Steeping Times and an Ultrasonic Cleaner Part III

So for the experienced users with 4810, I learned that you switch off the heat after 10-15 min., but do you still keep the cap and tip on?

I usually fill mine with warm, but not hot water, and don't use the heater, as I find the USC energy tends to keep the water warm. I just get it warm enough so the VG will thin out, then I shake it a LOT.

If you start with cold water you can run with heat the full 30 minutes and leave it off the rest of the cycles. If you start with hot tap water no need to run the heater. Leave the bottle caps on during the entire process. If you need to breath off alcohol do it after the steeping is complete. 24 hours with the cap off should do it.

When I'm doing quarts, I will shake the snot out of it just to see the mini tornadoes it produces when it goes back in.

Its hard to tell from the picture, but do you have water in the UC tank or just the smaller bowl?

If you don't have water on the tank, then you won't get very much action in the bowl. The tank should always be full when you run it.

Also, the small bowl will tend to do a lot of dampening, decreasing action on your juice.

I should have been more clear that the bottom is cut out of the tupperware container (picture below) to allow the waves to get to the bottles. it seems to concentrate the waves more on the bottles. Yes i do fill the water up to the max line by the way.

Ah, I see clearly now. Interesting idea. What makes you feel that the waves around more concentrated using the modified bowl?

Anyone ever use 1/2 pint/jelly jar canning jars to steep large amounts? Thinking of trying this since the jars are already in my cupboard & have a few vg liquids I want to make in 100 - 150mL quantities. Would just put the jars in brown bags to keep light out after steeped.

Don't see where that would be a problem. I use a starbucks bottle which holds about 200ml and it works great doing like 120ml at a time..

I just ordered this UC off E/Bay. New 2 5L 1 2 Gallon Stainless Steel Ultrasonic Jewelry Parts Cleaner Machine | eBay I should be able to keep up with my family/friends juice supply now! I've been using a little UC that my wife had,and it works,but is extreemly small,and no heat. It does generate some heat in the water though,if I use the cover while running it. How many 30 ml bottles do you think it will hold at one time?

Assuming your 30ml bottles are ~1.5" in diameter you should be able to fit about 20-24 bottles in there.

That unit is only 50w of Ultrasonic power so dont let the 250w fool you. It basically has one 50w transducer located in the middle so you most of the ultrasonic activity will be in the center of the unit. Not a big deal but I would rotate the bottles from the outside in towards the middle about half way through.

The joy4less has a 30 min timer, heat, industral size powerful transducer, square 2.1 quart tank which distributes the waves better (No need to rotate bottles) and it's on sale $82.95 USD. I've owned this unit for 6 months and it has performed flawlessly.

If memory serves from the manual, the transducer is 70 watts. (Heater is 65 watts)
