I am going to quit cold turkey....after this pack. How many of us have used this excuse? Well I have used it more times than I care to admitt or could even count! About four years ago a family member bought and overpriced piece of crap e cig off the radio. From what I hear it was quite the dissapointment. Tasted like burning cigarette butts ect. This thing made a very bad impression. For the past 4 months I have tried convincing these guys that not all e cigarettes are like that. Two days ago I dropped off one of my 808 kits with a brand new pack of cartomizers. "Thanks but I am going to quit cold turkey". Less than 24 hours later the ecig remains untouched and it's back to smoking. Then there is the whole thing where I hear "I don't trust e cigs". Oh just typing this is making me soooo mad bah! There is also the complete distrust of products from other countries. Can folks here please give me some advice? Good products things that have a reputation for being safe? Anything you can think of would be helpful from juice, juice delivery, and the device it's self. What would be the best setup for the most paranoid potential vaper? Links backing this would be greatly appreciated.

They don't want to quit smoking. Until they want to quit smoking, nothing you say or do will make any difference.

Its either this or they are just very stubborn, and if there is anyone youll never get to change, its a stubborn old man. Heck im only 32 and im already really bad. If i dont like something, i just dont like it, very hard to change my mind even with evidence

edit: I forgot about advice! Anyways i finally got my brother to agree to try an ecig out as a solution to cutting down maybe even quitting. At first he was like ew no i would never. The trick i used was to continuously just ask him to try a puff of mine. He would say no, and i would pressure him, and he would take the one puff and tell me it was bad or he didnt feel anything etc. Now i have different models and juices to i got him more and more ok with just testing it out and trying my stuff. Over time he gradually started to say things to me like "I think im going to do what you did and get an ecig" or "I really need to save more money is that ecig cheaper i should get one(i dont tell him that im horrible and hoard juices and PVs and have spent way too much LOL)"

Anyways, i just ordered a ego c 650 for him and a few stardusts with some 24mg red full 18mg 80/20 from wordupecig (my favorite vendor) Monday! Wish him luck, and i wish you luck in your quest to help better those you want to better themselves!

I think psychology would be the first thing to try. Reverse psychology works well on my one left brain introvert horse. They are the so called stubborn horse. They are usually smart but they need time to think about things and will ignore you effectively. So basically, never mention e cig again unless you bad mouth one that disappoints ( but secretly it's a really good one) try new juices in front of this person but make zero comment on how it tastes. Leave loaded and ready vaporizer in the car while you run in on an errand and this person...he I'm sure, waits in the car. This is the least obvious way to do this and once in awhile don't do it. Or on second thought stick your head back in and grab it. If your're too obvious with reverse psychology it probably won't work. BUT I have used it when FELT it was s obvious it made me want to laugh and it's WORKED! I told a sales guy to not bother showing him an iphone because he wont like it and the second question out of his mouth was about iphone and he ended up buying it. I have a guy like that and I never push him or try to insist in ANYTHING He's a pain but there are other things so I love him. I'm going to try my tips to you on him his next break from long haul truck driving. At least my guy is curious as hell.

I have run into these types, too. There are a couple of older guys where I work who quit cigarettes (sort of) by smoking the mini cigars, which they smoke a lot less of, but they are unfiltered. I went out of town with the two of them on a project, and so I brought spares for them to try with a myriad of juices, Gandy, Dragons Fire, and Shadow from HHV and Highbrow's Cappucino and The french sounding tobacco which I cannot remember the name of cause the label has fallen off. Guess what, they would not even try them. Stunning, but I figured that there was nothing I could do for them, and just moved on. Maybe the best thing you can do is to stop bringing it up. I think that no matter what you do, they are gonna resist trying now, cause if they like it they will have to hear "I told you so". Silly as that is...

Everyone I've gotten to try it has gone over to it... some still smoke a few and others have quit smoking. The way I did it was to first hand them one I was vaping *with a spare drip tip from my pocket* and while they were vaping a liquid that tastes like a really good cigarette without any of the bad taste I began talking about how much money I was saving. Then I asked them how much they spent a month smoking and told them what that would cost vaping instead. I didn't actually do any of this to get them to start vaping though. I did it just to share my happiness. Maybe it was the vibes I was sending out. ;-)

Oh.. forgot... someone did this to me first and it got me to buy my own stuff. Also, my first experience on the draw was to cough it out and that has happened with each person I've gotten going... seems to be a common reaction but, anyway, it helps the most "dyed in the wool" Camel or Lucky Strike smokers realize this is not a device for sissies. :)

^ This. An addiction requires will power and therapy to over come. Vaping really doesn't solve the addiction problem, it's just harm reduction. Quitting a substance you have a physical dependency on is no easy task ... that is why the people here have chose to reduce the harm of smoking while maintaining their addiction to nicotine.

Granted, vaping can and HAS been a great therapy for people wanting to reduce and eventually eliminate their nicotine addiction. Slowly reducing your nicotine strength through a quick and effective delivery system such as a vaporizer, while somewhat imitating the habit forming "act" of smoking can be a priceless method to ending your nicotine dependency.

You are all making good points. This is hard because it's an immediate family member with untreated COPD. I've offered mine a few times, but nope he wont try it. After 50 years I guess he's just gonna do what he wants. It is a hard thing to watch :( I still might buy him a provari next month as a last ditch effort unless he can quit before then.

This. My kid brother wont even try one because his wife told him it might make his heart race.Presented with a viable alternative to quit smoking hes grasping at any straw he can so he can keep smoking.

Hence the ridiculous statements.

That's sad zapped. You other folks that are just saying negative this. C'mon! Better for you not to comment!

Roseb, others have given some very good advice. Don't push it. Always have a good cig-like juice on hand and say try this. Tell him he doesn't need to quit. Buy him something and say, just use it when you can't smoke! Or don't want to go out in the COLD. Make sure you have a lot of different tobacco juices.

If you just get him to start to use it. That's a HUGE step!

Hopefully, he'll at least cut way down. At least. Be patient. Don't push it.

DON'T give up as others suggested. (No offense to those that did. But I was the first one to say ecigs were a joke. Now I haven't smoked for over 2 years after smoking for almost 40)

Theres also the stubborn factor to consider.

My dad was raised in an era when meat was shipped in railroad cars with no or not very reliable refrigeration. To this day he still eats everything well done and so do both of my brothers.

Last family cookout my middle brother started trying to lecture me about how I shouldnt eat meat that isnt cooked and I busted out laughing right in his face.

Couldnt help myself, Ive worked in the restaurant business for 20 years.I think I know a thing or two about food and I'd sooner eat my boot than a well done filet.

Point is until he wants to quit or starts showing a more open mind youre just frustrating yourself. Be happy in the fact that you tried and it might work 6 months from now.

I clean a house for an older guy with COPD.

I was talkingecigs for quite awhile but he said he tried one and it was okay or he didn't like it or he really quit for 4 days when he went in for surgery. I told him it was super that he quit for 4 days but he must be missing something if he went back to it..maybe...what did he think? He said I don't know but I did quit for 4 days:) I told him that was super. He has been very stubborn but I have gently kept at him by making sure he is seeing my ecig and hearing about it whenever I see him. Those old guys can be stubborn!!!!

Over the last few months I have been whipping my e cig-a-like out of my back pocket to vape when we are hanging out when I get there in the morning to clean. Gee, does that taste good. And it is so nice to be able to vape almost anywhere, I like to say.

I have been telling I am on a website with people who switched to e cigs and a bunch of them have COPD and they feel lots better since they quit smoking.

I finally got my client I clean a house for to try it when someone gave me a whole bunch of South Beach e cig cartos, two batts and a charger.

He said he tried the e-cigs last time I was there. He says "I'm still smoking but I have been using the e cig and I can use the ecig inside the store. Hey, it's legal to vape inside the store. I haven't quit smoking but I have cut down by a quarter or more." I made sure I told him how great that was. Every cig he doesn't smoke is him improving his COPD. No pressure. Positive reinforcement only.

Let's hope he keeps trying those ecigs. I told him if he doesn't like those I have others he could try but he said "No, there's a whole bunch of those cartridges in the bag you gave me so I'll just keep using these." Okay, I'm glad you are willing to give it a try since it is so much better for you.
