FYI for those planning on getting disposable cards, you might want to(although more work) look into a card that can change the number when you make a purchase. You just have to login to your bank account and request a 1-time use number. The reason is, prepaid cards sometimes have issues with online merchants due to the billing address and some online places disallow them, especially if it requires a recurring charge, or 'free-trial for 30 days' and you just have to give them a card on file.

Paypal offers this with their debit card, and I think it was citibank that also has it.

Credit cards are safer than debit cards, if it's a debit card the bank is under no obligation to refund you, I recently got my DC details stolen, I rang the bank straight away and cancelled and told them a fraudulant transaction had been made with it and they didn't want to know because their cards are "guarenteed", I was lucky as I picked up on it within 30 mins, but only because I got an email telling me I had just bought £85 worth of microsoft points!! they had got into my sons xbox live account and luckily didn't change the email addy on it till after the transaction, Microsoft investigated it and refunded my money but the bank didn't want to know:mad:

One thing that bothers me is, WalMarts and many other big box stores have these self service lanes. You use your credit card, or someone elses if you find one, and nobody even sees the card. You could get by with some pretty large purchases, with no sig required.

I know that in the self-serv lanes around here, if you use a card as "credit" an attendant has to view the card and sig before the transaction is completed. With a PIN based transaction it would go right through. If it is a stolen card, they are unlikely to have the PIN............

You may be correct. I'm anti Walmart, and the next nearest big box store that has that is 95 miles from here, so I really don't remember. However, I do know that many times I use my cc by handing it to the cashier, they don't even turn it over to look at the signature or you swipe the card yourself and sign on the screen, and they don't even ask to see your card.

Fraud runs rampant.
