stepping it up to a mod?

Hey there, first time poster, but I've been lurking for a few months.
I started with a standard ego 650/ce4 setup, which was fine until the battery stopped charging. I tried the center pin, ordered a new charger... nothing.
I'm on a very limited budget and only had $10 to spend last month (including shipping to Hawaii), and I also couldn't wait for fasttech because... well, you know. I need my nicotine. So I ordered a 510 battery and two cartomizers. The store accidentally sent me two batteries, which is great because the charge doesn't last very long.
The black battery with a silver super shorty carto looks sweeeet and it's a great size... but the battery life is pretty horrible. Also, it seems like it would be way cheaper in the long run to get a clearomizer like protank or evod (clones, because I'm broke) and replace the heads / rebuild them in the future.
I want something small, and maybe it's just me, but most mods look like other toys that shouldn't be in public if you know what I mean. I'm trying to avoid that look.
I know it's new, but does anyone have thoughts on the telescopic pipe mod?

You would be better off getting a JoyeTech eVic with easy head for $39.95 and don't forget to get a charging cord with it. It's a passthrough so you won't need a charger.

Also I suggest you get the JoyeTech CC because they are only $15 and last a very long time. Easy to fill and no messes.

Just my opinion but if you want to save money and have a pretty good mod for the buck, I would go that route.

Second the EGO-CC tanks and also use iClear16 and mini protank2 for ego style batteries. Not sure if they would all fit the pipe mod as you would be limited by the diameter of the sleeve.

Highly recommend the nemesis clone from FT $29.08 Nemesis Mechanical Mod - stainless steel / with telescopic 510 center pin at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping looks great in 18350 mode. Nice build quality, have given mine a hammering and it still going strong.

I use it in the short 18350 mode when I out and run the bigger 18650 battery in it around home (toy mode lol). You can see it in both styles on this page. It is slightly longer than in the pic in 18350 mode as that one has the kayfun nano tank kit and fusionmods nem-1 hybrid adaptor but still fits in the palm of hand.

Hey hey, thanks for the responses.
All of those clearomizers would work with the pipe mod, so maybe I will spend the extra few bucks and get a miniprotank. I do like cinnamon.
The problem with the other mods you mentioned is that they're taller than the closed pipe even before you put the cartomizer on. After, they're twice the size. I'm a small woman, and I want something that doesn't feel clunky and bulky in my hands.

I'm in the process of stepping up to a mod myself, watching You Tube video's and reading reviews. The one thing about a mechanical mod that has me concerned is the lack of battery regulation and safety features, the downside of a VV/VW device is that most of them are large but they do have the safety circuitry in them. I would recommend researching extensively before making the plunge. Kamry K100 or K101 is a good starting mechanical mod, they are priced pretty good (I've seen them in the low $20.00 range online) and hold up well, just make sure you invest in some good batteries

The only weak point I see with the $22.40 Pipe Style Telescopic Mechanical Mod Kit - locking ring / 2.4ohm / 1.2mL at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping is at the swivel point where the connector/ clearo joins the main battery body. My first PV was a Mech Mod and except for a simple 10 sec/ $10 repair it looks and fires as great as the day I bought it. Make absolutely sure you buy quality batteries and charger from a reputable Vendor- lottsa knockoffs floating around.

Hi, welcome to ECF.

I think what was lost in your original posting was the comment on toys ... Almost any tube style mod can be mistaken for the type of toy you are referring to. If you are trying to avoid that look completely, then I think the Pipe mod you posted would be a fair way to do it. I have not used that mod, or seen any reviews on it, so I can't attest to it's durability. It does look pretty cool, and now it's on my "maybe I want it" list, thanks ! Seriously though, if it lasts, then it will be well worth the money and will NOT be casually mistaken for "other" toys.

As for tanks, I can highly recommend the PT 2, but have not used the mini version of it myself. I would suspect that it will perform as admirably as the larger version, but that is purely a guess, not based on any real use of one. There are many folks that love them, so I don't think you can go wrong. I personally would stay away from EVODs, but that is because mine have all leaked like sieves since I got them, however, YMMV!

Yes, it would be cheaper to rebuild the heads, but ultimately you will have to decide if it is worth the time and effort vs. the $6-7 cost of 5 replacement heads. I would recommend starting with the tank and a box of 5 heads and see how long they last you. Worst case, you end up buying another box and some Kanthal and wick material ... that would give you 10-11 (including original coil) to work on rebuilding.

If you decide that a tube mod is actually okay, then I would highly recommend the eVic, but it is pricey, or the Sigelei Legend (about 1/2 the cost of the eVic). Both are, in my experience, fantastic! Something else to consider would be a "Box Mod" like the Innokin iTaste MVP. The MVP has a huge following and can be found pretty cheap. The advantage is that it has everything you need built in, no extra charger or batteries required. It is actually fairly small, I just got one and was surprised how "little" it seems to be.

A final suggestion would be somewhat of a combination of the two in the Innokin iTaste VV v3. It is long like a tube mod, but has a square shape that gives it distinction. It is probably slightly longer than your original eGo 650, has a slightly larger battery (800 mAh vs. 650 mAh), and has a pass thru mode so that you can vape while charging.

As for the DeKang juice, I would personally stay away from it. While it would be cheaper, and some folks like it, ultimately it is a Chinese product and there are no controls on what go into it. While that is true of many juices, I think you will find that either a reputable juice company (like Mt. Baker Vapor for example) will have pretty competitive pricing, nice sales (so you can stock up), and fast shipping, usually if you buy in bulk it gets even cheaper. DIY would still be cheaper, but likely not by much (although I don't DIY so can't say for sure).

So I guess the bottom line is that if you don't find any other recommendations that appeal to you, the original kit you selected SHOULD serve you well for a long time. Again, that is based PURELY on the assumption that the pipe mod withstands the test of usage.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions! I still haven't found a different mod that I think is better (for me specifically) than this weird little pipe thing, so I think I'm gonna just go for it. I'll even take pictures and write a review, cause there doesn't seem to be much of that going on with this particular model.
And good batteries. And a protank. And that's it.

no reviews on that mod cuz that one just hit fasttech in the past couple days. like someone said earlier the gripper from madvapes is a steal and almost the same concept.

i jsut realized i replied to you in another post on another thread so i'll repeat myself and say that the vape shack 808 is a good place to browse and see the crazy variety they have. of course, they are expensive compared to fasttech, but im impatient and hate waiting weeks for vapemail. haha. but, you can atleast get a good idea for what you like and then go elsewhere to purchase as well.

The problem I have with the gripper is that I want rebuildable clearomizers. Even if I don't wind up building them myself and just replace the heads, that's still way cheaper than getting a new cartomizer every week.
I'll probably check out vape shack next time I'm over on that side. It's always fun to see all the shiny little toys in person.
