Statement from Totally Wicked

UKV have probably thought all of this through.

1. Introduce paid advertisements
2. Encourage site supporters
3. Make vendors earning more than 50k a year pay for their own forum section on the website. All product and vendor related posts only to go into the vendors section. Vendors accept clause that they will not, at anytime press a claim
4. Strengthen the tech support the site needs with tech savvy volunteers (help Jackie out)
5. Give members more say in operational matters (like who is a mod, ECITA connections)
6. Set-up a fighting fund to prevent similar TW episodes being a threat
7. Make UKV a limited company
8. Demonstrate to vendors that the community is a whole. Any bollocks then you're out
9. Pay Jackie a retainer

I've remained quiet on this topic thus far, but the poignant fact is that any commercialisation of UKV such as you suggest is about as far from Jackie's vision of a community site as you could possibly get.

The fact that UKV has remained non-commercial isn't because of any lack of expertise (or discussion), it's because that's not what the founder wanted.

UKV's best defence is to carry on as they are, as a zero-income resource. The amount of money needed to defend civil suits is far greater than they could ever earn. Currently they earn no money and are better off staying that way.

They certainly need to be incorporated, and one of the newer formats such as CIC might be worth looking at. A CIC has limited liability as per normal, costs little to set up, and has an asset lock in case any income is generated.

that's madness. how could a forum close down, just because some merchant had a fit? not only is he insane, everyone here is. none of that makes sense. sorry.
Simply because when the big guy wields the big stick just because he can then the only thing the little guy can do is run for the hills. This has made me so angry I just wish I could use the words I would like to show my utter contempt for the big guy.

UKV is the bottom of my concern's , I never realised The extent of Jackie's Personal circumstances and that takes top priority.

I don't blame her if she had shut it down for those reasons alone regardless of any other influence.

Best wishes to Jackie , her Daughter in particular and the rest of her family dealing with something on such a scale.

oh and thank you Jackie for all the effort and work you put into UKV over the last couple of years..;)

He didn't. He just managed to be the straw that broke the camel's back.
Because of his actions, it was in the end shut down.

Så yes, yes he did.
Very much so.

This is a jävla shame and I will redirect anyone i ever see mentioning them to something more sensible place of purchase.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Cropper or his company - but knowing more of the story has changed my assessment of the situation. He is ONE of the reasons it got taken down, but not THE reason. Doesn't change the fact that he behaved deplorably and will never see dime one from me, but I can't lay all the blame for UKV at his feet.

I had only been a member of ukvapers for about 3 weeks but will be sad to see it go, hopefully if a new forum is set up TW will be excluded so this never happens again
This is not just about TW the same thing can happen again, if things are left to get out of hand, and lets not kid ourselves individuals can bring lawsuits also, their are lots of people in this world with the resources to do what TW has done.

The leason to be learnt here is knowing where to draw the line, on what is acceptable conduct on forums by its members.

After reading Jackie's statement, I realize I couldn't really be bothered with TW in a sense or the other.
It's just a company selling vaping stuff like other millions, they come and go, who cares..

But what I'd really like to say is
Thanks Jackie!
For all your time and generous effort in making ukvapers a great site and so important and useful to so many people.
I trust and hope with all my heart things will gradually get better and feel less heavy for you and your daughter.
I wish there was something me and others like me who never me you and still benefitted from your generous commitment could do to help out.

Best,
Aldo
