I've decided that I'm going to finally come-out-of-my-shell, and be proactive with starting conversations about vaping & e-cigs (using the most familiar term that the general public might know)

Here's mine for a smoker: (with with ego & Kanger clearo in-hand) ... so what you heard about these e-cig things?

Next up is the non-smoker, with a real simple know anyone who smokes?

Ask a few more questions to get a better feel for their level of knowledge & to guide the dialog from there.

You may be wondering what I do with a non-smoker who doesn't know smokers.

With them, I hope to plant a seed of positive association with the term. In 1 short sentence I can establish:
  • It was the critical factor that allowed me to quit my 43 years of smoking - without pain (in my case)!
  • 99% safe for me, and more so for everyone around me.

Now that person has a real live experience / memory of a real live person who benefited from vaping.

If in the future someone starts talking about banning or how dangerous vaping/e-cigs are, my person can say "I ran across a guy who had a great experience with e-cigs and these things helped, and he said... "

Start those conversations!!!

What are your favorite conversation starters????

People despise proselytizing. I don't do it ever.

My eRoll that I use in public has served me very well as a vaping goodwill ambassador. People often approach me to ask if it works to quit smoking. I have friend tips, alcohol wipes, extra cartridges, CASA/ECF/Vendor cards and an Innokin iTaste VV 3.0 in my purse in case someone wants to give my gear a try.

My opening line is always, "Ever seen one of these before?"

Most people try to stare inconspicuously, so I catch on and let them know it's ok to ask and talk about it. I went on vacation in New Orleans recently, and I've never seen a community with more smokers. Everyone smokes there. I walked around with my Innokin SVD and got so many stares. A handful of people even asked me what it was. One guy was walking toward me on the street, and as he passed, he yelled, "That's what's up! High five!" and pulled out his mod. lol Just pay attention and pick up on the stares. Most people are curious and it'll give you the opportunity to strike up a conversation. :) Good luck!

Yeah, I might need que cards for that one ;))

I would go with my standard opener that I used when I was trying to pick up a girl..."Hi, I'm Scott"
I am telling you that is the best "pick up line" ever.

Edit: Should you choose to use my "pick up line" please use YOUR name. :D

Heh I just realized you are Scott too.

 That makes a little sorry I asked the question...

Don't be. Just don't go up to random people who were minding their own business. However, if you are using your device and see someone starring at you with a puzzled look on their face, then go introduce yourself....they are obviously interested.

That's what made it LOL!! "Insert YOUR NAME here" ;))

And no, I'm not suggesting knocking on doors, etc... not sure how anyone got 'there'.

I spent enough years in sales ... and spotting opportunities that might present, instead of being passive and waiting for someone else to break the ice.

It's all good...

I am usually a little put off when people just randomly start talking to me in public, beyond a friendly "hello, how are you", so I can't imagine that I would ever decide to start chatting someone up about ecigs. But if someone approached me with a definite "hey, is that a electronic cigarette?" I would be ok with talking to them about it.

Why would you think that a perfect stranger wants to spend their time engaging in a conversation about the topic of your choice? I rely on the non-threatening charm of the eRoll combined by a welcoming smile on my part to encourage people to approach me to ask questions. That way their mind is open to listen to what I have to say because the conversation has been initiated on their terms.

I don't have a shy bone in my body and never met a stranger. However, I learned a long time ago that being the slightest bit pushy is not at all an effective strategy in winning hearts and minds.
