Hi guys,

So I have been making my own juice for some time now and think I have a lot of knowledge and experience in doing it. I have gone from making single flavour juices to numerous flavour liquids which are balanced and well layered.

However, one thing I am really struggling with is being able to get a consistent sweetness in my juices. It seems no matter what I try, my juices are wildly inconsistent in regards to sweetness. One tank of juice can be perfectly sweet, the next can be too dull, and the next can be too sweet.

I have tried everything to remedy this. Adding the sweetener first, in the middle or last. I have tried vigorously shaking it, and not shaking it. Heating it, and not heating it. But the result is always the same.

My juices taste great in regards to flavour, but are inconsistent in sweetness.

Can anyone advice me on how to solve this?

Thanks

I was going to say shake it, but you covered that. Could it be that your taste buds vary from day to day? There are days when my "great creations in juices" are bland and flavorless. Most days they are like I remembered them. Sweet is one of the primary tastes that are detected by certain taste buds.

Just for the heck of it, try Biotine mouthwash. Get the smallest bottle. It's expensive compared to most mouthwashes but it only takes a small sip to re-hydrate your mouth and taste buds. Like the bottle says, hold and swish for at least 30 seconds, then spit.

It's not a cure all, but it helps to overcome dry mouth and I think it helps to restore taste and flavor.

9. Too much sugar is another problem affecting our taste buds and, of course, every other aspect of our health. Once again, processed food is often the culprit being full of sugar and, even worse, high fructose corn syrup. Remember that your taste buds are constantly replaced so that if you can restrict your intake of sugar for a couple of weeks, you will then notice how sweet foods taste naturally without any additional sugar. Once you are no longer overloading your taste buds and olfactory cells with sugary foods, you’ll start to notice other more subtle but equally rich tastes.

@matty007 - I'm not certain of what you're trying to achieve.

Are you saying you want each individual eliquid you make to keep its own sweetness the same from day to day? (DaveP read that you're trying to achieve this, and he made some great suggestions about that.)

Or...are you trying to get all of your eliquids to have the same sweetness as each other? (I'm reading that you're trying to achieve this. IMO, that's not possible, because the individual flavorings used in each eliquid vary in sweetness themselves, so the total sweetness will, too. Only things you might be able to do in that case are: adjust the % of any sweeteners you may use in each recipe, and/or adjust the % of any flavorings you know to be sweet on their own.)

Could try using different sweeteners or a "combination of" for different flavors. Perhaps steeping may change your sweetness sensation/perception.

This.

1. Are you saying you make the same recipe and it differs each time
or
2. You make different recipes, but you want them to have a similar sweetness profile to eachother.

If #1, mix by weight, not not with syringes. When it comes to sweetener a little can go a long way and even though it looks like .3mL in a syringe it could be considerably higher or lower.

If #1 and you do mix by weight then it could just be consistency issues with the concentrate itself.

If #2, good luck with that, as mentioned each different flavoring can have a varying degree of sweetness, for example I thought I read somewhere that Flavor West Yellow Cake is 30% Fructose (not 100% on that)

The easiest way to make a consistent mix is to either mix in larger quantities or mix by weight.

I recommend mixing by weight 110% however. It's SO much easier.
