I use the plastic basket with all the steeping I do. I based my recommended times with it. I've steeped with and without it and did not notice much of a time difference with or without it.

Read my blog on steeping for more info and hints on UC steeping.

[h=4]Everything you wanted to know about steeping and then some.[/h]

Hi danny - I am looking to buy a better UC than the cheap one I now have. Do you have any recommendations- brand/model?

Wish I would have bought the one which Mike referenced. WARNING: I purchased the following UC and the description is false. It ONLY does 30 minutes and NOT 99 minutes and that includes this companys entire product line which is only 30 min. I purchased this one:

Amazon.com: 1/2 Gallon Digital Heated UltraSonic Cleaner Stainless Steel Ultra Sonic Gal: Health & Personal Care

BTW, love those Amazon reviews. I always prime mine with hot water first and then fire the beast up with the lid off. Depending on where the unit is located, the temp may rise slightly above 51 C but I'm not concerned.

HTH

:)

Never did get around to thanking you, Mike. You talked about the distribution of the listed power on the usc's & later showed this cleaner - just as I almost bought the wrong one! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge on these! I did follow your advice & bought this one & love it! It's so simple & the specs make me think it'll last quite a while (ooh, I hope so cause I truly couldn't afford this but went ahead cause I couldn't afford to replace several that would break. Nor could I afford to keep buying eliquid every time I didn't make some in time.) Been using it in 3 - 99 minute cycles for my all vg + nicotine + Nature's Flavors liquids & works wonders!

Talking about thanking someone - Bobalex!!! Wow, without your initiative & three threads I probably would have quit DIY by now.

Hey ChainVapitis - You know what they say ... Laziness is the Mother-in-law of Invention. Mike, Danny, and a lot of other folks around here did all the heavy lifting. As I said before ... Discoveries are made every day by responsible methodical people who plan and experiment their way towards the Eureka moment. Some discoveries are made by lazy people hooked on instant gratification. I'm solidly in the second camp.

In Other News ...

I finished another video:

If you've got a second click on over to YouTube and comment, sub, and/or like. I'm needy that way.

We now return you to our regularly scheduled programming.

Talk about Mother-In-Law of Invention... I spent days making a magnetic mixing plate - pulled my neighbors, friends, & family into it & searched ECF, ebay, youtube, & the internet in general for 2 weeks all for nothing more than some spent $ & a dust collecting gaget that doesn't do what I thought it would! By the time I saw these threads I was much more cautious & scared to try something else (my husband was sure I should stay away from the internet :) !

"Some discoveries are made by lazy people hooked on instant gratification. I'm solidly in the second camp."
Add impatient to that for me!

Gucing works! All the posts in these three threads are much appreciated!

With so manyraving about how great UC work for speed steeping ejuice I decided to go ahead and join the masses.

Kendal Commercial Grade 220 Watts 3 liters HEATED ULTRASONIC CLEANER HB23

Likely overkill for my quanities of ejuice however I am also a reloader and a UC with water and a little lemon shine is great for cleaning fired brass , hand guns and then there is always my wife's jewelry

I have been happy with it, I hope you are too. And yes, from what I understand, "reloaders" are big consumers of these units. I noticed you said "fired" brass, how is that different than regular brass like used in our Mods? Will acetic acid and water shine regular brass too?

I never saw a big difference with it.
I use a vibratory unit with cracked walnut hull for cleaning bulk brass casing and that works very well. US doesn't do much good really. Goy my vibratory unit from Midway for reasonable price

Fired brass as in was a loaded round (cartridge) which many call a bullet ,which has been fired and now has burnt powder residue and primer residue in it and becomes tarnished ,especialy if it spends days or weeks on the ground before you find it.

The water and lemon shine really does not shine its much as it cleans . Most of us reloaders who want shinney brass use a viberator type tumbler with ground waltnut hulls and a little Nu Shine or other similar polish.

As wth most things .different strokes (results) for different folks.

I have viberated really tarnished brass for 8 hours and it was much better but still looked like it neeed another 24 hours to meet my desired resukts. Alittle lemon shine in hot water .45 min. soak stirring the cases around from time totime and a hot water rinse and they look great just not polished. Place these in the viberator for one hour and they are shinner than a new penny.

So I am gonna go get the 2.5 liter one from harbor freight when I get off work. Two quick questions.

Do I leave the plastic tray on the bottom?

How many bottles can I stick in here? All my samples are in 5ml bottles, and I saw a few pics of people strapping the small bottles to one big one to keep them in place. But they only had like 5-6 of them. Could I fill the entire top of the thing up with 5ml bottles? Or would having say 20 of them in there decrease the efficiency?

Thanks!

2.5 liters is quite large. Mine is about the same size. I can easly fit 20 30ml bottles in there so you should have plenty of room for 30 - 40 bottles. I would leave the basket in there if for any thing at all it does make it run quieter. Also make sure you use leak proof bottles and fill the water to the max line. That will also help quiet it down. Also I recommend glass bottles as they don't float around. I test the bottles for leaking leaving them empty and submerging them in water for 24 hours. If there dry inside after that I use them. I also don't bundle my bottles I just put them in and let them sink to the bottom. If you get good glass bottles they won't leak. I've been doing this for the past 7 months and never had one leak.

Well I just got a shipment of plastic bottles and all 50 of my test samples are all in plastic...

I was gonna have a big glass one centered as the anchor then a bunch of the little plastics at the top lined up so the juice is under water but the caps aren't.

Will that work? Was gonna run it for 2.5-3 hours or so with heat on and off cycles?

Thanks!

That will work just fine. Run only the first cycle with heat. The ultrasonic wave action will keep the water at the right temperature for the rest of the steep. If you let it cool down by a long pause in between cycles then run heat again just to get it back up to temperature..

Just throwing this in the mix...
when I'm doing DYI experimentation, many times I have a single 5ml bottle of concoction and want to run it through the tank.
I have a couple of glasses that I use for this. One is a short whiskey glass and it's heavy for it's size. I simply put the single bottle in that and fill it with water to the same level as the tank and drop my juice bottle in there to keep in it the center of the tank where I want it.

Without trying to be pushy, here - please do a search on "mikepetro" 's input on USCs. He has experience in this field! Definitely worth your time & effort to go this route! I am so happy with this cleaner & so glad that I caught his posts right before buying a sup-par unit that would not have done the job & would not have held up to the abuse I would have given it!. Especially in my case, doing all vg, this works great! Don't mean to sound pushy, but , just know how crappy I would have felt if , after paying a similar $ amount for something of less quality or less $'s for less quality, the unit wouldn't have fit my needs ( or worse yet broken after a short time.) This is so workable & convenient! If you don't mind resetting every 8 minutes or you don't vape that much liquid in a month this may not mean much to you. I vape 10 ml / day & it has to be all vg & organic flavoring ( or I have allergic reactions ) so... This USC is phenomenal! Just thought I should let you know my experience with this.
