I have found that the fatter the wire (the lower resistance,) the longer it takes to heat up. I don't like to go any lower on the wire than 28 because it just takes too long to heat up. I usually use 28 gauge because of that. Instead of going to a lower gauge wire, I'd keep the 28 gauge and make the wraps smaller. Try wrapping 8 wraps on something smaller.....I use a 16 gauge blunt-tip syringe needle. Maybe try a wrapping on the leg of a big paper clip or something.....

I think a toothpick is close to 2.0mm.

Off the top of my head, maybe a FAT oversize paper clip or the arms of a binder clip, the small tip from a noikia/Itaste charger.

Good luck

I just realized that your recommendation would be bigger than I am already using .055 = 1.4 mm. So bigger would be less wraps.

9/10 wraps of 28awg on 2.0mm, ~1.5Ω is my sweet spot. Easy to wrap, easy to wick and heats quickly.

It's all about finding what works for your juice and preferences.

I liked the smaller dia coils, but for me, they sucked getting the cotton right. I find the 2.0 to be a bit more forgiving.

Remember to play with coil placement. I'm low down...about a mm from the deck and "post close" to the edge.

Post close- look at the space between the tall post and the side, that little sliver of ceramic that how close to the front edge I place my coil...almost touching...

Have fun
I

The 2.0 should let you get 9/10 wraps of the twisted wire to bring you closer to .8Ω

Yeah the thicker wire will take longer to heat/cool. If you are looking to stay at your sweet spot of .8ohm, I don't think the 26awg will improve the vape. Generally when you move down into the thicker wire you would compensate the heating time by lowering the resistance, which increases the current. This changes the profile of the vape (taste is subjective so I won't touch on that) and it will be warmer.

Personally, If I wanted to vape at around:
1.5ohm I would use 30awg
.8ohm I would use 28awg
.5ohm I would use Mundys Magic (or 26, Nicrome... etc)

The way I look at it is what sort of warmth I want out of the vape determines what ohm range I'm in, then once I find that I play with which wire/coils/coil diam/placement gets me to my sweetspot. If you want a warm vape so you lower the resistance but use 30awg the flavor will burn because the wire heats to quickly. For tobacco blends I like the most warmth I can get, for Fruity juices I like them cooler.

Try different combinations, like .6ohm with 26awg, or 1.5 with 30awg, and let us know where you end up! :toast:
