OK - sorry this is so long, but wanted to give a few personal details and results that might ease your apprehension about vaping.
I don't know about any possible negative longterm effects of vaping, if there might be some discovered much later. But based on
my own experience with a couple health issues I had while smoking...there have been some
definite, proven benefits for me since I quit smoking with the help of vaping!
Smoked 1-1 1/2 packs a day for 42 years. Was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 1996, since smoking inhibits calcium absorption, especially in women. Doctor recommended I quit smoking, and I tried to, but couldn't. Was later diagnosed with mild, beginning COPD in 2005, and again, doctor recommended quitting. Tried again with several different methods, but no success. Doctor has continuously recommended I quit since then.
Decided to finally give vaping a try in Nov. 2013. I slowly cut back on the number of smokes I could have each week, while substituting vaping over the next couple months. Jan. 14, 2014 I had my last cigarette, and I'm positive I'll never have another one. I can be around smokers now and not want one; have been through some very stressful situations since then...and haven't even wanted one, etc. I've always just happily vaped instead!
My own documented
health improvements (regarding the above health issues) according to my doctor's exams and numerous test results, since quitting the smokes and vaping instead for the last 2+ years:
(1) My breathing is clear and strong now, and my little morning smoker's cough has long ago gone away. Tests have always shown no further progression of the mild COPD.
(2) My DEXA scan (bone density scan done every 2 years) from a recent test done just 2 weeks ago, shows that I
no longer have osteoporosis!
I never did have any heart problems, blood pressure problems, etc., while smoking all those years. So I was already lucky regarding those. Tests done since I quit and started vaping instead...have also always shown there have been no negative changes in either of those for the worse at all! They're both still great.
So, again...I don't know of any longterms negative effects regarding vaping, but I'm proof positive of some of the
benefits of quitting the smokes by vaping instead. My doctor knows I'm still vaping and plan to longterm. He doesn't suggest I stop it, nor warn me against it. In fact, he had given me a "high 5" when I told him in Jan 2014 that I'd quit and was vaping instead!
I've also been taking part in a 4-year 3.6 million dollar study on e-cigarette use that Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL has going on. Vaping is definitely allowed in their Tobacco Cessation Dept. building (where the study is being conducted) and 1 of the doctors even told me to go ahead and vape...even while sitting across a table/desk and talking to her about vaping! So, if a well-known, highly respected medical institution (that specializes in the treatment/study/cure of cancer)...
allows vaping inside its building, and a doctor there had
no issue with being exposed to vapor from e-cigarettes...I'm not worried about vaping at all personally.
