It took me months to get completely off the cigs. I was a heavy smoker, and I started with 24mg juice. That allowed me to cut down a lot, but I was still smoking.

When I got some 30mg juice, I quit that day.

I think having the right juice (a flavor you like, with the right nicotine level) is one of the most important things, and part of the learning curve. If you manage to start with juice that works, I think it's very common to quit smoking right away. If you don't, then it will take longer, partly because you have to experiment around. (And at that point, you probably don't *know* that you need to experiment.)

I think it's fine to take your time with the switch. I was told to count the cigs I didn't smoke as successes, not to look at the cigs I did smoke and count them as failures. I was told that if I just stayed with it, the switch would happen on it's own. That was good advice.

I accidently quit smoking in 7 weeks. The first four weeks I went through two starter kits that didn't work right and/or have enough power. Two big battery mods fixed that problem. It took the next three weeks and the last half carton @ 5 cigs a day to convince myself I didn't need them any more. When the carton was gone I was "donesmokin"!

Another person who quit without planning on it here. Had been wanting to quit for quite some time, last time I tried was about a year ago, which lasted a couple days. I was a two pack a day smoker, so it was very difficult to quit...the thought was terrifying!

It was a ho-hum week and I had just bought a carton of smokes the day before. Ran across a thread on e-cigs which really explained nic levels, batteries and beginner (ego) kits well, so I ordered and within a couple days it was here. Wasn't done my pack for that day, but once the ego finished charging I filled up the Protank, attached it to the ego and vaped. F yeah! I feel guilty when I hear other vapers miss smokes...because I totally don't. Not only did I hate the cig companies, I felt terrible, psychologically and physically. I feel much more "aware" of my body now that its not toxined up (though I do think I can "feel" what the nic and juice do). I've had smoking-friends stay over, smoke right in front of me and no problems at all.

I have to admit, also, that I'm not totally against some of the "uncoolness" of vaping. Whereas before, you couldn't see me go anywhere without a cig burning in hand (bored? - smoke...walking? - smoke...the usual) I don't vape in public nearly as much as I used to smoke in public. I like that. I feel like I'm able to break some of the habits I've had around smoking like that (though I still have my morning on-the-toilet vape session, and my post-dinner vape).

In the end...its getting close to three months (if not past...I didn't keep track of the date), and I still have that carton in the freezer. Been vaping 2ml of 18mg at 1.8ohm, but will soon be switching to lower nic at lower ohm.

What to do with the carton? I thought about giving it to a homeless person on the street, but what kind of message am I sending...I feel like I'd be killing them. Garbage?? I'm much to cheap for that...what a shame! Such a conundrum!

Thanks to all vapers for helping me quit, it really is beyond words how grateful I am.

GGG

At the time I started vaping, they had just doubles the price od cigarettes, and then raised the taxes on them again... Smokes were going for $50 a carton, and being a 3+ pack a day smoker that was more than I could cope with..

So I was "importing" my smokes, by the case, from Argentina when I started vaping...

I held on to the smokes I had for 6 months after my last analog, and then gave 8 cartons to a friend that was never going to quit, wouldn't even consider trying an e-cig, and whom I knew was struggling for money... Often seen digging in his ash tray for "snipes"...

That's kind of funny James, smokes are quite a bit more expensive here in Canada (also due to taxes - since our healthcare is heavily subsidized, smokers pay high cig tax as they are a higher burden on the system - my cartons were $120 and I was a two pack a day smoker) - and would actually "import" from the States when I could...didn't know Americans were "importing" from Argentina! :D

Aye! back in 2009 I was... I could import them from Argentina by the case for $7 a carton...
No tax stamp, but never had a shipment stopped in customs :D

I forget what they put on the customs claims form, but remember it was some hilarious stuff!

$120?!?!? WOW! I was going through about 3 cartons every 2 weeks... That would have been more than my mortgage!!

I quit that day. To be honest I didn't get this proud feeling of accomplishment when I stopped smoking and switched to vaping. It wasn't even the least challenging. I had smoked 1/2 - 1 pack a day for about a decade, but once I got my Puresmoker Icon (what's that?), I instantly lost the desire to smoke.

In all honesty, if it was discovered that vaping is just as harmful as smoking, I'd still prefer to vape. I find it far more pleasurable than smoking ever was. About a year after I started vaping, I was at work, and had the dreaded dead battery. I bummed a smoke, and remember sitting there choking it down and feeling cheated for having to get nic in that manner.

My wife still has a cig every once and a while if we're around a lot of people smoking. I can never wrap my head around why she would do that when she has her PV in her purse. I guess it is different for everyone though. If I could still derive any pleasure from a cig, I'd likely still smoke on occasion, the thing is that I just don't.

To be fair though, I tried a cig-a-like at first, and was back to smoking in 2 days. Then I joined this forum and was exposed to how many different devices, atties, tanks, juices, etc were out there. I think the key to quitting instantly was when I decided to say "screw it," and ordered a device that looked more like a garage door opener than a cig. What did I learn? Performance is waaay more important than what it looks like, at least in my case.

then later in your post...

This reminds me of a quote. "Quitting is easy. I've done it thousands of times".

I guess it did sound a little crazy. What I meant was I tried a Blu ecig for two days, lost my mind, went back to smoking. Two weeks later I ordered a proper device, and never smoked again. But then again, using a cig-a-like shouldn't be considered vaping (by this I mean the ones sold from the gas station, and the like).

I went from being addicted to cigarettes to being addicted to Vaping. The thing is since I am no longer addicted to smoking analogs I actually hate them now,I hate the smell, the cost, the burn holes and sometimes burned finger. I don't worry about finding a lighter or worrying about smelling like a ashtray.
If a ecig doesn't make you not want a analog then try another Nic str or flavor, when you find the right one you shouldn't have a desire to have another cigarette.
