we would be OK, but I worried (needlessly, thankfully) anyway. What happened here was so minor in comparison to Japan.
